We could not have imagined just how breathtaking, beautiful, and peaceful Orchid Beach Cottage #3 would be. It was a perfect setting for our honeymoon set on the shores of the gorgeous North Shore with crystal clear waters abounding. Neatly furnished both in the interior and exterior, the sounds and smell of the ocean breeze, the waves crashing footsteps away,... More

How lucky we were to experience this perfect slice of paradise by the sea for 14 nights! We just loved our stay at beautiful Orchid Beach Cottage no. 3 with magnificent sea views and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this cottage to anyone. Location – 10 out of 10: Hale Makai is located in fairly remote Ha’ena and therefore it is... More

My wife does the arrangements and scored unit #2, which is ocean front with a great deck and view. The 2 bedroom unit is very modern and spacious with high quality tiles and furnishings. Having no AC is nice since you mostly don't need it but would have run it 12/7 which means you constantly have to acclimate. The reef... More

We just stayed in Cottage 1. How anyone can write a negative review is beyond me. First impression, gorgeous location and we walked into a beautiful clean unit. The location is fantastic. Tranquil, quiet views abound. The beach 20 feet from the cottage has great snorkeling and you can walk about 1/4 mile to tunnels beach. Beautiful sandy beaches stretch... More

After our last stay at the Westin on Maui, my husband and I thought it would be good to rent a place with a kitchen so that we could make breakfast, etc. for our son, and have more of a "home" feel. We booked Cottage #1 at Hale Makai for 6/25-7/3. We almost left on 6/25, 6/29 (booked Sheraton in... More

We are disappointed to hear you did not enjoy your time at Hale Makai Cottages. We truly pride ourselves on offering a location that honors the natural vibe of the island and is not a large resort, but is fully equipped for a pleasant and relaxing Hawaiian Vacation. We realize this may not be the ideal for everyone and it... More

This place is the perfect combination of resort and private home! The grounds were so private and well maintained, you won't have random people walking through to get to the beach! No detail was left undone in the interiors. We stayed in #2 for our honeymoon the first week of November and we couldn't have been happier, 8 days just... More

For our first trip to Kaua'i (after repeat visits to O'ahu and Maui over many years), I wanted to choose a hideaway cottage where we could feel the beauty and power of the island's nature with five senses. I was also looking for the comfort of high standard in which we would happily wake up to a fresh morning, enjoy... More

I stayed at Cottage #5 with my husband, daughter and mother last week (August). The cottage is located at the back of the property, but the beach is easily accessible. It's outfitted with everything you need in the kitchen and has plenty of towels, nice linens, and some water stuff left from other people (and we left a mask!). My... More

Stayed in the Summer of 2014. Fantastic, well appointed cottages offering privacy and romantic settings among lush greenery right on the beachfront. The beach has amazingly soft white sand and is virtually deserted, perfect for sunbathing. But it got a bit rocky for us about 15 feet into the water, so we also drove around to try out some other... We stayed at Hale Makai three times before he new owners took over. They made many improvements, upgrading the bathrooms and kitchens beautifully and replanting the garden with native pants - it is very beautiful. HOWEVER, they seem to think that because they furnished the cottages with high end appliances, travertine flooring and luxury bathroom fixtures they can provide little... More
