Decent property. Small rooms. Needs some updating. Great ocean views. Right on beach. Get ocean front room—worth the money to hear waves. Has AC which was good. No elevators though. Could have been a bit cleaner.
Aston Islander on the Beach is the perfect spot for a Kauai vacation. It is located about halfway between the north side and the south side, so all of the sites on Kauai are a short drive away. We previously stayed in an ocean front unit, but this time, we stayed in an ocean view unit (#342), which had a gorgeous view of the pool and the ocean just behind it. There is a bike path being built that will go all the way up to Donkey Beach and right in front of Islander is the Coconut Marketplace with lots of restaurants, shops, and a small grocery store. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful.
The location was the best part of this property, lovely, right by the beach. But so many issues, from construction (we were not notified until we asked) right outside our balcony, from 7am to 4pm every day. AC not working for first 2 days, bed old/lumpy, TV small (30"), PS3 not working, remote only works directly in front of the TV, room phone did not work, AC fan pointing at table/chairs on balcony making space unusable (besides construction sounds), staff pleasant until a problem, then management became unkind and unapologetic, unwilling to offer any compensation for disruptions. The buildings are old but pretty well maintained (other than sticking doors, etc). FYI, no elevators, so 2nd/3rd floors difficult for anyone with disabilities or a stroller. We loved Kauai and the location of the hotel, but would not recommend staying here. There are so many other lovely locations throughout the Kapa'a area, as well as Poipu and Princeville areas. This location was definitely a disappointment, especially for what we paid to stay here!…
Poor quality for the price. We got our room very late. The cleaning was not very good and our toilet did not work. We asked for help and didn’t get any other help than a plunger to fix it ourselves.. not really what you dream of doing while in Hawaii!!
Room is very dingy and musty smelling. Needs a good cleaning and remodel. There is a lot of dust and dead bugs behind the couch and the headboard. Totally gross. The location and staff were great but your rooms are not accommodating in the sense of cleanliness and value. There was even construction right outside of the room which makes the price of oceanfront worthless.
I was very pleased with my stay. The view was priceless and loved the access to the beach. Having direct access to the market across the lot was very convenient as well. I will visit again in the near future.
We are nostalgic about the Aston Islander as it is where we stayed on our honeymoon years ago. We made a return visit this year and found the grounds to be as beautiful as ever. We loved the simple style of the rooms and the front desk staff was exceptional. The pool is small but clean and proximity to the beach is awesome, especially if you enjoy the sound of the ocean from your room. Unfortunately, the rooms were not immaculate. We did notice dust in a few places and crumbs under the couch. We also found that the AC units were blowing out particles into our drinks on the side table. We are not picky and we're able to overlook these things, but we may consider another accomodation for our next visit.
It's what you'd expect from a beachfront resort! Comfortable, clean, and expensive! I don't have anything to pick on except that the DVDs they rent you for free wouldn't play on the PlayStation in the room, which was the only option for playing DVDs.
Double bed on a beach front resort? Really?? I talked to a few other guests that were surprised by that. Parking lot lines are so narrow that most cars can’t fit AND open the doors. The staff is very nice but no concierge service at all.
-the room is very very humid and smells very bad, there are filled humidity sensors in closets and behind furniture. -there is mold it is extremely bad for children's respiratory system and for us too. -my daughter's bed is not made and she must sleep with us. -the pool is not secure and my daughter is 3 years old, it's not safe, it’s dangerous.
