Overall this resort was a great place to stay for the conference I attended. The resort has a lot of amenities and was kid friendly without compromising on the adult only experience as well. The food and drinks were very good.
We recently stayed at the Grand Hyatt for 6 days and 5 nights on our trip to Kauai and it was one of the nicer experiences we had ever had at a hotel. First off, we typically only use the hotel during our vacation as a place to rest but this was truly a resort in which I felt we should have stayed on the property more and simply relaxed. First, a quick summary of the property: It is HUGE. We had access to the Grand Club, which we used frequently but our room was on the other side of the resort. I feel we got our 10k steps in just by going to the club a couple times a day! Valet was speedy and efficient. Check in was very pleasant and we actually arrived earlier than standard check in (4PM). We asked for both an upgrade and/or early check in. Unfortunately the hotel was booked so no upgrade and our room wasn't quite ready but they gave us a key to access the Grand Club as well as four drink vouchers to use around the pool.. Of course, we had 2 boys, so the wife and I took their drink tickets and then bought their drinks in cash separately! Once we got to our room, even though it was a standard room, it actually was quite spacious with a large bathroom and a balcony. In addition, once nice tough that I don't see often enough, especially with hotels with a nice pool or beach access - a clothes line that spanned the space above the tub so we could hang out suits to dry. Pool/beach wise, there are so many pools and access to the beach that I never felt it was too crowded. The main pool areas would be the saltwater lagoon, which is pretty large and where our boys spend the majority of there time. There's a main pool with 2 jacuzzis easily accessible. There is a lazy river, which was VERY lazy in the sense that I felt like it barely moved. A water slide, where people of all ages enjoyed it immensely. Protip - it closes at 6PM but basically between 5-6pm there is no wait. And also access to Shipwreck Beach which has a pretty strong rip tide so I would say you should be careful but it was fun for the boys to play on the beach and have the waves splash them. All the pools were also services by an excellent wait staff for both food and drinks. There are a few options to eat and drink on property and initially I didn't think we took advantage but in writing out trip review, it turns out that we pretty much tried everywhere once. At Stevenson's we were told there were known for their Martini's so the wife ordered one. I opted for a flight of whiskey. She thought the martini was decent but not spectacular. For my flight, they were out of one of the three so they gave me extra of the other two. The vibe itself was great, not too loud, and if you were fortunate, I felt like a seat on the outdoor balcony/patio would have been great. We didn't order any food but the menu certainly looked appetizing. For Tidepool, we ended up heading over and planned to order drinks at the bar and grab an open seat if one became available. It wasn't packed but there weren't any seats initially but after getting our drinks, a couple seats at the bar opened up. We then ordered another round plus a scallop appetizer, which was very tasty. I would like to add that several folks we had talked to mentioned Tidepool to eat at (both from the helicopter tour and tubing) even though they didn't know where we are staying. As mentioned, we also ate at Seaview Terrace for dinner as a family one night and to be honest, for a fancy hotel, the food was surprisingly reasonably priced and very tasty (this is part of my comment about I thought the food was comparable to Beach House but maybe a third of the cost? Granted, you don't get the selection of fresh fish but I'm talking just about how we enjoyed our food). My wife ordered the lobster roll and she really enjoyed it. And this in addition to live music, which I believe is every evening. A very nice and relaxing way to wind the day down. We did order food when we were at the pool and in addition to the standard pool type food (chicken tenders, hot dogs, etc), they also had a few choices that had the hawaiian flair. We tried both a poke bowl and the kalua nachos and both were very good. Note that we ordered food through one of the waitstaff as we reserved a bungalow for the day we spent at the pool and the service was great. I would like to mention that when we were at the pool and not at the bungalow, we received equally great service for the team in taking our orders. The day we left, because it was a noon flight and 5 hours, I was afraid the boys would get hungry so I did take them to the breakfast buffet at Ilima Terrace. I found the pricing to be very interesting as it was $41 for adults but the cost for the kids was $1/per year which meant $8 and $10 for us. I found that was incredibly flexible because buffets are typically wasted on kids. There was a huge omelet station which I found interesting as typically at buffets, there's always a huge line but when we went, I was always the first or second one in line. The buffet had a decent variety and also some interesting fresh juice combinations. There is also a Luau on site which we did not partake in that occurs I believe on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Pro-tip, it seems you can basically watch the show for free from the edge of the grass. I don't think most people would stay for the whole thing but I saw plenty of families watch for 5 or so minutes and move on. Great way to advertise! I mentioned the Grand Club and it was a very solid option, particularly for families in which the breakfast was more than acceptable and a great way to start off the day. They had afternoon snack, then a light dinner as well, followed by a dessert hour. The menu has one main item that changes daily so it does mix it up a bit. The staff was very friendly and must have consistently worked there because I saw a few times where they greeted guests from previous visits. Also, the a/c was on and a great place to cool down, although in the morning/evening, the outdoor seating was quite pleasant. All in all, would we go back? I feel like it is best summarized by the discussion my wife and I had about Kauai in general. Did we have a good time and would we go back to Kauai? And the answer is yes, it was fun and yes we would go back. However, it wasn't so exciting that we wouldn't mind visiting other places before making our way back. And the fact that we were at a VERY nice hotel had a big impact and would be a factor on if we came back or not. The Grand Hyatt was a beautiful experience in Kauai. We visited for our 10 year anniversary and they did an amazing job. The grounds were gorgeous… food was amazing… and hospitality was the highest class. Easily the best resort we have been to. 5 stars all the way!
The Grand Hyatt in Kauai is paradise. We are world travelers and have stayed at magnificent properties. What makes your property stand out, besides the beautiful surroundings and food, are the exceptional people who work there. We recently returned from our trip and must let you know how wonderful Arlyn is who works at the front desk. She is gracious and kind and treated us like family. We are so very much looking forward to coming back and Arlyn is a very big reason why.
Had a wonderful stay here. Globalist benefits include the lounge open for Breakfast, desserts and even during the day. Beautiful property and nice rooms. Staff was helpful and the pools areas are amazing. Such a big property one can get lost, but still a wonderful place in paradise. Be sure to get a reservation at Tidepools restaurant if you can.
10 days at the Grand Hyatt Kauai was spectacular from start to finish. The setting was beautiful and we slept like babies. The staff became like family and we never wanted for anything. It was hard to leave! This was for our honeymoon which had been delayed because of Covid, while it was our first visit it certainly won’t be our last!
Hyatt review I always read reviews with an open mind, however all the comments about rooms being dated are true especially if like in my case you are staying in a standard room. Nothing wrong with the room, just absolutely no aloha spirit. I could be in a Howard Johnson and not a Grand Hyatt. I checked in really late and was just too tired to deal with it and figured it will look better in the AM, after all I am in Kauai staying at the Hyatt! Unfortunately I was kept up all night by the gurgle monster in the bathroom pipes…After bringing this issue to the front desk, it was immediately rectified with a room change. Big thank you to the reception desk staff who were all very friendly and helpful, especially Coreen and Dan. I want to dispel some of the negative comments out there. Carpets in all the public areas are clean and of lovely designs. I never understand the “I have to walk bc everything is so far”. Aren’t you on vacation, what’s the rush? It may feel farther if your room is located at the far ends of the wings and you travel inside through the hallways. I suggest going outside and short cutting through the pool area and beautifully kept pathways, way more enjoyable a route. I did not witness a lot of chair vultures but the location of my room allowed me to gauge when I should get out there for a shady spot. Overall there were lots of seats and many secluded spots to be found despite it being at full capacity due to a conference. Valets and bar hood were always super friendly and funny even though we didn’t use their services and self parked. We used a lot of the amenities. Aquatics class, Lynn was fantastic. Tennis courts. Fun bike ride to Kauai Poke. Lazy river and slides, very enjoyable. Stevenson’s was really good, as was the view. Service could’ve been friendlier, off day? Will be sampling Tidepools on checkout day. Daily yummy pineapple candies, we got frowned at when attempting to take a handful. On my 2nd last day so I really don’t expect things to go down hill from here, other than I don’t qualify for a later check out then noon and would be charged a $450 for a half day stay if I want to be in a room until 6pm.…
The positive comments: Stunning water views; gorgeous, lush, meticulously maintained landscaping; attentive staff; beautifully designed pools for swimming (loved the salt water lagoon and the lazy river with the fun waterfall features, even a cave behind one of them!) Less positive (or helpful suggestions to management!): 1) Only one operational combo tennis court/pickleball court; second court was "under repair" the entire 10 days we were there with NO evidence of work being done. Third court was converted into a hydroponic garden. One tennis court for a hotel with 600 rooms is just inadequate for anyone wanting to play and not form an impatient line - also, since the courts are part of the daily resort fee, it seemed inadequate as a feature. Maybe a separate pickleball court, instead of incorporating both into one court? 2) The three hotel hot tubs were completely monopolized by very small children and their parents, meaning babies and toddlers in diapers using it as a swimming pool. NOT sanitary, and NOT healthy for small children to be in such hot water for periods of time. Very off-putting to adults wanting to use them. Hotel management needs to establish an adults-only hot tub, as they have done with the adults-only pool, with clearly indicated signs to avoid disputes (and frankly, disgust). 3) The hotel spa, while quite lovely, needs to update some of its equipment. The hotel's only lap pool is within the spa facility and lacks heating. Since it is enclosed, it gets less sun and is downright too chilly to use in comfort. Also, both of the hot tubs next to that lap pool had ailing heaters while we were there and thus the water was not very warm. …
This is my fourth stay here and I have to say that this is really one of my favourite hotels in the world. Walking into the open air foyer and just seeing that people framed view out into the ocean takes my breath away. Its a hotel that does demand some walking as its a spread out property but this doesn't fuss me, however people with mobility issues might want to be aware. The website does still say that there might be issues with not-so-regular room servicing post-Covid but I was happy with my room service bar one small issue (more in a moment). I travelled with my young adult son and it was his first stay in such a high end property and he loved it. The beds are huge, the linen beautiful and the towels fluffy. I used the spa and he the gym and both were highly rated. It was a bit disappointing to see the shorter hours for the grocery store, I suppose the is a Covid issue. We enjoyed the pool and ate in the foyer bar/ restaurant which was lovely with the beautiful view out over the water. Only a couple of small things to mention. We used up the tea bags on the first night and they weren't replaced in room service, we had to ring and ask. Paper/ plastic cups in the foyer bar for cocktails are really poor form. These are expensive drinks - $20+ and if wine and beer which are cheaper drinks get a real glass, why is it only cocktails that get the cheap drinkware? We asked our server and they said it was something to do with bar renovations and I feel that's poor form. Finally, someone on I think the floor above us had a screaming argument that went for at least an hour at about 2am one night. We couldn't have been the only ones bothered by it, the people next door must have complained, I am surprised that nothing was done, no security involved. We didn't because we kept thinking it would stop and we couldn't identify where it was, we knew it wasn't directly near us but if it was that loud and not near us, someone nearer must have said something, it went on for a long time. These are not major issues though, the only reason I mention them is that this is a high end property with high end prices so little niggles become more obvious that wouldn't be worth mentioning at a lower price point. It doesn't negate the loveliness of the place. …
been to hundreds of places, this is the best, beautiful grounds and very friendly staff, loved the freestanding porch swings, spent many hours there. loved my suite, loved having a chaise to sun on and get a tan
