Rooms are functional, clean and spacious (I’m told a remodel is underway and that will make them even better). Grounds are lovely and well-kept and a pool room is steps from the hot tub and pool. Ocean is just yards away, free yoga every morning, and the STAFF! Every single one was lovely, warm and delightful. Mahalo!

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Kauai Shores Hotel. It is a great location to use as a home base for all the exploring there is to do on Kauai.
The Coconut Marketplace was a short walk away and a and there was great selection of restaurants nearby.
The hotel was very clean and quiet and staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The room was spacious and our bed was comfy (although some thicker pillows for us side sleepers would have been great). All rooms have their own A/C unit and ceiling fan that are both remote controlled for individual preference. The west building and south side (garden view) are quiet, although the 'garden' is a thick line of trees separating the property from the neighboring condos.
We really appreciated the abundance of parking and the convenience of valet parking when we chose to use it. There a few bicycles for guest use that were in demand.
Both pools and hot tub area were well maintained and had plenty of seating. The firepits to sit around in the evening was a very nice bonus.
The beach was very nice and there was an area along the front of the hotel that was good for a swim or bobbing in the waves even in the winter. There is a nice beach, Lae Nani Beach, just a short walk around the corner with calm swimming area if travelling with small children. Make sure to bring a towel to sit on as beach loungers were in short supply. It would be a good investment for the hotel to bring in a lot more loungers, as the 10 or so provided are not nearly enough for the amount of guests staying who prefer to spend time on the beach. It was disappointing that the outdoor seating area adjacent to the beach belonged to the onsite restaurant, the Lava Lava Beach Club, and were off limits unless you choose to eat or drink there. The food there was very good ($$$) and the nightly live music, that could also be heard in the hotel common areas, was a nice addition.
Overall, we had a great stay at the Kauai Shores Hotel and we would definitely return.

Kauai Shores is a nice resort with all the typical amenities. Rooms were well kept and clean, though the musty smell of the extremely humid environment takes a little while to dissipate after turning on the AC unit (which worked great). Water pressure in the shower was phenomenal, and the rooms are well insulated, so ambient noises are minimal. The staff was efficient and friendly, and made a for a great stay. We did not try the breakfast, but did stop into the Laval Lava Beach Club for drinks and appetizers. Drinks were spot-on, and apps were typical bar fare. All-in-all, a nice stay.

Kauai Shores
This place is a total mixed bag. I chose it based, in part on reviews, and in part for its location on the ocean and pricing was relatively reasonable.

When I arrived about 4:30 pm I was told the place was totally booked up. And, from the noise coming from the onsite bar/restaurant, knew a party was in full swing. It was Super Bowl Sunday (see separate review for Lava Lava Beach Club). That, I had not taken into any sort of consideration when making my travel plans.

The first issue was my room was not what I requested. I’d booked an ocean view with a king bed. What I got was an ocean view with two queens. Not a huge deal and I knew it would be pointless to request a change. The room is basic: desk/chest with small work surface and two drawers for belongings. The desktop space is taken up with a TV and a Keurig single serve coffee maker. Surprisingly, there are no outlets anywhere near the desk for electronics.

The nightstand has another lamp and a clock with outlets and non-functional USB ports. But, at least, I could plug in my pone and laptop there. The bed was actually pretty comfortable with a firm mattress and four pillows.

The bathroom is typical thought the sink area is cramped (tuck your elbows when shaving). The shower had good water pressure and very hot water.

Housekeeping was spotty. The first morning my room was made up appropriately while I was out and about. But the second morning no additional coffee was provided – I had to go to the front desk to request a couple pods. By the third morning, again, no coffee replenishment. Nor was there any new soap (the small bar provide was all but gone). And, inexplicably, they took the box of tissues they had given me the day before. Evidently each room gets one and no more. So, the fact I had two was a no-no. Supposedly, every third night they change the bed linens – I guess, unless you’re only here for four nights then that’s a no.

While the ocean view and the sound of the waves is enticing, I’m not sure I’d stay here again. It did quiet down by the second night (the “strictly enforced quiet times” was a joke for Sunday night) so that part wasn’t bad. Still, after being spoiled on the Big Island, Kauai Shores Hotel was a big letdown.

The hotel is spread out and on the beach. The rooms are in 2 story sections that give you space between the buildings so it is an open feeling to the property. The beach is nice and sandy and the surf is not rough in the area. This is an older hotel that I remember was here 30 + years ago. It is clean and has been remodeled but I don't know when.
The room was a nice size but since this is a older hotel it doesn't have the receptacles that modern ones do. We bring an extension cord when we travel so it worked out for us.
There is a $20 resort fee that includes open unsecured internet. You don't need a code to get on. 1 bottle of water each but not each day. Beach towels that are fresh every day. A pool you can use. To me this was just another way to get $20 more out of you a day for the room.
The hotel is near the Coconut Marketplace with restaurants and shopping.
Finding the hotel can be a chore if you don't have a map or gps since it is off the main route.

This was our first trip to Kauai and it was fun! Our stay at Kauai Shore Hotel was amazing!! The restaurant on the property was a bit pricey, but everything we ate was sooo gooood!!
The scrambled eggs with pancakes and coconut syrup was our favorite breakfast to eat, we ate there every day and tried so many food. The wait staff were great, front desk staff awesome and the property is large with 2 swimming pools and jacuzzi. We had a kitchenette with a huge fridge and all the shampoos, conditioners and body wash you could use. Our trip was a week long and it was well worth it except for the constant rain every day!! The hotel was worth every penny we spent as it was on the beach!

Clean room, great location, and friendly staff. We were on a honeymoon and felt the true vacation spirit we were looking for. Highlights include their well kept beachfront property, pool lounge chairs, and tasty food from the onsite lava lava restaurant. A great overall experience. I feel as though a lot of updates have been made to the rooms. Examples include a nice Frigidaire AC split system, modern decor, and comfy bed. The hotel is located right next to other resorts and has a similar beach front vibe as the neighbors. I highly recommend Kauai Shores if you’re looking for a single room style which won’t break the bank.

The location is excellent - right next to the beach and next door to a shopping center with an ABC store (5 minute walk). Kapa'a is a short drive or bike ride away, and it's pretty much in the middle between the beaches and sites on the west side and north side of the island.

The hotel has a plantation style design and appears to have been updated in the past 5 to 8 years. We found it to be very clean and comfortable, and cute without being too "new/hipster". It's not fancy or pretentious, feels homey but still like a holiday. Our room faced the main pool/hot tub and was on the 2nd floor. Both the room with a king bed and bathroom were spacious for two people, and it was cozy sitting on the balcony. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and it was nice to have someone reach out to me by phone the day before check-in to confirm our arrival time.

There are two pools and one hot tub, both open until 10pm. We used the hot tub and swam in the pool in the evening. Both were fine and clean. The salt water pool was cold, but seems to be heated a bit as it wasn't nearly as cold as the pool where we stayed in Waikiki (well-known beachfront hotel). The beach at Kauai Shores is clean, sandy, with a few rocks, but does not have a lifeguard and waves can be rougher than in some other areas. It is good for slightly more experienced swimmers and calmer in the morning. That said, the beach in March was far less crowded than others on the island.

We didn't eat at the restaurant because the prices were a bit high. The bartenders made a delicious Mai Tai, though!

We would definitely recommend the hotel and will stay here again next time we visit Kauai.

Aloha! This was my first time in Kauai and this hotel offered amazing value for the price! This hotel is not a budget hotel or a luxury hotel, but a perfect mid-range hotel (so keep that in mind with your expectations). The staff was very friendly and welcoming! My pool view room had a modern vibe with comfortable beds, a mini fridge and an oversized balcony. Some rooms come with a microwave (my room did not). The hotel bar and restaurant offered great food and drinks with a live band. The hotel also offers on-site coin operated laundry, which I found was very helpful. The location of this hotel is literally right on the beach and provides great swimming in the ocean! In addition, the central location of this hotel is perfect for exploring the island by car and is approximately 6 miles to the LIH airport. The hotel offer 2 pools, a hot tub, free daily yoga and free bicycle rentals. I think the icing on the cake is that you can walk to the Coconut Marketplace which is located literally right next door. The Coconut Marketplace has many shops, restaurants and an ABC store (Island Country Markets) where you can buy basic grocery items to store in your hotel mini fridge. My favorite restaurant in the Coconut Marketplace was the Coconut Thai and Chinese Cuisine restaurant!! Last thing, if you're renting a car, use the hotel's complimentary valet service vs. trying to park on your own. The valet service is very helpful, especially at night when the parking spaces fill up. Mahalo!!

Lovely resort, right on the beach, situated close enough to airport but also far enough away. Has a great overall location for going back on forth on the island. Close to groceries, shopping and restaurants. Restaurant and bar at resort are wonderful! We loved the breakfast sitting along the ocean outside each morning, even a monk seal siting on the beach!

Multiple pools and a hot tub are great after a day of exploring the island. Towel service is included with stay which is an added benefit, only suggestion is that the hotel adds a towel only line for pick up (with a sign) at front desk -like a towel only express line, as it takes awhile to get new towels if you have to wait behind numerous other guests checking in. Once I was soaked and had left huge puddles all over the lobby floor by the time I was able to get towels.

We enjoyed the music/speakers by the pool. Live music nightly is also wonderful as is the morning yoga by the beach. Loved that all rooms had a nice patio or balcony.
Was a nice priced, older hotel that recently got a face lift.
Parking could be challenging-luckily valet is also available. Couldn’t have asked for a better hotel within that price range. We’d choose to stay here again if we are lucky enough to find ourselves back in Kauai!
