This is a beautifully situated hotel on a harbor facing a lovely mountain chain. Grounds are lush with mature trees. The building is in good shape --- rooms are spacious and minimalist. Pool is circular and large, there's a super kiddy (Keiki) pool with a slide. This would be a terrific place to say with little ones, I imagine. I wouldn't call this a deluxe hotel -- there are no robes, for example. The problem during our stay was with the service. Hotel staff are very nice, but there just aren't enough of them. On some days housekeeping didn't make it to our room. A couple of times when we needed to phone the front desk, no one answered. Waits at the main hotel restaurant are long. This isn't just a Sonesta problem ... shortage of labor seems to be a problem in Kauai --- there are lots of signs in shop windows asking for employees. But I would say that the staff shortage is significantly more of a problem at the Royal Sonesta than at another that we stayed in during our visit to Kauai.…

Hotel's Favorite
We stayed at the Royal Sonesta but the resort property is shared with Marriott Vacation Club. The pool was massive and allowed for plenty of space for all guests. There was a separate, smaller pool with slide for the littles. We could sit at the pool and overlook the beach and ocean, while enjoying poolside service. There were plenty of chairs and umbrellas for the guests. There were also chairs on the grassy area by the beach for guests, but those had more limited availability. The room was nice and spacious with an efficient balcony with an incredible view of the pool, beach, ocean, and cliffs. The resort had multiple restaurants but there was also an area across the street with multiple options and a convenience store with alcohol, some food and snacks, souvenirs, etc next door. The hotel provided complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport, which we also used when we had a helicopter tour of the island. We were on an anniversary trip but we also saw several families, so the resort is great for both couples and families.…

Wonderful Experience! Could not say enough about the resort. We had an ocean view room with double queen beds. The rooms are spacious and clean. The view was spectacular. The entire staff at the resort is very hospitable and extremely pleasant. From valet parking, to the concierge, bar tenders and restaurant staff. We would highly recommend this place to friends family and couples. Convenient location from the airport.

This resort is top notch, between the amenities and natural beauty you can’t go wrong staying here. I would go back in a heartbeat. Great restaurants on property and amazing-kind-helpful staff. Yoga is complimentary during your stay and the pool and hot tubs are out of a magazine, so grateful to have had the opportunity to stay here.

The facilities are beautiful. Just a minute walk to the beach. Staff is courteous. It's located in Lihue which is a ver convenient and central location. I recommend a stay at Royal Sonesta. However, there are a couple of downsides to note: 1. The maid service is every other day not every day. Overflowing trashcans and wet towels does make it not a 5-star experience 2. The parking lot is far away. It's probably 0.3-0.4 miles from our room. There is a parking lot right next to our tower but it's always full. When you are paying $30/night for parking, you expect it to be easily reachable.

We love the Royal Sonesta! All the staff are friendly from front desk to bartenders to housekeeping. the grounds are beautiful and the pool is fabulous. we love that we can walk across a path to the beach, our to several smaller restaurants. From our balcony we had great views of the pool. We did this through a package, there may be a resort fee, not sure. they did have a daily parking fee of $30, a couple of night when we were out late, parking was a little harder to find.

We stayed at this property 23 years ago - it used to be a Marriott then - enjoyed it very much at that time. Visited Kauai after 23 years and coincidentally chose the same hotel and did not realize it was the same one - the name had changed to Sonesta. We stayed 4 nights and it was a comfortable stay. The restaurant did not have Hula dances as in the past but the outdoor firepits added a nice touch. The small beach in front of the hotel was good for short walks - morning and evening. Prices are high overall but if you get a good deal, a wonderful place to use as a base for Kauai. The art collection is lovely.

We spent a week playing golf and swimming at the pool and had a great time. The bell men helped my father with his mobility scooter and all the food was incredible. The star of my holiday was Gina who works at the main restaurant called kukuis during breakfast. She is a great storyteller and embodies the aloha spirit, she made is feel at home. I really hope to see her and her crew again soon.

The staff provided exceptional service. From check-in, to bar staff, to housekeeping…everyone made us feel welcome. We had a beautiful pool view room. We packed light and used the on-site laundry which was perfect! We traveled with children ages 7 and 4 and while it was our 5th time to Kauai, it was our first time as parents and we got to experience it through their eyes - truly a gift! Just can’t say enough great things about the resort. If you are on the fence about making a trip like this…it is totally worth it!

We ended up here in the middle of the night due to a flight cancellation and weren't expecting much. Pros: Free airport shuttle. Newly renovated clean room with great bed, sleeper sofa etc. that is exactly as it looks on the website. All staff were friendly, even those confronted with lots of stressed out passengers. ***Linger (late checkout) option for $150 after tax, let us stay in the room until 6 pm and then was extended to 9pm which was HUGE. Enormous pool was a bit dated but very enjoyable (felt heated but not a ton) with multiple smaller hot tubs so it wasn't hard to find an empty one. Loungers we're easily available, sun or shade or beach or lawn in front of ocean. Beach & lawn were public area but chairs for resort guests were respected. Al fresco dining options were Hawaii resort priced but lovely. Cons: Still in the process of being renovated, so the front desk was moved. The shuttle isn't on a schedule, it continually goes back & forth, so you can't be really sure when to catch it - but wait time is max maybe 20 minutes? The resort is huge so it can take a bit of time to get where you want. But it is designed so leisure travellers are pretty much in one area and ballrooms etc in a different space. This was the third beach we stayed off and had a more active flavor. People learning to surf, beach volleyball, easily accessible to "town" but didn't seem crowded. It was a very nice place to hang out and enjoy the day. We'd stay again. The pier was in view but empty which may change things. …
