My fiance grew up in Hawaii, so we decided to get married on the islands at Hanalei Colony Resort, and I'm so glad we did! It helped keep our ceremony small, personal, and less stressful. I was still stressed, planning a wedding in Kauai from my home in Chicago, but Lehua made it so much easier. She coordinated everything from HCR, helping me find the right vendors, and making herself available to me when I would get worried or anxious over things. She even helped getting my appointment for the marriage license the morning of the wedding! With her being a local and knowing so many people in the community, she was was a godsend. I appreciate her help using her connections to make my day as perfect as possible. I wanted simple and easy so I could just enjoy my time on Hawaii with our families. Lehua made sure that happened. I couldn't imagine what my day would have been without her. She's family now. She also took great care of our us, our family and friends. My mother and aunt arrived a few days before we did and they were blow away by how helpful Lehua and the whole HCR team was. They joked they were moving in permanently. While they did not happen, we will definitely return for a family vacation, possibly for our wedding anniversary. She also made me a small bouquet, as I hadn't originally planned on having any flowers for the wedding. Thanks again to Lehua and everyone at Hanalei Colony Resort who made my wedding day the best it could possibly be!…
This hotel is very comfortable and easy to stay at. The location is amazing and we really appreciated the complementary shuttle to local beaches. Rooms come with basic amenities and a good selection of cooking equipment. The resident outdoor cats are super friendly and we really loved our stay. We're looking forward to returning one day!
Had a great stay at HCR with my wife for our honeymoon. It was an awesome getaway in a uncrowded area. The HCR itself is a little dated, but the vibes are perfect for Hanalei. What really made the trip special was the staff. Chawake and Sierra both patiently talked with us and gave activity recommendations in the area. We only were able to stay for 2 nights, but we made the most of our time in Hanalei thanks to the great tips they gave. Super grateful to Sierra and Chawake. Mahalo mahalo mahalo!
The property is gorgeous; well maintained, very convenient for beach, pool, bbque and other amenities. All staff was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Our condo was nicely appointed, the kitchen was well equipped, and attention to detail on "little extras" was appreciated. We'll definitely come back! Mahalo ~
We had a fantastic stay at the HCR last week—it was hard to leave, and we’ll definitely go back. The condo was clean, comfortable, well furnished and so peaceful. No A/C but you truly don’t need it with the constant sea breeze. No TV, which was also nice. It was a great place to venture from (esp. with the free shuttle service to great local beaches, hikes and town) but it was also just a great place to be—great views from our “premium ocean view” unit, steps to the beach, and a short walk to the pool and hot tub (a nice plus after a long hike to the falls). It’s easy to see why people return—the only thing we would do differently would be a longer stay, esp. flying from the east coast.
My family (with 2 teenagers and MIL) visited the property in mid-April. We had two separate condos with one being upgraded to beachfront, which we made our base of operations. There is no A/C but with the ocean breezes, there is no need. Unfortunately, we came at a bad time because it rained every day with very strong winds so we were kind of stuck. The property, which I would not call a resort, seems to be condos that are rented out (we saw one for sale for $1,000,000) so not all are exactly alike. There are no walls to the bedrooms, which we didn't mind but the bathrooms and kitchens, while clean and well-stocked, seemed to be from the 80s and showing wear and tear. With Covid, there was no service during our stay so it felt very much like we were in an apartment. We were taking out our own garbage, changing out our own towels, going grocery shopping, and cooking in the kitchen. The property was nice but nothing spectacular. They just completed a pool complex, which was very nice and we did swim there a few times. The beach is just a sliver with lots of driftwood and rocks. Of course, the mountains, oceans, and vegetation all around were lovely to look at. The one restaurant seemed to be just starting up again and was closed two of the nights we were there and only opened at 5 pm so no breakfast or lunch. There was a bar inside but that was the only one, so again, limited (and the Mai Thais were hit or miss). Need a tiki bar somewhere on the property open all day :-) The best part for me was the coffee house that opened at 7 am where I got great coffee and a muffin one morning. The coffee house employees were great. ALL the staff was very nice but we just didn't see them. A bulb burst the first night, which we reported but was never fixed and a toilet was plugged and fixed but not cleaned. Not the end of the world but just made us feel like we were on our own. The property is located over an hour's drive from the airport, pretty much at the end of the sole, two-lane road leading around the island. You pass by Hanalei "city", which is a bunch of restaurants and tee-shirt and surf shops. Food was good, tee shirts were cool and the shaved ice was to die for but lots and lots of tourists. We didn't know if a cruise ship parked nearby one of the days. The drive was difficult with lots of twists and turns and tight areas. We were so far to one end of the island, that we couldn't really do anything. Along the route, there were pull-offs to access beaches, which would have been great in better weather. I would suggest staying closer to the airport and taking a day to check out the area. You don't need to be in the Hanalei region for more than a day unless you want to be alone for a while, which some people do. I'm sure if the weather was better, our experience may have been a little better but it just wasn't exactly for us. Peace and Love.…
We had an absolutely amazing experience here. The ocean front room was spacious with all the amenities you could need. The staff was friendly and full of recommendations. Here’s a pro tip! Leave the slider door. The ocean breeze and waves sound. What else can you ask for!
This resort was perfect for us. Its location is absolutely beautiful. The rooms are well used, but they were clean and have all you need (beach chairs, cooking supplies, etc. The views were stunning. We stayed in J4. You are so close to Hanalei, Haena and Tunnels and Lumahai beach. Simply walking on the beach in front of the property is beautiful. The staff was wonderful as well. Shawna, Lei, Chawake and Sierra were particularly helpful. The pool is nice as well and there was rarely anyone else there besides my wife and I. It is near the road but there really isn't much traffic near this resort. We would stay here again!
Our room was right on the ocean, a walk of 10 feet to sand. Panoramic view of the bay was incredible. The staff - Chawake, Lei, Joe, Sierra, Isaac, Will, and Debbie were all great and made us feel comfortable and welcome.
Views are a+.. none better. But be warned, this resort is not on a swimming hmm... rough water, rocks. Same prices but no cleaning service. Don't get that. And 2 of the front desk women did not follow through on two requests... one was for a 15.mim late check out. Told twice, "I'll get back to you"..hm.. People above were craze noisy so we had hoped we could move or they might suggest people don't stomp around at 5. A.m.... empathy wasn't front desk strong point.. Bed , couch, Little things were terrible. Pillows were great. Grounds were also gorgeous. Pool is kind of removed so we didn't use it. No services... bie breakfast, lunch etc.. Def. Take in food. Older woman at front was awesome.
