Three of us came over from Maui for a business trip. Joe was fantastic! Very accommodating and welcoming! The view and from the Mahina Kai is gorgeous. The outdoor showers, sounds of birds in the morning, ocean as you're falling asleep all make for a perfect Kauai experience. The location is great. Close to Kapaa which has tasty little restaurants... More

If you are looking for somewhere to stay just a little off the beaten path, centrally located between the North and South sides of Kauai, an almost private beach facing due east (so you can watch the moon rise) and let the sound of the surf lull you to sleep, a salt water (soft water) pool that refreshes your skin... We arrived at Mahina Kai B&B just after completing the Kalalau NaPali Coast Trail (3 days of camping) and this property, the Bamboo Cottage, Joe and Mini felt like heaven!! The property is gorgeous and in a quiet neighbourhood (not far from our favourite Kealia Beach). We did not see the other suites but I have no doubt that are... More

Mahina Kai and the island of Kauai was the highlight of our trip! From the moment we wandered up the driveway to check-in, and were greeted by the owner Joe, we knew our stay was going to be wonderful, and it was! We stayed in the Bamboo Suite, a freestanding unit with a beautiful Japanese feel, a somewhat indoorish/outdoorish shower... More

Tucked into 2 lush and flower filled acres overlooking the ocean, the rustic elegance of this one of a kind B&B is surpassed only by the charm and hospitality of it's owner Joe. If you are looking for nightlife, don't come to Kauai. If you want to relax & enjoy the beauty of this island, stay here. It's perfectly situated... More

From the moment we arrived the owner Joe treated us like old friends. We got upgraded to the cottage which was stunning. Every morning breakfast was already prepared in the atrium were we met other guests. Breakfast was freshly prepared fruit, boiled eggs, muffins and coffee. We had travelled from Glasgow to San Francisco then Maui so Joe realized we... More

The whole property was beautiful, but what made it truly special was the owner Joe's attention to detail and friendliness. We felt like we really made a friend who cared about us and our vacation. Fresh fruit, fresh baked muffins, and coffee in the beautiful breakfast area each morning. The pool was particularly beautiful and relaxing, especially at night as... More

First, Joe is the best host in the world. Imagine a dear friend inviting you to spend the weekend at his home and just chilling out with no obligation to socialize. That's Mahina Kai. I felt guilty asking for anything, because he went way beyond what you would ever expect. For instance, we asked to borrow some windex so we... More

What can I say? This place is simply wonderful. Joe was born to own a B&B and couldn't be a better host. The home is large and spacious, and the accommodations are splendid. You have plenty of space to do your thing, but all the social aspects of a B&B are right there. Great pool and hot tub, a short... More

This is our second stay at the Mahina Kai B and B. We first came here in 2009 and hoped to return some day to the beautiful Island of Kauai. The Mahina Kai resort is a special oasis of coconut palms, a beautiful swimming pool and hot tub, and tropical flowers mixed in with the charm and southern hospitality of... More
