This is hands-down the best place I have ever stayed in my life, and I have done a lot of travelling. We stayed here in March 2014 and have been almost reluctant to leave a review as this place seems to have remained a well kept secret. I'm afraid that when the secret's out we won't be able to stay... More

We stayed in the Avocado Tree House for 2 nights as part of our round-the-island exploration trip. We wished we had stayed here longer! Everything was amazing; the house is beautiful inside and out, tranquil and relaxing. You wake up to birdsong and go to sleep to enchanting coqui frog call. It rained a lot at the time due to... Set in the middle of a working pineapple/citrus/ginger farm, the Mango House is hidden by trees from the nearest other building, maybe 300m away. Very, very quiet - barring frogs and birdsong (and that's what the world was supposed to sound like!). It is equally private, barring the odd visit by a worker to a pineapple field 50m away (maybe... We stayed in the Avocado house for our honeymoon! Our hosts Hugh and Elvira were the best. Every morning we would wake up to fresh smoothies or some sort of surprise in our fridge. They also invited us over for dinner one night. They were very helpful with directions and places that interested us. Hugh showed us around his organic... More

I agree with all the great things said about this place and Hugh and Elvira. We also stayed in the Avocado house. We loved the little kitchen (which our hosts stocked with some basics like eggs, milk, coffee, bread, fresh local fruit, locally made yogurt and homemade juice upon our arrival). We also loved the outdoor shower. We loved how... More

There is a reason I love the Big Island and staying here made it x10000 better. It is just beautiful, magical, perfect, relaxing, best decision you will made. We stayed in the Avocado House and it was perfect! The place is "off the grid" I suppose, and those resort addicts should not think about staying here. Elvira is one of... More

Your Hawaiian Retreat is just an amazing place, probably one of the best I've ever stayed at. We rented the Mango House, a 1-story exotic lodge located in the middle of a gorgeous piece of property. The place has everything you need and is tastefully decorated. Staying there was a quite relaxing and very enjoyable experience.

We spent 3 weeks at Your Hawaiian Retreat outside of Pahoa in Feb 2009. It was our first trip to the Big Island and we wanted to experience more of Hawaii than the kind of gross tourist scene in Kona. After a week on the Kona side, we were thrilled to leave the commercial side of the island and we... More

Your Hawaiian Retreat is a collection of houses ranging from a small treehouse to a palace-like collection of Balinese huts brought over in a shipping container. They sit on an off-grid property owned by a couple who run an organic ginger farm and can be rented at a shockingly reasonable rate. Two friends from the US and two friends from... More
