Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
Marriott's Kaua'i Beach Club has received mixed reviews, with its prime beachfront location often praised by many guests. However, some travelers have voiced their dissatisfaction with the service, describing it as unkind and disorganized. The hotel's amenities and rooms also garner varied opinions; while some guests appreciate the comfort and furnishings, others are disappointed by dated aspects and noise issues.
Additionally, the value for money has been called into question, particularly concerning the expensive dining options that fail to meet expectations. Despite this, the property's cleanliness generally receives positive comments, although the pool area could benefit from improvements.

Detailed Reviews
We left Sunday on a VERY crowded plane, I think I had a better chance of getting the virus on the plane (with individuals coughing , etc) then on the beach. Food handlers were wearing gloves and constantly wiping everything. To those unfamiliar with the transfer of germs they were being educated and trying hard to adjust to new policies. I heard nurses/guests instruct management of serving coffee at the coffee bar in the morning...they seemed open to learning. Our room was clean, there was plenty of food and libations and everyone was friendly. I'd have stayed longer but was fearful of the airlines canceling all flights in the US. I would return for the sun, beach, waves, sunsets, yoga on the beach (wonderful) and Kauai safaris new Rum Safari (nice tour if you're over 21! any time. Safe travels!

If you read the rest of the reviews, you will see that the rooms are a little disappointing. They are basically regular hotel rooms with a fridge and a microwave. If you are expecting a timeshare condo room, which is what Marriott Vacation Club advertises, then you will be disappointed. Our one bedroom unit was basically two hotel rooms side by side. Just to make sure everyone is clear, there are NO cooking facilities! If you are planning on trying to save money by eating in the room, you will be limited to cereal and microwave cooking! This is balanced by the fact that you are in Lihue so there are many local inexpensive restaurants within a short driving distance. We discovered an absolute gem in Smiley's Local Grinds.
So why the 4 star review? Because it boils down to what do you want in a resort? If you want an amazing room from which you don't want to leave, do not stay here. If however, you want a fabulous beach and pool, then this is the place! The pool is absolutely huge, surpassed perhaps by only a few pools I've been to at Mexican resorts, and the beach is uncrowded, clean, rock free, protected, and absolutely stunning!
We spent five nights here followed by seven nights at a newer, more modern Marriott, the Waiohai, and at the end of the trip, we all agreed that if we ever came back to Kauai, we would rather stay here.

This hotel opened recently after being closed with Covid-19. Although many of the amenities are not available at this time, the room was very clean, and any supplies you need they bring to you immediately. The beach wasn't at all crowded so there was no worry about being close to anyone. Their restaurants aren't currently opened but both Duke's and Portofino's restaurants attached to the property are open as well as some of the restaurants across the street at Harbor Mall so their was no problem getting food. The beach is just beautiful and very much a swimming beach. This hotel also has a very large pool for those who like pools rather than beach. The location of this hotel is great for going to either end of the island. Relatively located in the middle.

We chose the Marriott Kauai Beach Club because of its supposedly spectacular pool, grounds and other touted amenities. For $500 per night, we expected all the services and amenities that come with a grand hotel. In reality, the grandness equals overcrowded and the amenities don’t exist. Admittedly, it’s not an easy adjustment from the spectacular beach backdrops of the north shore to the brutalist hotel towers of the Marriott’s Beach Club. As for service and amenities: Try calling the front desk from you room and you’ll just get a voicemail because they only have 1-2 people on staff checking people in and fielding all guests needs. The Marriott has only one open restaurant. It’s by the pool but you wanted pool side service, the answer would be no. Rather, you can stand in line to order take away. So forget about ordering your poolside mai tai as you lounge. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, except dinner is literally only one menu choice per day. The hotel recommends Duke’s next door but the wait is long and quality of the food is “airport.” Only one other restaurant is on the beach. So you’ll have to get in your car if you want any options. The main reason we came is to give our daughter a few days in a fun pool before we return to a calmer Kauai experience. If you have the same plan, note that the pool slide actually lets out into a tiny 2’ deep kiddie pool and they shut the water off the slide an hour and a half before the posted 7pm closure. The hallmark pool fountains are also shut off at 5pm for some mysterious reason. As for the interiors, one ice machine for a 7 story tall tower. Small dirty elevators. The room was fine and our oceanfront view was nice but the bathroom is so small you can hardly turn around in it and it had no ventilation fan. If we had paid half the price, the whole experience might have been more palatable, but for the price, this was a truly sad resort experience.

We are Marriott Vacation Club owners and stayed here to check it out for future reference. Imagine our surprise when our “condo” had no cooktop or stove! We had a suite of some sort which was just two adjoining hotel rooms where one was converted to include a kitchenette, table for two, and a Murphy bed. The bathrooms were so small you could hardly turn around in them. The location is convenient, but having to drag laundry several floors to coin operated machines, eating most meals out, and feeling rather cramped made us Conclude that the maximum stay we would consider here would be a day or two.

This hotel has almost everything you could ask for; great location on a swimmable beach, large pool area with cocktail service and friendly staff. One thing we did NOT ask for was to share our room with a RAT. We sprung for an ocean view room that could accommodate a party of 3 adults. Although the property is a bit dated and in need of a renovation; the room itself was updated and modern and came with a Murphy bed in the living room area for the third person: me. On our last night in Kauai I was awoken to the sound of critters crunching and munching and the scurrying of little feet. At first I thought I must be dreaming. This could not be happening in a 4 Star Marriott hotel, but the sound continued and after I gathered the courage to inspect the kitchenette area located directly adjacent to my bed, I found scattered trash and a half eaten creamer container with bite marks. Needless to say, I did not sleep that night. Up to this point in our stay the staff had been very responsive to our texts despite addressing our party by the wrong name the entire time. They did not respond to the report of a rodent in our room. We walked down to guest services and management was still slow to respond. When the manager did eventually call back she did not seem very concerned and was even argumentative, disputing the fact that they were possibly mice not rats (???). A credit of $50 was offered which does not even cover the tax for 1 night in this room which is a health hazard. Insulting. I would think twice about staying here unless you want to share your room with a rodent.

We stayed in a 2 bed/2 bath in the Nounou tower on the 3rd floor (which is the lowest floor with rooms in that tower).
I was concerned that we might have a bad view (booked partial ocean view) but we were pleasantly surprised. We had a pretty view of the garden and ocean. It was quiet and away from the pool. Room was beautifully updated and very spacious. The property itself is beautiful and well maintained. I was disappointed that there weren't more planned activities but that was it. The hotel was sold out (Thanksgiving week) and yet we never felt crowded. The pool was huge and we always got a chair. All the employees were terrific.

ALL rooms have only one layer of insulation and you can hear everything your neighbor room is saying and doing it is so loud in the early early morning. I called to ask to move rooms and they said they didn’t have any other rooms available and all the other rooms are the same. It sucks because we are woken up early in the morning and if we want to play music or make noise at night without being afraid of getting security called just because of this hotels poor insulation. Also, you can not charge things to your room, you have to pay as you go and hold your wallet around while at the pool and beach. Will not stay here again.

+1
We just finished 7 nights at this resort and loved it. I have read the recent poor reviews and could not disagree more. We booked here after covid caused cancelations at St.Kitts and Aruba and we booked through Interval International. We are Marriott owners and have stayed at other resorts in Aruba, Oahu, Maui and Kauai. I was concerned because of the mixed reviews and because of booking through Interval instead of directly through Marriott. But our experience was outstanding. I corresponded with hotel staff ahead of time providing my preferred room location and such and the room provided was an excellent ocean front 1br unit with a separate lockoff. It was very comfortable and quiet with a great bed and small kitchen that only lacked a cook top. Every staff member that we spoke with was polite and courteous and helpful. There are a handful of restaurants and an abc store within walking distance but it would still be beneficial to have a car rental if you want to see the rest of the beautiful island. We would most definitely stay here again.

Disappointed Experience at Marriott Kauai Beach Club
As a frequent visitor to the Marriott Kauai Beach Club, it pains me to say that our recent stay left much to be desired. The resort's decline in quality since the sale of over half of its property to Sonesta is evident, and it greatly impacted our overall experience.
Firstly, our disappointment with the staff was palpable. From the unkind treatment we received upon check-in to the encounter at the pool, it was evident that the standard of service had taken a hit. Upon arrival, we headed to for check-in, as directed by the lobby signage. However, the woman at the desk seemed visibly irritated . When we discovered that the check-in process was not in the same location as Sonesta Marriott, her demeanor turned sour. She directed us to the other end of the hotel, muttering negative remarks under her breath. It was disheartening to be met with such hostility, especially after a long journey.
One of the most disappointing encounters occurred at the pool, where we had a regrettable interaction with an attendant named "David." Despite the sun setting and daylight waning, David seemed more interested in maintaining a façade of nonchalance, even sporting mirrored sunglasses in the dimming light. His insistence on selling us towels and his refusal to provide one to my wife without a room key , who had just finished a long day at work, was not only disrespectful but also unnecessary. I had the key. Making her wait for 10 minutes while he attempted to confirm her entitlement to a towel was simply unacceptable. As seniors and regular patrons, we certainly did not expect to be treated as though we were intruding on the property or attempting to steal towels. His lack of respect towards an elder, "aunty," further highlighted his disregard for customer service.
Moreover, our experience at the sundries store was equally frustrating. After trekking across the expansive resort to purchase a snack, we were informed that only Sonesta guests could charge items to the room, not Marriott patrons. This policy shift left us in a bind, as we had no cash on hand and were unable to complete our purchase.
The Koi Pond feeding schedule posted on the pool is 9 AM. We waited and were told after 15 minutes that it is now scheduled for 10 and they have not changed the sign.
Overall, our recent stay at the Marriott Kauai Beach Club fell far short of the standard of hospitality and service we had come to expect. The decline in quality and the evident disregard for customer satisfaction following the partnership with Sonosta has left us questioning whether future visits to the resort will be worth it. We hope that management takes note of these issues and works towards restoring the excellence that once defined this establishment.

I am sorry I didn’t see this sooner. I didn’t see anything like a common kitchen area. It was a hotel they took over and converted part of it to “MVC.” It still feels like a hotel but with a good size fridge and microwave.
Hope this helps.
YES! There's a store and a lot of restaurants and shops.
There was a very clean barbecue area in a coutyard right outside the entrance to the elevator we used to get to our room. I had 3 barbecues I think, with a large garbage can and a picnic table
