I am giving this an average review because there were both good and bad aspects. The main issue with this resort is that it needs to decide if it is a 55+ resort or a family friendly resort. I think they want to attract families to fill their 3 bedroom condos but the atmosphere is not family friendly at all. Kids were not allowed to bring any toys in the pool; but older adults were allowed to use pool noodles. No outside drinks or food permitted at the pool including coffee cups. The pool could be described as a "No Fun Zone." Our kids got yelled at several times by older adults (60+) staying at the resort. One morning my sister had her one year old outside on the grass at 7:40 (20 mins before quiet time officially ended) and her and her husband got yelled at the lady upstairs, in fact she told my brother-in-law to go back to his country because he had a European accent. My mom spent a ton of money renting three of their condos for our family to be there for two weeks and we enjoyed the location and the restaurant and the amenities but not the atmosphere. To be clear we were not a party group and were regularly in bed before 9 PM. On a side note my husband did get bitten by a centipede in our bed. If you are in a ground floor unit I would suggest not relying on screens to keep bugs out. This is especially an issue right after they do heavy watering as we all found centipedes the next day.

We recently stayed at Hali’i Kai for 2 weeks and it was wonderful as usual. All of the units in which we’ve stayed have been excellent. The grounds are immaculately maintained, and the views are outstanding. We’ve stayed in other complexes within WBR, but Hali’i Kai is head and shoulders above the rest. It is gated and is always quiet, making it a nice escape. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to couples, adult singles or groups of adults who aren’t there to party. When reading previous reviews, a pattern emerges of parents resentful of staff asking their children to behave at the pool. In the many weeks of stays at Hali’i Kai over the past several years, I have not once witnessed children being unfairly treated or harassed by staff. On a couple of occasions, I saw children that were asked politely not to jump into the pool and splash other guests, and not to chase each other around the pool. One look at the Ocean Club will tell you it isn’t ideal for children that want to play. In particular, it is not well-suited to families where parents want to drink and socialize and use the pool as a babysitter. I suspect it is those people that complain about being harassed, but they need to understand others don’t appreciate their children being left to entertain themselves The pool staff are likely taking action because of complaints made by other guests using the pool area, not because they love to harass kids.

I love Hali'kai. We stayed in 15F this time, one of the 2-story 3 bdrm/3bath oceanfront units. Beds were firm. Unit was super clean. Kitchen well stocked. Good supply of beach gear, with chairs, umbrellas, and sand toys. View was phenomenal. Humpback whales and plenty of boats, canoes, etc to watch. This was my 4th stay at this complex. I love the Ocean Club. The prices are reasonable. The saltwater pool is lovely. Happy hour is daily! The views are just the best. Tennis court, putting green, basketball court. The complex is next to one of the Waikoloa golf courses, and that gives it a bit of openness and privacy separate from the rest of the Waikoloa area. Easy walkability to Queens and Kings shops (Starbucks). I was initially concerned about staying in an 'inside unit' with people on both sides, but there were not issues. No sounds from other units bothered us. You do have to pay $20 daily resort fee. Note each unit can be managed by different rental companies; Kona Vacations was great to work with. I will stay at Halikai again.

Room Tip: Ocean view is critical. I've stayed in 7D, 15A, 15F, and 10E. I'd recommend any of them,...

Excellent property, gave location but would not say family friendly. Lots of rules around pool which would be hard for kids ( to balls, jumping splashing). Great for couples. Lots of room with 2 and 3 bedrooms and great space. Our only issue was the office closes at 6pm which we did not know ( now on website). Emailed instructions but from another email from the ones I had received and thought it was junk. Said would fix that issue. Other than that loved it.

Spouse and I spent 3 nights at Hali'i Kai 6c, located directly across from the tennis courts and putting green. Unit has two bedrooms, 2 full baths. King bed in master and twins in second bedroom. Appliances are new, including stacked washer/dryer. Kitchen is fully stocked with plenty of spices and coffee. Unit also has closet full of beach stuff, from Tommy Bahama chairs & umbrella, cooler, snorkel gear, boogie boards, and more. Unit is on first floor with view of golf course. The Hali'i Kai complex is one of many gated townhouse communities in Waikoloa Village. Definitely need a car as nothing is in walking distance, including the pool and bar. Many reviewers have complained about the $20 resort fee imposed when you check in at the office just inside the gate. If you don't want to use the pool or bar, skip the check in at the Hali'i Kai office and save the daily fee. Otherwise, you'll need to pay the fee for access cards to those amenities. Overall a good place for couples but wouldn't recommend for families. The Waikoloa Village, not just Hali'i Kai, has a quiet, retiree vibe. Great location amidst several golf courses and public beaches.
