Explore beautiful Kauai from our centrally located OCEANFRONT Hotel! Hotel Coral Reef, built in 1956, is known to be the island's original boutique hotel. Located in the historical town of Kapa'a, which features a variety of unique stores and restaurants for visitors to enjoy, Hotel Coral Reef invites you to experience our beautiful oceanfront guest rooms located 50 steps from the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean. Perched on a gorgeous coral reef area (which is great for snorkeling!) our intimate setting allows you to connect and reflect with "The Garden Islands" natural beauty. Direct access to the Ke Ala Hele Makalae ("the path that goes by the coast") allows you to bike, walk, run, or stroll the magnificent East-side coastline. Scenic vistas offer glimpses of pounding surf, spouting whales, and if you are lucky, a visit from one of Hawaii's elusive monk seals. Our King and Double Queen rooms will allow you to relax, unwind, and rejuvenate your soul.

Honestly after reading the reviews was super excited to stay here... Reality - unfortunately I’m guessing the renovations stopped at the 3rd floor. We had a room on the 2nd floor near the pool. The view was outstanding !! But Everything inside the room was out of date. The shutters don’t close well.. The tiles on the lanai were cracked, cut my foot the first day. There was a king size bed, kinda hard and uncomfortable.. maybe they need to invest in Foam mattress and think about Platforms instead of box springs. The microwave was broken — it would “hum” while plugged in. But it did work - just needed to be unplugged when not used. The ice box shelves were broken, but at least it worked. The bathroom.... ugh, the toilet was SO LOW! And the jacuzzi tub was missing knobs.the tiles had mold in the grout and being a jacuzzi the side are extremely high.. the lighting in the room - some light bulbs were out. Then there was a “light rope” type that could be adjusted- which was different.. but again some and most were not working right. That’s also the same light provided in the shower. AND to top off the list of improvements that can be done—- Housekeeping. Housekeeping was not provided daily, heck it was not even done after 3 days.. the dust buildup under the counter and near the back of the nightstand- so gross. Even the fake bamboo plant, tons of dust.

Room Tip: I’m guessing request a 3rd floor oven view because those were renovated. Don’t stay on the second...

My wife is handicapped and needs a ground floor room or an elevator. Booked a room at this hotel since it has an elevator. Good thing we called to confirm. Turned out you can't use an elevator in the garden view rooms, only in ocean view rooms. I don't understand how since AFAIK they have only one building. They also couldn't accommodate a first floor request. Seems like they were trying to force us into a more expensive room. Ended up having to cancel and book elsewhere at the last moment. If you are disabled or have a disabled relative, this is not a hotel to stay at.

We went to the Coral Reef hotel for our honey moon and we could not go to any place better... The service was incredible, clean rooms, and the “big Mama’s banana cake “ was spectacular! We felt as we were part of that family. Really kind people, if you ask for help they really take Care to help you. We will go back again! I hope soon... ;) (Free parking included)

I stayed here for 2 nights in March 2020. The room was so comfortable and nice. The location was wonderful. I would go back in a heartbeat and happily spend much longer here. The breakfast was just what I felt like - homemade banana bread and other treats, yoghurts, toast etc. There was a beautiful view to the beach. Good restaurants and supermarkets within walking distance, although it seems like most people hop in their car to go to most places on this island.

The king size bed was so comfortable that we wish we have one like that at home. Our room was very clean. Breakfast every morning was just right for our needs: toast and jam, banana bread, and granola, with orange juice.
