Very friendly reception and good location. The cottage was very nice for our family but needed several housekeeping fixes. The TV did not work, the carpet was very worn and needed to be replaced, we had no sponge to wash dishes, the hand soap was too watered down, and the freezer needed cleaning. These were all minor in the whole scheme of things since we did not travel to the Volcanoes National Park to watch television or spend much time in the room. Breakfast in the morning was delicious with fresh papaya and 4 types of freshly baked breads. For the price, we had a good stay.

Arrived for a three night stay, was greeted by a very friendly manager who showed us the room options available onsite and on their second property, we chose the later property, as the rooms had a wonderfull corner windows overlooking the gardens. Room had everything we needed, fridge, microwave, TV, Netflix, wifi etc. Had a wonderful stay here. Only slightly downside is the we had to do a couple of minutes drive to the main property for breakfast. The breakfast is a set option, that would possibly not appeal to everyone, however I found it very enjoyable. If back in the region would stay here again.

Volcano Inn is nest on the edge of the native fern forest by the volcano park. My wife and I stayed at the corner window suite, it has large windows looking to the forest. We both loved it. The room is very clean and there is no traffic noise. The air is fresh and the temperature is cool, nice get away from the hot dry Kona side of the island. Due to the higher elevation and forests around, it can get chilly in the early morning and at night. We also loved the daily healthy breakfast of fresh banana bread and Hawaiian papaya boats with yogurt, bananas and macadamia nuts. It's also a great location if you are planning to visit the volcano park. It's less than 10 minutes drive away. Volcano town is small, there are only two convenient stores around. So best take a trip to a supermarket or Walmart in Kona or Hilo for whatever you need before coming.

After touring the Volcanoes National Park nearby for 8 hours, including 9 miles of hiking and such beautiful scenery-- we really enjoyed and appreciated the quiet and beauty of the Volcano Inn. Our room on the 2nd floor was right in the trees-- with a corner room we shared with numerous birds. They stayed pretty noisy throughout the night, but we were worn out and it didn't really matter. We passed on the comfortable-looking hot tub stationed in a forest of beauty, and found the morning breakfast of Papaya and Yogurt to be delicious. Banana bread too! This is a terrific way to stay locally without having to drive back to the east side of the island-- allowing us a full opportunity to explore this fascinating region.

We were only supposed to stay here for four nights but after one night on the Kona side, we decided decided we preferred this side of the Big Island. The vibe on the Hilo side is much more laid back, chill, and, for us, there's so much more to see and do. Ulisses went out of his way to accommodate us and him and his wife, Izabella, prepared, not one, but three papaya boats to welcome us back! We love everything about this B&B! The rooms are nice, clean, cozy, and comfortable. Free breakfast of papaya boats and to die for banana bread with coffee, tea, and orange juice every morning (coffee and tea available 24/7) in the common room. And the rainforest view from the rooms are so relaxing. But the best part is the husband and wife team that run the place. Ulisses and Izabella are a gem! They greet and chat with every guest that come for breakfast every morning. And they're super accommodating. You will leave feeling like you're leaving good friends behind. We've found our home away from home at Volcano Inn and we can't wait to go back! Thank you, Ulisses, Izabella, and Melissa for making our vacation extra special!
