We spent 4 nights at Shipman House, and we had a great time. Barbara and Gary are wonderful hosts and the house and its surroundings are magnificent. Especially we enjoyed the mornings around the extended, organic breakfast on the porch - all sorts of local fruit, smoothies and home baked goodies. The house somehow attracts interesting visitors, and we enjoyed...

Barbara and Gary Anderson, our hosts at Shipman House, invited us into their B&B as if it was their home, which, in fact, it is -- a turn-of-the-century, fully restored Victorian house, with 2 cottages, located on acres of tropical fruit trees. Every morning, we were greeted with a cornucopia of fresh Hawaiian fruits and smoothies. Barbara graced us with...

Stayed at the Shipman B&B in Hilo and it was so lovely that absolutely, we would go back. It was a beautiful place and the hosts were very gracious. The room was clean and spacious as were the bathroom amenities. Breakfast was a delight as the hosts shared local fruit from their garden in addition to wonderful home baked breads....

We were travelling on Big Island, Hawaii and it was my wife's birthday. Although to be in Hawaii was already something special, I was looking for a highlight for that day. The tourist map we had received from the rental car contained a photo of a bed&breakfast mansion, which looked really great and I said to my wife, we will...

Look- it's expensive- I grant that. Still, on every front it is worth it. After this place, any hotel is a crackerbox- and a small one at that. The people are friendly and very helpful, and knowledgable of the area- found us services we needed and good advice on restaurants and attractions. The house itself was worth the price of...

I have to say that the Shipman House B&B is my new favorite place on the planet! It was the most beautiful, relaxing, peaceful, vacation I've ever had! The house itself is georgeous! It is a remodeled, historic Victorian mansion and full of beautiful, antique furniture. And, the scenic view is remarkable! It makes you feel like you are in...

We were at the shipman house April 2-6 2008. Gary and Barbara were very gracious and were a wealth of Hawaiian knowledge. Our stay at the Shipman House was like slipping back in time. The breakfast served on the veranda was fruit picked on their property. I enjoyed some fruit I did not know existed. Before we left Barbara took...

We had a wonderful, but all too short, stay at this exquisitely restored inn. The wide porch is very inviting and the interior is of special interest. It provides a historic reference to how life once was in 'old hawaii' and a glimpse into the history of the family who built and lived here. The grounds are beautifully maintained. The...

This House was introduced in a high class travel magazine as one of the best places to stay in Hawaii for nature lover, and those who are interested in Hawaiian culture and history. Both of my wife and I are very much interested in Hawaiian culture, history and particularly its music and dance (hula). We learned that the last Queen...

The home is magnificient with old world charm. Barbara and Gary are gracious, and they are a great source of information about the area. The breakfast was a treat of local traditions, and the accomodations comfortable. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
