We stayed in the Hibiscus Cottage and we loved it!!! EJ was so easy to work with. The cottage is adorable. Decorated in aloha style. Small kitchenette and bathroom, perfect for two people. The area around the cottage was awesome as well. Shopping and dining right down the street you could walk there. Short ride to Poipu beach to see the turtles. Baby beach is a short walk as well to hang on the beach and watch the sunset. The Cove at the end of the street is where you can snorkel and swim with turtles. Beach towels, chairs, umbrella and boogie board provided. Highly recommend this place if it is just two travelers.

My wife and I found EJ's place online. Booking was simple and straightforward and dealing with EJ was a breeze and very pleasant. Had a great time, the cottage was exactly as billed and convenient to Poipu Beach and Brennecke Beach and the town of Poipu. We even went on a hike with EJ a few days after we arrived - that was a blast. Very clean and would definitely book again.

My husband and I stayed in the Plumeria Cottage for seven nights in March of 2003. You get what you pay for in Hawaii, but our room was a bargain. This is a three-unit building in a residential neighborhood about three blocks from the beach. There is no view of the ocean, but in my opinion, views are overpriced anyway. To begin with, our unit was IMMACULATE upon arrival. All the little things were in our room, which is a nice touch: cooler, beach chairs, beach towels, kitchen amenities, bathroom towels, etc. There is a queen-sized bed, large TV, fully stocked kitchen, and nice bathroom. There is no AC, but the ceiling fans keep you pretty cool. I am picky about beds, and this bed didn't sag in the middle or bounce; it seemed to be high quality. We were close to a grocery store and good dining.
We asked for a change of towels and they were laying on our chair outside the unit when we returned from grocery shopping.
I could only think of two downsides: you share a phone with the other two units (no big deal because we had our cell phones with us) and since there is no AC, you have your windows open and hear the roosters crowing at 4 o'clock every morning.
Unlike what previous reviewers have said (see the December 2003 review), I did not find this place "shocking." The building IS "freestanding," but the three units are connected (no big deal because you can't hear the people in the next cottage anyway). There is no ocean view, but in my opinion, ocean views in Hawaii are WAY overpriced.
For this category of accommodation, it is the top of its class. If you compare it to the Hyatt or any other resort, you are missing the point--this is NOT a resort, but a cottage. I am planning on sending my parents to Hawaii on their 35th wedding anniversary, and this is where I'll be sending them!!

My husband and I stayed at the Kauai Cove Cottages during the last 3 days of our 15 day trip to Hawaii, with 8 nights on Kauai. It was perfect. The cottages are impeccable and very tastefully decorated. A short walk to two beaches and Spouting Horn.
Plan to return soon!

We loved staying in the Wild Orchid for five days on Kauai. The studio was cool, clean, private and very well equipped with a gas grill on the lanai, beach gear and even a blender in the kitchen! The stone shower in this unit is also great. Both of the other studios had guests while we were there but the only way we know this is because we saw their cars, noise was not an issue.
Baby beach is a 3 minute walk as are several great areas for snorkeling. We saw turtles and two monk seals while we were there. If you stay in this area sunset drinks at the Beach House are a must. It is great location for launching day trips to other parts of the island as well.

My husband and I stayed at Kauai Cove 4 years ago for the first part of our honeymoon. Unlike some of the other peculiar reviewers on this site, we actually read the description of the property and realized that it wasn't on the ocean, and we didn't care. It was in a lovely, quiet, residential area, with a little turtle-filled cove down the road. We had a private little patio with a BBQ and a one-room suite that had everything we needed. You have to rent a car to get around on Kauai anyhow, so we simply drove to the many, many beaches we wanted to go to.
The owners were lovely and never bothered us, and having our own kitchen and BBQ meant we didn't have to spend a fortune eating out at the overpriced restaurants on the island. The bed was comfortable and romantic (heck, we didn't need much convincing), and even though there were other people staying in the other suites, we never saw them.
If you like privacy and don't need to be around a ton of people (and if you're going to Kauai, you don't like crowds anyhow), then you'll love it here.
Highly recommended.

My husband and I were very comfortable and well satisfied during our stay in the Hibiscus Cottage. True, the cottages are all attached, but all three were occupied when we were there and we never heard a sound from any of them. We were located close to the ocean and swam with sea turtles and discovered monk seals sleeping on the beach during the day. Loved that we were close enough to all amenities to take advantage of going out to dinner or staying home and being able to cook a meal ourselves. BBQ grill was a terrific bonus and having a full sized fridge and stove was wonderful. Really great place to relax!

We had spent 12 nights on the North Shore and loved it. Frankly, we didn't want to go to Poipu! But we had 2 nights to kill at the end of the trip and opted to check out the south shore. We stayed in the Garden Suite, which was large, well priced, and the owners made an exception on the 3 night minimum. The place was fine, but the owners, wow. You just don't meet people that cool very often. Real down to earth and helpful. Our flight out was at 9pm, so we checked out at 11, and they let us put our bags inside THEIR house, and even encouraged us to feel free to use their shower after spending the day at the beach. They even made me a margarita! It made our potentially problem-laden last day an easy, relaxing time. No regrets on this one. Changed our idea of the South Shore entirely. And I see reviews here saying no view, not beachfront-- well, yeah, its not, but the beach is very close, and for the price, well worth it.

Don't stay here in October....we don't want to fight for reservations!!! The owners are the most wonderful people, and will do as much as possible to make your stay perfect! Need to relax with a massage in your room? That can be arranged. Does your family wish to send you flowers because you just got engaged? They will be in you room waiting. The rooms are beautiful and everything we imagined a hawaiian accomodation to be! Just down the residential, plumeria lined street is Our beach...ok, it's really Baby Beach, but a beautiful place to watch the sunset. We always return to this accomodation when we travel to Kauai (3 times now).

I read the first post on this cottage, and I was impressed with the feedback. I called to reserve the cottages and they seemed very friendly, web photos were ok too.My husband and I were a little shocked because these cottages are not located on the ocean, and have no views. The cottage itself was ok, but it seemed like we were back in college with the decor and size of the room. The brochure says that they are "freestanding" but it certainly looks like it's three hotel rooms in one building. If you are expecting your own separate cottage, I would look elsewhere. We called to ask for more towels and never received a call back, nor saw any attendees on the property while we stayed there. The setting was peaceful and quiet, but the amenties we were looking for in this cottage just weren't there.Staying here made us realize that if you can afford to stay at the Hyatt Regency do it! It will definitely make your vacation spectacular!

It’s on a residential street so very quiet. Just the occasional local car driving by but hardly noticed.
