The spacious units come with full kitchens, and the resort's ideal location provides both seclusion and easy access to local amenities and beaches. While the rooms offer comfort and breathtaking vistas, some may appear slightly dated. However, visitors consistently commend the cleanliness and maintenance of both grounds and units. You cannot beat the views off the balcony of this stay! The accommodation of our two bedroom unit was homey and well-equipped with all the kitchen utensils you would need. There is a washer/dryer, you can borrow beach chairs and snorkle gear as needed, exchange your bath and pool towels regularly too after you sit by the pool or jump into the water. Marianne who runs the spot is a dream and really made the whole experience super enjoyable too! There is no fitness center or AC (pretty standard for Hawaii though) and the price is a bit intense, but all things considered would definitely come again!

Just completed a 13 N stay at this extraordinary resort on the island of Kauai. The resort is simply a tropical paradise which overlooks the Pacific Ocean and is complete with stunning landscaping, a beautiful pool, hot tub and lounging area. The proximity to the ocean front provides a secure and seemingly secluded atmosphere and is prefect for couples as well as families. Besides bird calls, the only sound one hears is the movement of the ocean waves which ensured that our trip could not have been more relaxing. The ocean view condo we occupied was equipped with everything we required, including beach chairs, for our stay and provided ample room for 4 adults and a baby grandchild. The two bedroom and two bathroom floorplan we rented was very roomy so that we never felt cramped and that added to the relaxation we all enjoyed. We decided to cook most of our meals and we were very thankful that the kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed and in addition the condo included easy access to barbeques for grilling. This is our second stay at this resort and we are happy to say that Marianne Martin and her staff did an excellent job on both occasions in making us feel welcomed and appreciated at all times. In addition to the spectacular location of the resort nearby facilities (which are within walking distance) include excellent restaurants, shopping, outdoor activities (beaches, snorkeling and diving for example) and as a result everything you desire is easily accessible. We would certainly recommend Whalers Cove to anyone seeking a tropical holiday in the beautiful state of Hawaii. We look forward to a future trip!

Well, this might be the best place to stay on the South shore if you are looking for quiet paradise, unobstructed views of the ocean from your huge lanai, and a fantastic location that is accessible to everything. We spent a week in #125, which had a huge ocean-front lanai for eating and lounging, while watching all of the wildlife (whales, dolphins and turtles were seen from our unit). The two-bedroom layout is perfect for a family of 4, with lots of room and beautiful furnishings. The small pool and hot tub were rarely crowded, making it perfect for a feeling of seclusion and privacy. Just our style. We can't wait to go back!

Mahalo Nui Paradise Found! We are so pleased that you enjoyed condo 125! And you were here for the whales! They're only here in the winter time but we see the dolphins and turtles year-round! Thank you for mentioning seclusion in privacy, we are a very small resort and if that's what people are looking for this is the place! Best of all we love hearing that you want to come back and we can't wait to see you again! A hui hou!

We stayed at Whalers Cove Resort for 6 days. The whole experience from the staff to our condo was wonderful. Every condo has a balcony with an ocean view. We stayed at condo 136 which was perfect. It was a split level with room upstairs and the family room and kitchen downstairs. I highly recommend this condo since the ocean view from the balcony is amazing. Parking is free which is a plus. No AC but you do get the ocean breeze. House cleaning came once during our stay but if you need anything the front desk was always available. Resort was quiet and relaxing. I didn’t hear any of my neighbors on either side so sounds like the condo walls are well built. Resort is next to few shopping and dining plazas. Also if you have any kids, resort is 6 mins from Baby Beach which was nice and not busy. Definitely will stay again next time in Kauai.

We enjoyed a week stay at Whalers Cove. We have stayed at several other places in Poipu over the years (Hyatt, private house, and other condos) and we like this the best because (1) it is right on the water, (2) it is a quieter, smaller and very well-maintained complex and (3) it is within walking distance of many non-resort restaurants and shops. It isn't within walking distance to a big beach (baby beach is a short walk), but we prefer to drive to a quieter locals' beach (Salt Pond Breach is a great alternative to the busy beaches in Poipu).

I booked directly with Whalers Cover and would do that again. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Fabulous whale and dolphin watching and great sunsets from the deck. While the complex is an older one, the grounds and maintenance crew do a great job keeping it very nice and our unit was nicely (not cheaply) furnished, well maintained and entirely clean - a step up from other condo units we have seen. Having no A/C was not an issue for us. It was so cool and breezy that we ended up closing most of the windows at night. Overall a great condo experience.

We LOVED this place! Dang is it ever pricey but it delivers the goods. We stayed in #117 and I can't imagine a better location as it has incredible views, a wonderful bedroom, and living room with views of the ocean. Every element of our experience here was top notch from the wonderful reception to ample convenient parking and perfect location for exploring Poipu. I usually would grouse about the lack of A/C, but frankly I didn't feel that I needed it. Lots of fans in all the rooms and wonderful tropical breezes. Our unit was very quiet and despite people wandering by our front lawn, it felt very private. The kitchen is well appointed and I LOVED the ice maker. A bonus was easy access to Whaler's Cove, which offers the best snorkeling in all of Poipu. Lots of turtles and colorful fish!

What a fabulous place to relax ! We enjoyed ourselves so much that we have already booked for next year. Our ocean front condo was lovely and we enjoyed breakfast every morning on our porch/deck watching the whales. The condo had everything we needed and the bed sheets and towels were regularly replaced by the staff. The Whaler’s Cove staff stocked our refrigerator with food so we could enjoy our stay without immediately grocery shopping. The front desk was very helpful with great suggestions for food shopping, restaurants and tours. The condo complex is small (a real plus in our mind), a short walk or drive to great beaches, convenient BBQ’s placed around the property and a beautiful pool. We drove around the area and did not see another condo complex we liked as much as Whaler’s Cove. And an added benefit - sea turtles hang out in the cove next to the pool !

My husband and I had a most wonderous stay in Unit #123 at Whalers Cove.
The ocean view from the large lanai is impressive and continually amazes; we come from the prairies so it’s always fabulous to be near the ocean. The photos of the unit are accurate, it really is that great. The unit itself is extremely well appointed and the décor is very tasteful in it’s Hawaiian theme. The owners have created a welcoming and calm atmosphere. The condo is spacious and would be well suited to 2 couples or a family with children/teens with it’s 2 bedroom 2 ensuite configuration. We found the kitchen to be thoughtfully stocked with every cooking implement one could think of and all items in excellent condition from the sharpness of the knives to the provision of Tupperware and plastic glasses for the poolside. The pool area overlooking the ocean is quite beautiful and tranquil.
The grounds are fabulously manicured and it is a lovely oasis of calm entering the resort. Any staff we encountered were most helpful and friendly. The presence of an onsite office is most reassuring in case any questions or concerns arise.

Wonderful place to stay in the Poipu area walking distance to small but charming Baby Beach and a five minute walk to an outdoor upscale shopping center with restaurants, clothing shops, ice cream, take out food plus Longs. This side of the island is the place to stay in the winter when the more scenic north side gets the brunt of winter rains. We stayed in January and it was almost 80' and sunny almost every day.
From your ocean balcony you will see whales, dolphins and tons of sea turtles. On the left hand side of the resort parking lot there is a staircase going down to the water (for those who are sure footed) where you can jump in to snorkel out to where the sea turtles are in abundance. There are also some colorful fish as well but in small numbers.

I would go back to the Whalers Cove Resort again for sure. Great place and removed from the generic hotel sprawl that the rest of Poipu has to offer. It is out on a point and located in a very nice neighborhood so great for walking, sunsets and very quiet.

Poipu Beach (5 min drive) .. great for a beach day and to see the turtles come ashore at sunset. We counted 44 turtles one night with more on the way we were told.

Sunset Beach A fantastic hike leaves the parking lot heading along the coast, golf course and to a nice beach. Highly recommend but go early before it gets hot and wear good shoes. This beach is not safe in the winter for swimming nor at sunset when we had an encounter with some aggressive locals.

Fun take-out to bring back to eat on your lanai with your million dollar view: Bubba's Burgers (try the one with pineapple) or the Savage Shrimp (garlic shrimp over rice)

Tour to the Napali Coast: We took the 12 person boat with Makana Charters and saw a pod of dolphins with a thousand dolphins .... they were everywhere. Truly Amazing. Snorkeling is not the best but you do see some fish. Go to see the cliffs and the caves.

Kayak the Wailua River and hike to the Secret Falls (go early and bring water shoes to cross streams with) ..rent at the river from Wailua Kayak and Canoe

.

Mahalo for asking, yes it is summertime weather in August and September and you can see all of the comments about AC here. Every condo has ceiling fans in all the rooms you may want to consider booking the Alii Penthouse.
Answer from WhalersCoveGM
Poipu, Kauai, Hawaii
Now that we are re-opened many visitors are deciding to just rent a car for a couple of days and spend the rest of their time in their condo on their lanai looking out at the water. There's lots of restaurants and shopping options that are just a real quick walk from the property. However if you're interested in sightseeing and doing a lot of the hikes around the island that are just gorgeous you will need to rent a car.
