Spent Thanksgiving week here with my family and very underwhelmed overall. There are a few good employees here who share the Aloha spirit (count them on one hand) but they are sadly put at a disadvantage by their leadership. Clearly the entire island is extremely short on labor but this should not translate to a shortage on amenities by an outfit with the reputation of Westin; especially if you're not charging any less money. It got so bad, we went to other resort hotels on the island and everything seemed normal. Upon arrival, one of our rooms had been cancelled in spite of calling twice to confirm. Our rooms were never once cleaned during our entire 9 day stay. My son was kicked-out of the gym so they could clean it. If your property name contains the word "resort" I would think your bar would stay open later than 7pm. The pool bar was closed entirely and shows no sign of re-opening. Prior to arrival, a big deal was made through a series of emails about our "personal concierge" although after 9 days we never heard from ours. Instead we stood in line to engage the concierge folks directly and dealt w/ multiple people, who gave varying information. One told us to wait until we got on site before booking certain activities so as to receive special discounts, but another told us the opposite and that everything was sold out for the week. Within 30 mins after leaving the desk, I had easily booked all the activities I needed on my own online. The low point was the 3-course prix fixe Thanksgiving meal ($60pp). I intentionally booked us a 6:30p seating so we could have the entire day on the beach. I was reassured twice there would be enough food, but of course when our time came, the vegetables were gone and so was the pumpkin pie. How does a resort hotel run out of food on a pre-determined menu when they know exactly how many reservations they took? My advice to leadership...stop being so PNL driven and scale back on the number of guests you allow so the limited labor that you do have can keep up and provide a world-class experience. At one point, there were over 60 people in the lobby after 4pm check-in time who were waiting on their rooms to be cleaned (but you better be out by 10am on check-out day!) Everyone guest I spoke with was pissed-off at how bad the service was. In my nearly 30 years with Marriott, this was an all-time low.

There was lots to like, and lots of challenges with this spot - the easiest option might be a bullet points list: The Good: - We sprung for the larger room with a kitchen, not knowing what COVID protocols would be like when we booked. This was a great area, with lots of dishes, utensils, cups, etc. - even a small dishwasher. Really, really handy. - The unit had a washer and dryer - a surprise to us, but was so nice to wash a load of clothes before we decamped for the next island. - The bed was comfortable, the room itself was very nice, the patio was good sized for 4 people to eat or hang out, and the grounds were quite pretty. There was also plenty of parking. - Covid protocols were in place, nice, and enforced. Much appreciated. Though generally if you don't believe in science, you're probably not coming to Hawaii these days. The Challenges: - First and foremost, the night before we checked out, the elevator broke, and wasn't fixed by the next day. Hauling all our luggage down the flights of stairs was unpleasant (I'm in good shape - what did all the folks 20 years older than me, and more, and not able to carry multiple 40+ pound bags downstairs do?), and the worst thing was that, were I the horrified management, I would have had all hands on deck to help out with guests' baggage. This is a 3 star hotel kind of issue - really disappointing. - Our departing room charge was $70 higher than our stated quote. The claim was that they hadn't added HI state taxes. We decided not to argue, but this was really poor form. It should have been in the quote. We've been to 30 countries, and have never seen something like this - having a hotel adjust the bill upward. Again, quite disappointing. - The bathroom did not have a separate door for the toilet - just a little odd, and at times inconvenient. - The phone in the kitchen didn't work, and the safe didn't work. Overall, the couple big negatives (elevator, and the bait and switch pricing) would lead me not to recommend the hotel, knowing how many great options exist on Kaua'i.

We attempted to stay in in 4301 4302 and 4303. The mold is horrific, the carpet is mildewed the bathrooms are gross and moldy. Avoid this unit at all costs! Other reviews of the property suggest that other units might not be better. The property management only thinks they should refund about 50% of our stay despite the fact that we did NOT stay. We have multiple people feeling very sick from the mold. The fact that we are excepted to pay the “cleaning” fee for this filth is a joke!!

We debated between the Westin and the Hanalei Colony Resort, for what we need (a full service resort), so glad we booked the Westin. Room: Love our room. It's in building 4, facing the golf course with partial ocean view. Everything in the building is clean, bright, the floor near elevator was shining, clean! Our room has a small patio with table and chairs, the bed is super comfortable, bathroom was very clean. We did not ask for daily maid service, we just went to the front desk to pick up extra shampoo & conditioner, very easy. The best part of the room is the washer and dryer, very handy after each beach day to wash the cloth soaked by sea water. The hotel has a small pack of detergent and Bounce by the kitchen counter, we just got some extra laundry pods from local stores Onsite shop: There is a small cafe/gift shop next door to the NANEA restaurant, on the ground floor. They open at 6:30AM, quite convenient for early morning coffer. We also grabbed a few small items there (sun cream etc). Very friendly staff. Other facility: The tower station by the pool opens early (7AM), quite convenient for beach day. When they were closed, we were able to get fresh beach towels at the front desk, very easy There are BBQ grills scattered around the property. Chairs under the cover. The hotel was fully booked during our stay but we never felt it was crowded Sunrise: We never stayed onsite during sunset, but watched sunrise a few days. From the lobby, walk towards to the ocean, at the end, turn right toward east), there is a lawn behind the last building, perfect spot for sunrise Hanalei Overlook: 2 spots right outside the hotel, one on each side of the main highway. One with the valley/mountain view, one with mountain/ocean view. We stopped at both spots almost everyday, so beautiful! Restaurant, on site and off site NANEA Restaurant was a nice stop for lunch and dinner. We had sit down lunch one day and take out dinner another night. Outside patio setting was really nice and relaxing, if you not mind the birds, roosters and nene. They were around but never aggressive. The staff were all very friendly (and they worked hard), service was fast. Nothing stands out from the menu but it's pretty decent Offsite restaurants Overall, the options are quite limited on north shore in general. For breakfast, we found ourselves coming back to Hanalei Bread day after day (it was pretty much the only good option around) For lunch and dinner, most good restaurants require reservations for dinner. Hanalei Dolphin has a nice dinner setting, food was very good. Without reservation, Ching Young Village in Hanalei is a good place. Northside Grill takes walk in. They are on the second floor of the shopping center, open air, service was a bit slow but food was good Other: If you plan to get to Haena Park to hike the Napali trial (first 2 miles), you do need to pre-book timed entry tickets online North Shore is much less touristy than the south/east side, Westin is an amazing place on the north side. Other than cost $$$$, can not fault the hotel...

We spent the first week of October at the beautiful Westin Princeville. We had a first floor one bedroom in Building 7, and despite being at ground level, we could see the blue Pacific from our lanai. We enjoyed the smaller infinity pool between buildings six and seven. It was never crowded, and usually quiet and peaceful. We didn't try the only restaurant on site, choosing to eat out or get carry-out. We also bought groceries at Foodland. Our room was the typical Westin one bedroom, spacious and clean. The Westin beds are always comfortable. I can't give the resort five stars at this time due the lack of services, especially food. There's no reason the open air pool bar could be open. Also, as mentioned in other reviews, the geese are annoying. We didn't mind the roosters awakening us at 5:30, but the geese swarm to your lanai if your try to eat outside. We had one goose that kept knocking on our door with its bill after we went inside.
