Hale ‘Ohu Bed & Breakfast is a boutique, adults-only property set on five-acres with botanical gardens and a tropical rainforest. We are located in the quaint hamlet of Volcano Village nestled next to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Our three rooms are modern with all the conveniences and comforts travelers expect. Each room has a private entrance, spa-inspired en-suite bathroom, Breakfast Nook with mini-fridge, coffee maker and microwave; patio with garden views and a SMART-TV with Netflix access. Rate includes a generous and healthy continental breakfast, daily housekeeping, high-speed Wi-Fi and parking. Hale 'Ohu (ha-lay oh-who) means the House in the Mist. We are situated at a 4,000-foot elevation and enjoy cooler weather even on days with clear blue skies. In the afternoon, mist often rolls in from the slopes of Mauna Loa. We are a legally permitted B&B by the County of Hawai'i.

Our recent stay at Hale 'Ohu was very enjoyable. The grounds are very beautiful, so take time to enjoy the rainforest setting. It is a very quiet and peaceful location. We didn't hear anything during our stay other than some rain on the roof. Nicole was a very welcoming host who provided a lot of useful local information. The location is very close to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park which made it really convenient for us to get to the park for an early morning, pre-sunset hike to view the volcano and return to the B&B for breakfast before going back to the park for more hiking. The breakfast provided was excellent. This is an excellent choice for a place to stay in Volcano.

We stayed in the Bamboo Room! It’s simple yet luxurious. The breakfast was delicious and easy to serve. The nook had everything you would need plus wine glasses and bottle opener. (The office has wine for purchase!) When you step outside , the beautiful gardens surround you. Chairs are available so you can sit and enjoy. Blankets are thoughtfully provided, in case of cold. The Guest Services binder has information on anything you could think of asking from B&B , safety & surrounding area questions. The owners were very friendly but not intrusive. We will be returning for a longer stay!

My husband and I got to take our honeymoon to the big island we stayed here overnight. They thought of everything. I appreciated that tbh there were no shared spaces. We had our own bathroom, and it's like a little studio apartment It was clean. Organized. Close to VNP. Breakfast was delicious. Private We enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to stay here again. It was the perfect place to stay.

We stayed several places on the Big Island, and this property was by far the best. It had amazing gardens, and the host and owner really make it feel like a very special experience. The room was very comfortable and clean, and we loved relaxing on the patio which overlooked the gardens. We rearranged some plans just to enjoy the patio outside our room and the beautiful gardens. We had just spent two nights in the park, and then finished our last two days at the bed and breakfast. I am very much about supporting local business when we travel, and if you are too, then book a stay here. Another perk I liked was the breakfast being brought to the room the day prior to enjoying it. So often I stay at a bed and breakfast, that the breakfast is served late, and we don’t get to enjoy it. The location is perfect for going into the park, and it is nice and quite which is something the park can not offer. If you want to stay at an amazing place, with a really great host, support local business, and stay away from the bustling park then this is the place to book your stay.

We were absolutely delighted with our stay. The location couldn’t be more perfect. The room was fantastic and very clean. Attention to detail in room amenities was greatly appreciated—esp the blankets on the patio chairs. Gardens and rain forest path were beautiful. Delicious breakfast on our patio was perfect.

Very nice and relaxing stay. The showers are like a Mini Spa and the breakfast is exzellent. Perfect Location for volcano national park. Also, they have a Huge „garden“ with an own rainforest walk, so you can skip the botanical garden. Best star viewing from the garden!

What an awesome stay we had at the Hale 'Ohu during our recent vacation to The Big Island!! Their location is so close to Volcano National Park that you can be there in less than 5 minutes. Very convenient for those wishing to spend time at the park. The hosts were friendly and very attentive to any needs and the Bamboo Room was GREAT!! And be sure to walk the grounds and gardens to view the incredibly beautiful flora and fauna. OUTSTANDING!!!

When you first arrive at this BNB (especially at night), you will start asking yourself if the GPS made a mistake. You will drive though a path that is totally vegetated and it will make you think you are in the jungle. But keep going! Because after a short drive, you will find a well-decorated and recently remodeled house with three sparated spaces. And how beautiful it is! Modern, quiet.. the only thing you will ear at night are the chirping birds. Lovely!

Gabrielle is very nice and friendly. We only stayed one night and it is at very nice and quiet area with a lot of plants and flowers. Also, it is close to Volcano NP so we would be able to visit NP at night to see volcano eruption. The restaurants near by that close very early as 4 or 6PM so please pay attention on it. It provided breakfast that was great. We will stay again if we visit. Recommend.

Mahalo, Rita! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at Hale 'Ohu and hope to welcome you back. Hopefully you will get a chance to go to Tuk Tuk food truck then as we know you were disappointed they were closed for the day when you visited. Rest assured, restaurants in town do not close as early.
