Cons: I had terrible experience at reception during check-in. I felt we were mis-treated because we are Asians/ Chinese. As a Marriott Platinum member, I politely asked for an upgrade that is part of the loyalty program; I showed several reviews where under same circumstances, a white person is upgraded (eg. review blog from PointsGuy); the person at the reception was trying to argue with me, while his arguments contradict his own words. For example, they told me the suite I was asking for potential upgrade is purchased by someone so no one can get in (I mean, I can still book it online at the moment). He said the review I showed was because they did not have the room the guest booked, and said I did not read carefully. I politely asked him to tell me where it is in the article but he wasn’t able to find the place. One other reception person rolled her eyes at me. I asked to see the general manager / manager but they rejected my requests. I believe the problem is not a problem about the upgrade (although how they neglect loyalty members is another problem), but rather how we were treated without respect. I certainly haven’t had anything like this at a hotel; being treated equally and politely is never something as a guest we should be wishing for, and obviously not for someone stayed at this hotel chain for 50+ nights a year. (Plus: I am also Diamond for Hilton, so it’s 100+ per year and first time I got to have an argument even at check in). Pros: Room is modern; shower is good. Room is large and has good view. Staff at breakfast are friendly. Cc: I am not a super picky person; this is the first time I rated a hotel below 3 stars on any platform.

After 5 years we finally returned to the Waikoloa Beach Marriott and were once again very pleased with our stay. The resort has been updated with a great eye for details in the design and layout! Our favorites included: 1-An amazing massage with Laurance at the Mandara Spa*! 2-The breakfast buffet the Hawaiian omelet is amazing!* 3-Hydro-Bike rental in the bay--amazing how well it works, a total blast! 4-Deli counter at the Queen's Court grocery store We will be back! *Tip- During our trip, we received a small Bonvoy member discount here. loving the new Bonvoy program!

Our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids, 4 and 9) recently returned from our vacation on the big island. Its a beautiful hotel, beautiful grounds and pool and of course the million dollar views of the pacific. Our room (2 bedroom suite) was large, clean and fantastic. We stayed here after staying a few days at the Fairmont Orchid and man it was a total letdown. I booked a larger 2 bedroom suite and unbeknownst to me it was part of their " marriott vacation club" which means apparently that they treat you like a nameless faceless renter. We checked in at 3pm and were told we couldn't check in until 4pm (Seriously... they made us wait an hour). Front desk was all business and no alohas, no lei/necklace when we arrived either (unlike the fairmont), no one to help us find our room (and it took us 30min to find it), and bellboy dropped our luggage at the door...didn't even bring it into the room. Checkout was at 10am (NO exceptions, no late checkout if you're staying at an MVC room) so we had a really hurried checkout on our last day. Our room was $600+/night so i kinda hoped for a little more "hey we're so happy you're here" vibes. SO apart from the frosty welcome and checkout, the rest of the staff at the hotel and our stay was good. ANd perhaps the experience would've been better if we stayed at the "hotel" instead of the "MVC" The pool and beach was a lot of fun for the kids, but not enough shade or lounge chairs for the grownups. We did not eat onsite as the food looked meh, and much better options within walking distance (lava lava beach club, Roys, Fosters Kitchen). If I were to return to this island, i would hands down return to the Fairmont Orchid.. and I'm marriott gold member.

I spent six days recently at this lovely resort. Very friendly and engaging staff. Beautiful grounds and expensive but delicious food. Beautiful pools (four) and a lovely beach. It was peaceful and relaxing. I recommend their spa where I had a great relaxing massage. They also had a lobster special for $30 and it was the best 1.5 pound lobster I’ve eaten in a long long time. Also try their banana split which was out of this world. Rooms are a good size for two people and each room has a lovely balcony where I sat every morning and had my first cup of tea.
