If your idea of Hawaii is Waikiki, Don Ho, crowds, expensive activities & tours, this isn't your place. But, if you'd like to experience a peaceful authentic rural Hawaii setting amid beautiful exotic foliage, Hangin' Loose is it. And . . . you can experience it au natural.
Listen to the birds & the trade winds whispering thru the palm fronds, watch a million stars while serenaded by coqui frogs at night. Walk the grounds and see hundreds of native & exotic tropical flowers & plants.
Hang out by the pool, relax in the hot tub, sunbathe on the deck, have a drink . . . get the picture?
Or, visit some of the many nearby sites (almost all nearly free): Volcano National Park, clothing-optional beaches, swim nude with the dolphins, star-gaze atop Mauna Kea, check out the waterfalls, tour historic Hilo or funky Pahoa Town. Hike thru a volcano. Visit an orchid farm, or a macadamia nut plantation. Golf in Madam Pele's backyard (Volcano Golf Course). Snorkel with sea turtles. Visit a steam vent -- nature's sauna. Nude hiking along a pristine shoreline. And, much more . . .
Mostly, relax & have fun. That's what Hangin' Loose is all about.
Jan and Michael are awesome hosts. Michael is intimately familiar with the area and Jan is just as friendly as can be. They both go out of their way to ensure your stay is perfect. I will count the days until I am back. Lots of places on the property to explore and walk.
Great Place to stay just a short drive from Hilo on the Big Island. Just a short drive from Black Sand Beach (Clothing optional) Owners are very friendly. They had a wine and cheese gathering in the evening.
Kim & I stayed at hangin loose in February 2018 on the way home from the BNB. The first thing I should mention here is that our hosts, Michael & Janice, were exceptional. While we’ve been nudists for years this was our first time staying in a yurt and it turned out to be something we’d certainly do again the unique mix of indoor / outdoor environments is certainly something we’d suggest you experience. The Yurt is well presented and well equipped for both short and long stays and is situated in a clearing surrounded by dense tropical vegetation which makes the outdoor shower a joy to use and gives the place a sort of Gilligan’s Island feel. The Yurt also includes a private SPA, hot tub, though you can also use the common one or pool if you want to socialise with the other guests. Access to and around the property involves unsealed roads and while the image we’ve added show a 4X4 it’s certainly not needed. If you’re looking for a homogenised fully serviced resort experience this isn’t it. However, if you want somewhere that’s different, freeing and with the ultimate in relaxed dress codes this is the place to go. Oh and just so you can gauge how much we actually enjoyed our stay, we’re already planning our return visit. …
We stayed at Hangin’ Loose in November and Michael and Jan were great hosts. I can't understand anything less than a 4 star rating as they were great hosts and, we loved the accommodations. It is a little out of the way so we would recommend bringing any snacks or beer you may want. However, Michael was more than generous loaning me a few beers until I had a chance to get to the store. Five star for US. Mahalo.
If it gets better than this, we'd like to know! Anyone looking for a true Hawaiian hideaway in a lush, relaxed, unique spot need look no further - we've been so inspired by this location, it's owners, and the local scene that we're planning our retirement on the Hilo side of the Big Island. Mike and Janice are a part of why the property is so inviting; their easygoing warmth and personal hospitality made for icing on one of the most outstanding cakes we've ever had the pleasure of tasting! We landed on the Kona side and enjoyed an interesting journey across the volcanic terrain on the way to discovering that the East Side is the kind, and that Hangin' Loose is (for folks like us) unparalleled; our next trip will be built around their availability, and we probably won't bother staying elsewhere. Not only is this place the epitome of what naturists want to enjoy, it's also nestled in an enclave of mature, diverse, picturesque, and lovingly tended foliage that embodies life in the tropics. After doing a lot of homework, we were so happy to arrive and discover we did good - no joke - this may sound like too much gush, but the fact is that we found the Garden Cottage perfect. It's always the casual settings that we've preferred when we go anywhere, and we found that the accommodations were very well appointed, with everything we needed in every respect - and special kudos to the outdoor shower, which offered a true taste of the jungle. Happy hour each evening at the pool was a nice opportunity to get to know the guests and owners (BYO) and, although we didn't ask about any nude beach, we appreciated how close Kapoho is to Keaau (go at high tide). This part of the island is actually very desirable and nice to come back to after a day of exploring; those who focus on the Kona side are missing out. Hangin' Loose proved to exactly what we were hoping for in an exquisite setting, and we can very highly recommend this vacation destination!…
