The retreat is beautiful and very quiet. The room was lovely with two walls of windows; we felt like we were sleeping in a beautiful garden. The weather was not as good as the west side of the island and we found ourselves leaving the cold to go to the beaches south of Lahaina. Haiku is a very sweet little town with an amazing sushi restaurant.

Thank you for your review. Unfortunately, we are not in charge of the weather, and we are glad the island has so many weather patterns. We hope you enjoyed our waterfall and many hikes to the ocean. Thank you for supporting Regenerative Tourism and staying where the money stays with the local community. Yes, indeed, our Japanese Restaurant NUKA in the nearby area is off the chart. We love dining there too.

What a magical and spiritual, healing place to connect with mother earth ! I am so grateful for the opportunity to visit this natural sanctuary and experience the most precious wilderness and beauty in Haiku Maui. I enjoyed a full week in this paradise and the home where i rented a room was like a exquisite temple! I will be back :~)

The property itself is magnificent with green spaces, beautiful foliage, amazing hikes, waterfalls, and natural pools. The views are spectacular, especially from the temple and yoga studio. The house itself is gorgeous with lots of community space and a large well equipped kitchen that is very organized. Bedrooms are large with very comfortable beds and plenty of closet space and tables. Having stayed a couple places in Maui, this was by far our favorite, and am absolute bargain. I brought my son who lives in kaanapali and he couldn't get over how wondrous the place was.

An absolute hidden gem. If you want to experience the heart of Maui, this is your place. Off the beaten path, and entirely surrounded by beautiful nature you can find (or lose) yourself in the hidden trails that lead to little treasures throughout the land. If you are inclined to experiencing something incredible - be sure to book a farm to table meal, a healing massage, sunrise yoga overlooking the ocean, and book some time with the owners. This is an invitation to leave renewed and transformed. On the logistical side, the location is just 15 minutes from major grocery, shopping and great food (in the towns Paia and Haiku). The staff here are absolutely lovely. I can't say enough about this wonderful experience.

Please consider where you stay when you vacation and the impact it has on the earth and yourself. MAUI NEEDS YOU! What are you looking for? If you are seeking a healing journey, a deeper connection with yourself, seeking calm amongst chaos, seeking answers to deep questions within yourself, and PEACE, there is no better place than the Maui Eco Friendly retreat. Tucked away on the road to Hana, this spiritually and energetically charged retreat is a place for old souls to rest. Some of the most prolific and influential leaders and spiritual healers have credited their own healing to this divine place including Dr. John Lilly. and Ram Dass. You can peruse this gorgeous property, as there is a waterfall lagoon and a beautiful oceanfront hike. This is the perfect place to connect with nature, and the nature of yourself. Honor yourself and stay at this wonderful retreat! Keep your heart and your mind open and you will experience magic.

My friend and I stayed at this amazing location while we gigged in Maui. The facilities include a beautiful room, shared kitchen, pure spring water, ocean views, yoga room, both private and shared bathrooms and bathhouse. They are completely powered by solar with battery banks. And they have good Internet connectivity. The property has stunning hiking trails, waterfall, a very helpful volunteer staff housed in separate buildings. It is accessed via the Hana Highway, where you turn off on to partially paved and dirt roads. This part of the Hana Hwy is easy driving. The nearest town along the Hana Hwy (~35 min) with gas and stores is Paia. There are a number of beaches near Paia, but the water can be turbulent. When we arrived on Kahului, Maui, my friend and I stopped at Mana Foods in Paia and shopped for food there before continuing on to the Retreat. The shared kitchen has areas to store food in both cabinets and refrigerator. Very clean. You are responsible to cook and clean up after yourself. If you decide to go to east to Hana, it'll be about 3 hrs with stops along the way. The Hana Hwy becomes more challenging, but the journey is well worth it. If you decide to go south to the beaches near Kihei, it's about 1.2 hrs. The ocean is warmer on that side, with decent snorkeling and excellent sunbathing. My friend and I had a wonderful time at Maui Eco Retreat.

The Maui Eco Retreat is an oasis of peace, beauty and immersion in deep nature. Kutira and Raphael have created a one-of-a-kind retreat/vacation space on Maui. I honestly don’t think I could ever consider a big resort again given my experience in their upcountry lodging. The views of the ocean are magnificent! I loved staying in the Opua House and met some wonderful fellow travelers. I was initially greeted by William who made sure I had everything I needed during my stay. I also loved connecting with the interns who caretake the land. Everyone is so heart-centered and kind. You will find this sanctuary fills your soul and like me, you’ll hate to leave. I know I’ll be back! Thank you Kutira, Raphael, William and amazing interns for your friendship and kindness.

I've stayed here at least a dozen times over twenty years - there simply is no better place on the planet for a getaway, whether it's a romantic, relaxing or creative one! Kutira runs the place with Swiss efficiency combined with style, design, and incredible nature and artwork, second to none. A crew of friendly woofers help maintain the gorgeous grounds overlooking the ocean. Each accommodation is different, from comfortable rooms in the main house, to standalone themed cottages with materials imported from Thailand, Bali and beyond. A longtime Maui resident, she converted what was once jungle in the 1980s to the amazing place it is today. Ask her to watch the video! Over the years she's entertained guests from John Lilly to Ram Dass, Alex and Alison Grey and Steven Tyler, just to name drop. There is always an interesting dinner conversation for the socially inclined. Do you get that I like this place? Yes, it should be a six on the 1-5 scale. This is not your corporate commercial place, but a special off grid experience aligned with the planet. Absolutely the best!

My husband and I stayed in the Bamboo Temple at Maui Eco Retreat to celebrate our 10 year anniversary, and choosing to stay here was the best decision we made on this trip. It is unique, romantic and magical and I loved everything about it besides the fact we didn’t stay longer. It is everything the fancy Hawaiian resorts are not, which was perfect for us. It was off the beaten path, right on the Road to Hana, in a rainforest on the side of a volcano. The Bamboo temple has a huge glass wall that faces the ocean and palm trees, and we watched the sunrise from our bed every morning, as well as the moonrise every night. We saw whales and rainbows and palm trees from our front porch, and made breakfast each morning from the fresh eggs from chickens on the property! The owners were friendly and accommodating but gave us privacy as well, and we spent more time “at home” on this trip than any other trips we have ever been on because this place felt like Maui and not just some resort. The outdoor shower was amazing - taking a hot shower surrounded by bamboo while feeling the ocean breezes was really special. The property has small trails that lead directly to the ocean and we dipped in waterfalls. I would highly highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a unique and amazing experience in Maui!

Beautiful, idyllic surroundings in a retreat setting. My favorite memories there: watching sunrise from the yoga room, waterfall trails and swimming holes, chatting with other guests in the kitchen, or just sitting quietly soaking up the peaceful vibes. Really felt like we were in paradise. William is always sweet and helpful. Other residents are really nice too. We stayed there twice. We have travelled to many places over the years, and this is the only place we stayed a second time. Enough said.
