Okay so I am back reviewing and posting on TripAdvisor. I am unbiased and tell it like it is. Hotel Coral Reef is a 27 room hotel in the city of Kapaa, Kauai. The hotel sits centered around restaurants and shops. Hotel Coral Reef is clean, quiet (except for the roosters). The friendly staff were very comforting to any of my needs. The hotel is steps from the beach. I preferred some of the beaches north of the hotel in Hanalei or of course the Na Pali coast. Uber/Lyft are expensive and unreliable my personal experience. The island has a great bus system, only $4/ each way to/from Lihue Airport. Check bus schedules for the times and stops for exact services. The hotel also has bikes for use. A clean tropical pool with a waterfall and floral beauty as it shadows you from the sun. The rooms are spacious with excellent TV channels to watch, sorry no pay channels like HBO, MAX, Hulu,Netflix you get the picture. Wifi is free and you can even do your laundry. Washer is $2 for a load and the dryer is free. Tide powder detergent is only $1 per small box. No softener sheets or liquid. Parking is free for guests and NO RESORT FEES!!! Finally Peggy Sue makes the Best Banana Bread on the island and is a joy to speak with. Alicia and her husband are very friendly and just overall cool people. All of the information provided by me is as of March 2022 services and/or details about the property can change. Mahalo and enjoy Paradise. Happy-go-lucky traveling. Sorry I don't have any pictures but TripAdvisor should have plenty.…
I made the massive mistake of believing reviews, This hotel was hell. The bed had to be 30+ years old- we did not sleep. Saw cockroaches in the middle of the night and next day was told this was Hawaii and this was normal. This was an economy room as they were full - I tried to upgrade. We booked for 2 days but left the next morning losing our money and paid additional to change our flight to go back to Oahu. What a disappointment. Expedia, you should be ashamed for listing this property.
I'm beyond right now. My first night on a beautiful vacation is ruined by a disgusting hotel room. Just ruined. And when I called the after hours she just said "sorry we are sold out.:.I don't clean the room..." no ownership. I suggested she spend the night in one of their economy rooms. I read reviews. They were all great. How was I supposed to know I was basically getting a flop house room filled with stains and roaches. Thanks Hotel Coral Reef. I have not given a business one star in years. The state of this room and the response of the after hours line pushed me over the edge. I would prefer to sleep on the beach.
We will be back! I would give it a 10 star if I could! Our visit was to celebrate our 41st wedding anniversary and we were very happy with our room “ask for 3rd floor suite”! The staff was kind and attentive to any need we had! We rode their bikes along the ocean, visited and enjoyed delicious homemade Hawaiian Banana Bread by Grandma! Our sunsets were incredible on the beach or our balcony, our sunrises were an amazing alarm clock to us, right from our bed we were awakened each mornings sunrise with a glow over the water like firey hot lava. Super romantic being private enough to to sleep with the drapes open. We truly had a 10 star experience and are grateful to the staff! Thanks you, Candie and John
An older hotel. Quaint. Location is excellent. Rooms are clean. I love the walking path by the hotel with easy access, walkability. Staff was friendly. Loved the sunrise from the room balcony. Would stay here again
The people at the Coral Reef hotel were among the friendliest we ever met. Everything was really nice, we had an exceptional experience. We love the amenities, especially the free bicycles - and the charming cat ;-)
The hotel is dated and it’s a hotel, not a resort. The third floor is by far the best because that’s where renovations have occurred and it has the best view. While not an upscale resort, the price and location is right if you are looking for a clean place to lay your head at night and explore Kauai during the day,
This place is one step above dilapidated. The outside is horrible. There was some sort of liquid in the elevator that was there for three days. The room was furnished with early goodwill rejects. Cheap is one thing, run-down is something else.
Hotel was very nice for the price. The amenities were awesome. Checkout beach chairs, nice beach towels, and coolers for your day at the beach. Restaurants within walking distance. Checkout a bike to ride the bike trail along the coast. Friendly staff.
This is a charming family-run hotel right on the water. They have great rates and a warm welcome. If you book an ocean-front room, I'm sure the views are stunning. We booked our stay here as a place to sleep after our 12-hour flight from the East Coast (before launching into more expensive resorts elsewhere on the island), so we chose the cheapest room that overlooked the highway. We had a friendly welcome and a clean, quiet room for a reasonable price - exactly what we wanted. The next morning, we borrowed their free bikes to cruise the ocean-front bike path....a bonus, for sure! They didn't have the advertised continental breakfast (due to Covid), but my only real "beef" was that the common outdoor hallway areas could have been cleaner (smashed ketchup packs, etc. that were still there from afternoon until the next morning when we left). We would stay there again for a transitional day if should we ever return to Kauai. I would imagine that the ocean-front rooms (in a completely different building) might be well worth a longer stay.…
