Located on a hillside with a beautiful view of the valley as well as the Haleakala volcano, Bev and David provide a spacious and very private lodging that includes an outdoor patio, laundry, and an amazing hot tub. Daily we enjoyed mimosas on the outdoor patio, while looking at the surrounding beauty. and experiencing the gentle tradewinds coming off the Maui coastline. Snorkel gear, boogie boards, and beach chairs were available for our daily outings to fabulous beaches only a short drive away. We would enthusiastically recommend Maui Tradewinds to our family and friends.

The Suite (bottom level of the house) was the best furnished vrbo ever! There were tons of towels & beach towels, beach chairs, paper plates, sunscreen, cooler, books, puzzles, games, etc. Nothing was missing. The bed was super comfortable, and the hot tub was new and awesome, just a very few steps from the house. Bev provides tons of breakfast & snack food: 2 fruit bowls, nuts, granola bars, cereal, oatmeal, bread, biscotti, banana bread, almond milk, etc. Bev & David respect your privacy. Bev showed us around when we arrived, checked in once during our stay and again when we left. The inside of the suite is larger than it appears in the photos. It was very nice to have the sink and refrigerator inside. The gas stove top burners, microwave, toaster and grill are outside on the lanai. There were no bugs, so we enjoyed lots of time outside using the lounge chairs, hammock and table/chair set. There isn't a great view from the lower level as vegetation has grown up and covered the view from the hot tub; however, this makes it even more private. We were able to stay for 7 nights and celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary (a few months early). Our daughter and son-in-law honeymooned here 11 years ago. The location is perfect for anything you want to do on the island. If you're not into fake resorts with tons of people and just want to enjoy God's beautiful creation, this is the place for you.

As a group of adult couples, we were looking for a quiet relaxing stay. Our expectations were far exceeded! Dave and Bev were the most gracious hosts. A beautiful home with a breath taking view, on a quiet street (only a random bird here and there). A home fully stocked with fresh fruits, local drinks, great foods. As well as small amenities not usually thought of that make your stay so much more relaxing. We will most definitely be staying with Dave and Bev again! You should as well, you won't regret jt!!

This was our third visit, and before we left we booked again for next year. The house is perfect with so much attention to detail. The beauty, serenity and peaceful environment is only topped by the view of Haleakala. We can’t wait to return to our “home” in Haiku.

We just returned from a lovely 4 night stay at Maui Tradewinds. Bev and David are exceptional hosts - Bev is the very gracious on-site manager and guest partner, while David adeptly manages the administrative and business details. Our email exchanges with David before arriving were prompt, informative and super helpful. David was very proactive about communicating and disseminating the newest Hawaii Covid regulations and also sent detailed navigation instructions (which were spot on) as apparently, GPS is unreliable given their rural Maui upcountry location. When we arrived at Maui Tradewinds, Bev warmly welcomed us and provided a thorough introduction and walk-through of the property. The unit is the ground floor of a two-story home where Bev and David live on the 2nd floor. Our apartment was very clean, extremely well stocked with many snacks, an abundance of fresh fruit, breakfast items, coffee, juices and a reverse-osmosis water spigot for drinking water. The kitchen was supplied with everything you need to prepare breakfast, lunch or dinner, and we were provided beach towels and chairs, as well as soap, shampoo and conditioner, and a library of guide books and local resource information. The outdoor area was very private and included a sheltered hammock, dining table and chairs, lounges, Weber charcoal grill (charcoal supplied by hosts), microwave, two-burner gas stove, large hot tub and a GORGEOUS view of the valley and mountains beyond. The area was nicely landscaped with tropical plants and flowers, and the entire house was surrounded by Hawaiian jungle foliage. Also, super quiet! We especially enjoyed the sunrise, bird calls and morning light each day with our coffee. Upcountry North Maui is a very special place - rural, somewhat wild, fairly remote and not overrun with commercial tourist sites amongst manicured environments as is the south coast of Maui. But good resources are not far. Kihei is about a 35-40 minute drive away, Lahaina about 55 minutes. Walmart, Costco and Home Depot are near the airport about 25 minutes away. There is a local market in Haiku town about 5 minutes away, where you can get food, liquor and sundry supplies. Historic Paia and Makawao are about 15-20 minutes away. Life goes on at a much slower pace than the mainland. Nightlife is very limited but there are some terrific local restaurants at all price ranges, open until about 9 PM. Upcountry Maui and Maui Tradewinds are the perfect place for us as we prefer privacy, more authentic local experiences. and off-the-beaten-track locations. If you are like us, we're sure you will LOVE your stay at Maui Tradewinds.

We recently had the pleasure of staying 4 nights in the Tradewinds Suite which is basically the entire lower level of Bev and David’s beautiful home in Haiku, Maui. After a long day exploring the island, it was so nice to come back to a place that felt like home, well actually better than home, since our house does not have a sauna, hot tub, or a great view of Haleakala! Everything was just perfect, and everything you could possibly need was right there in the suite. Our wonderful hosts even had Flat Rate Priority Mail boxes in the closet along with packing tape so you could send stuff home like souvenirs, and the 5 extra shirts and the few extra pairs of long pants that you will never wear in Hawaii. If you are looking for a quiet place to kick back and relax, this is it. Do yourself a favor and skip the craziness of the resort towns and hang loose in Haiku. Even the town itself is awesome with a very nice supermarket, a few food trucks, and a handful of other shops and places to eat. If you need “big town” excitement just head about 20 minutes west on the Hana Highway to Paia. Since the house is on the east side of Paia, it was a perfect starting point for our trip to Hana. We left the house at 6:30 AM and 2 minutes later we were on the Hana Highway. The early start allowed for a very pleasant drive free from the traffic and crowds that build up later in the morning. Travel to other parts of the island was also easy because of the north central location of Haiku. Toward the end of our stay, Bev was nice enough to give us a tour of the Cottage which is just down the driveway from the main house. Equally beautiful and as well appointed as the Suite , we hope to return one day for a long relaxing stay in the Cottage.

After 18 months holed up in our house we were able to fly to Maui fully vaccinated and ready to relax. We stayed in the cottage giving us plenty of room to stretch out. It’s located at the start of the road to Hana but we mostly spent our time around the house or going to the nearby beach, upcountry Maui in Makawao, and paia. This is our 4th visit and we plan to come back again. Bev and David are terrific hosts providing everything we could need for our week stay. The kitchen had everything we needed for our meal prep. The hot tub helped relax us after the plane trip and the views and light rains of the rain forest took care of the rest. Picture below is from the back deck which faces Haleakala. This was just one of the rainbow days.

Our 2 week trip to Maui was divided among 4 towns. Haiku was the 3rd place in which we stayed. And just like a movie with a lead-up to a climax, our trip reached its pinnacle at Maui Tradewinds. Bev and David’s attention to detail, warm hospitality, and gorgeous (ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS) property will be the stuff of legend in our travel memories.

I hate crowds of tourists, so the Star Wind Cottage was a perfect escape. The Maui Tradewinds Resort is just off the Hana Highway at about milepost 14.5. Well appointed two-bedroom cottage with a sweeping view of the valley's flora and fauna. Full deck with a hot tub, full kitchen, large soaking tub and king sized beds. Owners live next door, but respect your privacy.

My husband and I stayed at the Maui Tradewinds and already can't wait to go back. The view of the lush valley is incredible, the studio we stayed in had everything we needed and more (including snorkel gear, towels, body boards) and the location was perfect to get to Paia, Makawao, and Haiku. It was truly perfect and I know we'll be back!
