Staying at the Shipman House in Hilo, Hawaii was like taking a journey back in time, but with the necessary modern conveniences. As we crossed the bridge to reach the property, we were greeted by a lush tropical jungle on both sides of the ravine---coconut trees---date palms--apple banana and mango trees and many others we couldn't identify. The grand house...

Beautiful historic Bed and Breakfast, Victorian mansion on the big Island with the most amazing breakfast. Homemade Macadamia Nut cereal with vanilla yogurt and delicious fruits from the rain forest garden you have never seen. A must if you are on the Big Island. If you get the chance to chat with Barbara you will get a real insight into...

My husband and I live on Oahu and were looking for a relaxing getaway on the Big Island. We found the Shipman House online, and thought it looked ideal for a restful weekend. What we found was beyond our highest expectations...we stayed in Auntie Carrie's room and were thrilled with our stay. The house is breathtakingly gorgeous; filled with anecdotal...

The personalized service exceeded my expectations! I celebrated my birthday there and was treated to a delicious baked surprise for breakfast. Speaking of breakfast, theirs is not to be missed! Don't forget to pick up some kimono robes when you check out too.

The pictures of the Shipman House are indeed beautiful, but I cannot say enough on how beautiful the house and...

Fabulous historic house near Hilo Bay. Accomodations were excellent. Our bedroom on the second floor had its own private bath. Breakfast on the porch overlooking Hilo Bay was delicious including fruits grown on the property as well as home made corn bread and jams. Barabara and Gary made you feel like one of the family and shared their home and...

zOur 3 night stay at the Shipman House was one of the most satisfying and nourishing Bed and Breakfast experiences we have ever had. As we crossed the small bridge onto Reed’s Island, our adventure on the Big Island of Hawaii turned into quite a magical experience! Staying at the Shipman House Bed and Breakfast was the highlight of my family's trip to the Big Island for spring break. Our family of 5 stayed in the spacious two bedroom guest cottage that also had a large screened porch. We woke up to see a jungle of trees at our windows and to hear birds chirping. At night,...

A delightful restored historic home, full of beautiful furniture, artefacts and treasures, each with its own particular story. Wake up to a breakfast of delicious morning glory muffins and other goodies. Very comfortable rooms. Lovely grounds. Barbara can tell you its full history and will make your stay memorable.
