This place has a good location in town but is a little hard to find as they have no road signage. It is close to shops and food. They have a nice staff and an adequate breakfast. The place is on the noisy side as sound transmits easily through the walls . There is also construction on weekdays during the day. The rooms are clean and large but have little space for clothes with no closets and few hangers. The beds and sheets were nice. There is a coin laundry on site for $7. I would stay here again.
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here. We stayed in what I understand is the newly renovated part of the hotel (when we booked there was an option to stay in a smaller, older queen room that was scheduled to be demolished in July for updating, so we chose the newer king bedroom for a bit more $$). They really took the time to remodel with quality craftsmanship, fixtures and furniture. It was relatively reasonable in cost compared to the bonkers resort prices just down the road at the Kohala & Kona coast by the water, but is only a 15 minute drive to the closest beach access (Mauna Kea Beach & Hapuna Beach). It's much cooler up in Waimea which we found to be a relief, but folks expecting warm weather should just be aware. It's got a lot of historic charm, from the look of the outside of the building to the fact that they still use real keys(!) with custom wooden room number tags. The bed was big and comfy and we found it to be very quiet, set up off the main road behind a small business park. Very nice Ola Tropical Apothecary bath products in the shower, and beautiful bathroom. Self-serve coffee & tea available through the evening and a hot breakfast included in the morning, with good coffee and delicious local papaya served on our visit. Easy check-in and check-out as well as concierge available by text. My only minor "down" is that the room was very dark - not much natural light and the light fixtures don't give off much light. Could use an overhead light or a torchiere-style uplit floor lamp or two. If you can get a reservation at Merriman's, it is almost literally next door (but be prepared to drop some $$$ - for an amazing meal though!). Big Island Brewhaus is also fun, and the short drive further up over the Kohala mountains is breathtaking on a clear day. I look forward to visiting again and seeing the rest of the update after construction begins this July.…
My son and I stayed here for one night in late December, and we had a great time! This Inn is truly charming and picturesque; it reminds me of something you see on the Hallmark channel. We loved all of the Christmas decorations! We stayed in a little suite with a kitchenette, and our room was lovely. It had a nice little dining room table, sofa/bed combo, and separate bedroom with bathroom. The shower is something right out of a spa. The bed was very comfortable, and we enjoyed the view of the garden from our window. They have a free continental breakfast, which was great. Scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, oatmeal, pastries, fruit, cereal, and a fancy latte machine! The front desk staff was amazing, as was housekeeping. They went above and beyond with giving us recommendations for restaurants, as well as calling us minutes after we left, telling us that my son had forgotten his phone charger. I highly recommend this Inn to anyone. We are already planning another (longer) stay!…
We have stayed at the Kamuela Inn many times before this renovation. The new Inn is larger, brighter. and with new plumbing fixtures. furniture curtains. linens. The new look is comfortable. It's great. The Staff were very welcoming and helpful. The price was better than I expected for the area. We live on Big Island and we will be back for a staycation.
My career came from 5-star hotels in Southern California in Management. Wanted to shout out to this property - This is a hidden jewel! I have admit I was a little nervous spending top dollar for an Inn and we had always stayed on the West side in larger hotels, to my surprise we will stay here again. We frequent Hawaii for family in Waimea. The way we were treated felt like we were the only people here. The staff is exceptional and all our needs were met for 13/days. The Housekeeping service is spot on and always replenished our towels, soap, paper towels in the suite we never had to ask for anything when it came to amenities. When we would go to beach, they had beach towels and a mat to lay on at our finger tips! The Suite One is a gem - highly recommend for family's. We have two grandchildren and felt like a spacious apartment when they came over. Worth the "BUCKS"! The grounds were immaculate and fabulous to walk every where in Waimea. Wanted to give a shout-out to Tania - she was so kind, gracious, and always answered my questions with her heart. She is a gem! Also, Stasia, she always had a smile and was gracious when I would roll into the breakfast café looking for coffee. Her co-worker also, was exceptional and always cheerful (sorry cannot remember her name). I apologize to leave anyone out, but I forgot to write names down, and truly I was on vacation. I truly want to acknowledge the entire team. Takes a team to make this a 5-star hotel. Keep it going for those of us who appreciate your true Aloha Spirit! Thank you all and cannot wait to return! Please know, note: no one will be disappointed in this place it's close to great beaches, hiking trails, great walking to restaurants, and much more! Thank you all for giving me the rest BTW, (the beds are fantastic) I needed after not being away for 2 1/2 years with my husband due to COVID. MAHALO…
We stayed at Kamuela Inn Sunday night on way to hike at Pololū. The room was nice. Shower was excellent. But there was literally a party happening right above us until 1:30am. As exhausted as we were it was impossible to go to sleep due to stomping (dancing??) and chairs moving around. Loud karaoke. Kids crying. We knew they were rowdy during day but they should’ve been worn out by midnight. I’ve never had that experience, especially on a Sunday night of all times. Walls are thin. I feel like the management should’ve had a clue - unless we were just the suckers who got put under the party room. I was out in the parking lot at 1:00am and waved at folks going in and out. They were trying to quieten things but not much luck. I have nothing against parties but seems like quiet hours would be a good idea. There were a lot of giant pickup trucks in the parking lot. …
We booked two rooms for our family of four. The rooms were small. You can't really move around. But it wasn't a big issue for us, as we just needed a place to sleep after our horseback ride on our way to Hilo before going back to Kona which was our home base during this trip. The rooms (most importantly, the bathrooms and the beds) were very clean, and we slept well. Because the Moa Kitchen (which I recommend for dinner by the way) was full, we opted for takeout and had a nice dinner at the gazebo at Kamuela Inn. The free breakfast the next morning was not fancy, but it was a lot, good and filling. I'd highly recommend the inn if you are looking for a place to stay overnight in Waimea.
We stayed here for 1 night - the night we did a tour to Mauna Kea summit. Our room was very nice - even had a working kitchen, though we did not need it. Recently renovated room - very comfortable and spacious. Shower was phenomenal with rainforest head, good shampoo/conditioner/body wash, and a cobblestone like tile floor. Pretty good breakfast too - help yourself type - with eggs, sausage, toast/muffins/bagels, cereal, and fresh fruit (bananas, oranges). Juice, tea and coffee too. Also some Japanese breakfast items like rice and miso soup. Very nice garden area to eat breakfast outside.
We stayed here only one night on our trip around the island. The room was renovated and nice looking with a pretty barn door to the bathroom and rainforest shower/toilet with separate door. It kind of has a horse/ranch theme. Smelled very new and clean. The shower had awesome Hawaiian soaps. I actually purchased the passionfruit body wash after returning home. No microwave but I believe they have one downstairs if you ask. There was a mini fridge. No AC, only a ceiling fan which was ok for a night. The staff was nice and helpful. Parking was easy and plentiful. The hotel is tucked back in behind other businesses so it is quiet. We were on the 2nd floor, and we took the stairs (I don't think they have an elevator). In the morning there was a grab and go breakfast outside due to covid which included blueberry muffins, yogurt, coffee, juice, cereal.…
I stayed there for almost 2 weeks on a work trip. Other than the room being small, everything else was great. I'll return to the area a few weeks from now and will stay there again. It'll be even better once the breakfast room reopens post-COVID -- take-out isn't the same.
