This House was introduced in a high class travel magazine as one of the best places to stay in Hawaii for nature lover, and those who are interested in Hawaiian culture and history. Both of my wife and I are very much interested in Hawaiian culture, history and particularly its music and dance (hula). We learned that the last Queen...

The home is magnificient with old world charm. Barbara and Gary are gracious, and they are a great source of information about the area. The breakfast was a treat of local traditions, and the accomodations comfortable. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

When we visit Hilo and/or have out of town guests we always try to stay at the Shipman House. To see the beautiful old home filled with wonderful antigues from the early days of old Hawaii is reason enough to return again and again. The morning breakfast is served in the sun room and on the wrap around lanai. The...

Shipman House is an amazing place, providing an insight into the gracious life of Hilo society from the early 1900's. In addition to the house itself, with its koa floors and curved window glass etc, it has all the antique furniture and artifacts to go with it. In this, it surpasses all the other historic homes open to the public...

The owner, Barbara, went above and beyond, when we missed our flight to HI, and had to arrive a day late. We now needed to rent a car in Hilo, and none of the national chains had one. So she got us a car from a local company. She also made resturaunt reservations for us. And needless to say, she...

I was rushed to attend meetings, meet friends for dinner, etc but the minute we stepped through the door of the Shipman House the Aloha feeling surrounded us and all else seemed far away. The owners are so gracious and the house with original antiques welcomes you back in time, not to mention the fabulous breakfast. This is truely a...

Staying at the Shipman House in Hilo, Hawaii was like taking a journey back in time, but with the necessary modern conveniences. As we crossed the bridge to reach the property, we were greeted by a lush tropical jungle on both sides of the ravine---coconut trees---date palms--apple banana and mango trees and many others we couldn't identify. The grand house...

Beautiful historic Bed and Breakfast, Victorian mansion on the big Island with the most amazing breakfast. Homemade Macadamia Nut cereal with vanilla yogurt and delicious fruits from the rain forest garden you have never seen. A must if you are on the Big Island. If you get the chance to chat with Barbara you will get a real insight into...

My husband and I live on Oahu and were looking for a relaxing getaway on the Big Island. We found the Shipman House online, and thought it looked ideal for a restful weekend. What we found was beyond our highest expectations...we stayed in Auntie Carrie's room and were thrilled with our stay. The house is breathtakingly gorgeous; filled with anecdotal...

The personalized service exceeded my expectations! I celebrated my birthday there and was treated to a delicious baked surprise for breakfast. Speaking of breakfast, theirs is not to be missed! Don't forget to pick up some kimono robes when you check out too.
