We have stayed at Da Log House with Dan and Susi twice now over the past 5 years. They are extremely nice, friendly and Dan makes a great breakfast. They keep the grounds lovely and the cabin is gorgeous and feels so warm and welcoming. They have a friendly do and you can throw open the windows at night to listen to the Coqui frogs. We definitely plan to come back.
Spent a couple of days in Big Island. This place is awesome. It is not a motel or hotel, but rather some kind of B&B. You live in this wonderful log house (logs were indeed imported from British Columbia, CANADA) together with the hosts. Depending on your booking, you will have your own room and your own bathroom on the ground floor together with access to the terrace. There also seems to be a room on the second floor, which I did not have. The breakfast is perfect. The owner will ask you for your wishes etc. Anything else is in perfect condition. Great Place and fair rates, even though it is not located by the sea. Indeed, the property is rather set back surrounded by a green area which you will find using a gravel road. Very close to the Volcano NP and not too far away from the seaside. I loved this place and highly recommend it!…
The house is beautiful, all made in cedar wood, it looks a little bit like a Swiss chalet in the middle of Hawaii. We had a beautiful room with a private bathroom, a fridge and a balcony with a great view on the garden, but still enjoyed the cosiness of a B&B. Susi and Daniel are adorable ,very friendly and talkative, they enjoy receiving people. The breakfast they prepared for us in their kitchen with fresh local product was simply amazing. We felt literally at home. The position is great to discover the area (20 minutes from Hilo or from Puna area or from Volcano).
Our stay at Susi's and Dan's house was wonderful, we highly recommend this place and would return anytime. The room and bathroom were cosy and very clean. The whole house is well maintained and looked after with love for detail. Our room downstairs didn't have an ensuite bathroom - not a big deal for us. The breakfast was home-made, freshly prepared and we could chose from a huge variety. Susi even baked some German dark bread, Dan let us taste his banana bread - both were equally delicious. We enjoyed our chats over breakfast, Susi and Dan are very kind, warm and interesting persons. People who are not used to dogs might want to know that there is a young and dominant dog guarding the ground, who might need some more training.
This is a number one place!! Without a doubt this is one of the nicest places we have ever stayed. Bed was one of the best. Bathroom one of the cleanest, 5-Star all the way!!! That would be enough, but when you wake up to the smell of bacon, that would also have been topping on the ice cream, but you get a smoothie, fresh fruit and an entire breakfast that missed only pancakes, not that there would have been room to eat it. Book early and know you won’t be disappointed. I came close to giving them less than perfect because it’s not the easiest road to there house. Don’t depend totally on your GPS. Request written directions and print them out. Dan and Susie are great people. Ever here again this is where we are staying!!
