The Inn is a great base to explore Hilo, the East Coast of the Big Island, and Volcano National Park. The Inn offers neat, airy, cheerful rooms appointed to make visitors comfortable. Hawaiian history and culture surrounds you and the innkeeper, Gaye, is generous with information and assistance. The breakfasts - with fresh fruit, juice, coffee and tea, yogurt and a hearty cooked dish--were delicious.

Fate brought us to Gay and her Hilo Honu B & B. Our original plans to rent a house were cancelled by the owner, so we feel very lucky to have found the Hilo Honu B & B with it’s authentic Japanese Samurai Room that is very spacious with a view of the bay. Even got to see a rainbow. My husband Jim and I enjoyed our 9 night stay immensely. We are world travelers and this is one of the best B & B experiences we have had. This was all due to Gay’s warm hospitality who made us feel right at home. It felt like we were staying with friends. Very convenient location just up the hill from the “downtown” where many excellent restaurants are located. For most of our stay, we felt like we had the whole house to ourselves. We are movie-holics so appreciated that we could stream current movies on the tv and also watch the Super Bowl on the local cable. Even though we already had plans to go over to the Kona side after our stay, we would have liked to have spent more time here. We appreciate the fact that Hilo has retained the Hawaiian culture and the laid back attitude. We enjoyed the nightly live Hawaiian music in various restaurants.

Having stayed at many B and Bs over the years, the Hilo Honu set a new benchmark for the small inn experience. Set on a quiet residential street and architecturally stunning one immediately feels transported to a different Hawai’i, the old Hawai’i, that is sadly being replaced by mega resorts and big box stores.  The tranquility is unmatched and my first night there was honestly one of the best rests I’ve experienced on any vacation.  The innkeeper Gay is gracious and accommodating.  The rooms are spacious and well appointed with an abundance of island charm.  I have a close friend in San Diego who has often described Hawai’i as a magical place.  I finally understand.

This bed and breakfast embodies the spirit of Aloha and was the best decision we made in planning our first trip to the big Island for a romantic mini moon. To start, it's located at the top of a peaceful hill yet close to everything you want to be near in downtown Hilo (foodies, you will appreciate the abundance of mouth watering hole in the wall restaurants), the gardens, Rainbow falls, etc. Lush vegetation surrounds the well-built stunning B&B, our spacious room had every little touch, decorated in island style with an authentic infusion of Hawaiian touches. The host was exceptionally welcoming yet nonintrusive at the same time. Breakfast was multi-course and delicious in a beautiful dining room with sun streaming through the windows as we listened to soft Hawaiian music in the background, surrounded by pictures and artwork reflecting the host's true love of the island. Housekeeping provided, mini-fridge, good internet, great shower. We tend to want to travel a new place for every vacation but plan to come back to Hilo just to stay at this B&B. We truly left it with more soul and serenity than when we came!

This B&B was such a treat. The location is very convenient to everything in Hilo and then the parking is free so makes it easy to explore the island with a car rental. Gay really cares about her guests and you can see it in all the details and how accommodating she is. The breakfast was always delicious and fresh. The rooms are reasonably priced. Hilo Honu Inn made for a very relaxing experience. Highly recommend to book here for an authentic experience away from hotels and resorts. Everything was clean and well kept. Also, Gay can help with any info and anything you may need for your stay on the Big Island.
