Hale Ohu
We stayed here from April 27-30
This is quite possibly an actual paradise located in the small volcano village, it’s a 10 minute drive from the Volcano National park. We stayed in the bamboo room. The room is immaculate, has everything you may need. There were detailed check in instructions before arrival. Nicole greeted us with a huge smile and answered our questions patiently.
She gave us several recommendations on the park and things to do. The room is within a rainforest and is immersed in nature. Parking spots on premises. We heard lovely Hawaiian honeycreepers during day and the frogs at night which was amazing.
The room has a breakfast nook, coffee, tea, kettle, fridge, microwave. They even have robes and shoe cleaners! There’s a hair dryer. Bathroom is spacious and well stocked, with an amazing shower. Every little thing has been thought of. Umbrellas outside to use, dehumidifier in the room. Other amenities are WiFi, smart TV, heater, heated bed.
Highly recommend this heavenly rainforest “house of the mist”. We will definitely return and stay here when we are back in the area.

As far as B&Bs go, this establishment truly shines. I cannot speak highly enough about the cleanliness and attention to detail. In this time of COVID-19, Hale ‘Ohu goes above and beyond to make its guests feel safe and ensure as healthy an environment as possible. The location is prime real estate for visit the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. This bed and breakfast is situated in an amazing rainforest garden. The grounds are meticulously manicured with an array of beautiful flowers, plants, trees and birds. Our room featured a private patio overlooking the main garden. The room was well appointed with a luxurious walk-in shower being one of the highlights. The room was extremely clean and tastefully decorated. The owners were thoughtful in providing many special touches such as umbrellas and a shoe cleaning kit. The breakfast was also outstanding each day serving a variety of choices from frittatas and fresh fruit to homemade breads and juice. The location can’t be beat, just minutes from Volcanoes National Park and close to multiple restaurants. The owners are extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful with providing information on everything in the area. We highly recommend this bed and breakfast!

We very much enjoyed our stay! We had a great time on the Big Island, and this location was perfect, close to the Volcanos Park. The room was very modern and spacious. The property has a beautiful walking path with a garden. We liked that the breakfast was ready to prepare from the mini fridge each morning. The owners were very helpful and welcoming. We definitely will be back!

The Bed and Breakfast is located very close to the entrance to Volcano National Park and the town of Volcano. The garden setting is unbelievably beautiful and tranquil--anthuriums, ferns, bird of paradise, and other tropical flowers surround the unit. The inn-keepers are good communicators, they provide everything you might need (even a bottle of wine from the local vineyard), and they are accessible, warm and friendly. After we checked out they even allowed us to store our luggage while we went hiking at the National Park. The breakfast was very good, the heater worked well, and we were very satisfied with all aspects of the experience. Highly recommended!

Great BnB. Our room was charming and overlooked the beautiful and quiet tropical garden. The room was clean comfortable and our hosts made sure that it had all the comfort of a 5 star hotel: robes, blankets to sit under the COVERED patio, coffee makers, fridge/freezer, microwave, new bathroom with big shower with nice toiletries, daily room freshening, umbrellas, dining table, etc. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Used the leftover for lunch. We would stay here again in a blink. Excellent value

We took my visiting mother-in-law over to see the volcano, staying two nights at Hale 'Ohu. Gabrielle and Nicole were very helpful when I booked the wrong dates and had to adjust at the last minute. A different and delicious breakfast was delivered to our rooms every afternoon...to be heated up in the in room microwave. There was also a refrigerator and coffee maker, which made things feel homey.
Each room has a deck with a view of their amazing tropical garden, including the largest Birds of Paradise I have ever scene. The grounds include a 10 minute rainforest walk, with ferns and flowers everywhere. And it was just 5-10 minutes from Volcano National Park and even less to nearby restaurants. Our only regret is that, due to the pandemic, we did not get to spend time with Gabrielle and Nicole. We will be sending future visitors back to Hale 'Ohu.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this place. Beautiful location, super clean, friendly owners. I loved the fact that our breakfast was waiting in our mini-fridge so we could eat on our time schedule. We are early risers and this was very convenient for us. Just outside Volcano National Park. I highly recommend this bed and breakfast if you are visiting that area.

The bed and breakfast is in a beautiful location, in the rainforest, set back a few hundred feet from the main road. It is very well maintained and very tidy. My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon in September 2021 and we loved it. We were always excited when we came back each afternoon to investigate the breakfast waiting for us in the refrigerator. They have a very charming breakfast nook with the necessities like a microwave, electric kettle, coffee maker, and refrigerator. They also have a quaint little sitting area in front of the room for relaxing in the fresh air and some leisure reading, or enjoying an afternoon beer after a day of exploring Volcanoes National Park. They also give you a binder of information in the room that has everything in it from airline phone numbers to local attractions and food trucks. We will absolutely stay here again when we are back on Hawaii. We also loved falling asleep to the rainforest sounds each night.

We had a terrific 2-night stay. This is a great property! The B&B is located outside of town on several acres of tropical gardens, both planted and wild. We stayed in the "Wild Ginger" room, which was had every thing we needed, including a charming patio with a view of the spectacular grounds. We enjoyed hearing the birds and frogs calling. The suite was spotless with a very comfortable bed and beautiful bathroom. The furnishings and bedding/towels looked brand new. A delicious breakfast was provided in our fridge in advance, which we liked, because we left at dawn each. morning to catch the clear morning skies (clouds and rain roll in very early), and it was nice to eat breakfast on our schedule. The suite had a cute "kitchen space" with coffee/tea, microwave, toaster and tiny fridge/freezer combo. In the morning, we made coffee and heated up the homemade breads, and egg dishes stored in individual serving bowls (delicious egg dishes). We also had a variety of tropical fruit. The grounds are beautiful and we enjoyed the walking the jungle trail on the property. The hosts (twin sisters) were very friendly and helpful regarding Volcano National Park info and restaurant recommendations, etc. I highly recommend this B&B.

Mahalo, Polly! We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay in the Red Ginger room and appreciated what we have created here to enhance the guest experience. It may feel like we are set outside of town, but actually we are centrally located in Volcano Village close to restaurants and the national park. Luckily our expansive grounds, just off the main road and highway, provides a secluded feel. We hope your travels bring you back to Volcano and that we can host you again.

Aloha! We provide daily housekeeping, so clean dishes will be provided each day. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Mahalo!
We pride ourselves on providing our guests with five-star service including super clean rooms. Please take a moment and search "clean" in the guest reviews. We use the triple sheet method (fitted sheet, flat sheet, comforter and top sheet), so duvet covers are not used. The fitted and flat sheets are white while the top sheet is white with a green design as you can see in the room photos. Lastly, we do offer late-check-in (instructions provided when late check-in is requested), but we encourage guests to arrive between 3 and 6 p.m. to get a personal greeting.
Staying three nights ensures you will get a chance to see a lot of this part of the island. Besides a host of sights in the national park, Volcano is a great location to explore South Point, Hilo and Pahoa from. Guests often enjoy returning to Volcano's cooler climate after a day of exploring. Plus, spending more time in Volcano means you don't need to rush. We often hear from guests that booked one or two nights that they wish they had stayed longer.
There are no laundry facilities at the property, but there is a laundromat in Volcano Village.
