The Old Hawaiian B&B is a two story 'Olde Hawaiian Style' home
located on 1/2 acre of gorgeous landscaped grounds, backing onto State-owned land, and the Wailuku River. It is situated in one of the most peaceful and tropical areas of Hilo, and only two blocks from the Boiling Pots Park, which has an overlook of the river.
We originally booked two nights for Sunrise room, got a free upgrade to Hawaiian room, which is the biggest due to other guests need 5 consecutive nights. Lory has the place very well managed. There is no TV now AC, but none is needed since we left early and return late and weather was cool at night. Breakfast was great with fresh fruits and tasty basked goods. We loved the coffee as well! Backyard is big and beautiful with flowers. It rained the first night and I was able to star gazing on the second night since her place is high on the hill and there were not much city lights. It is very close to Wailuku river state park, hence, close to Rainbow falls and Boiling ponds as well. Will not hesistate to recommend nor stay next time.
Really enjoyed this B&B. Rooms were comfortable and breakfast was always delicious. (I still have fond memories of some of those baked goods.) Lory was helpful with tips and places to go. The grounds, as previously mentioned, are quite lovely. I can't imagine how much upkeep that must take. Would recommend for a low-key trip to Hilo.
We had a family emergency and had to cancel our trip to Hawaii altogether :(. Lory was understanding, compassionate and empathetic throughout the cancelation processes. We are looking forward to staying here when we come back! Could not recommend this family owned businesses over big name hotels more. Thanks for being so understanding again Lory !
We spent the first three nights of our honeymoon at this hidden treasure. Lori greeted us and told us about the place. We were in Sunrise room which had shower and one Q bed. There’s no AC or TV but it was perfectly fine in May for us at night with the windows up and fan and we didn’t come to Hawaii to sit around and watch TV so we didn’t miss that. The scenery in the yard was beautiful and there was a small waterfall in the back. Great to wake up to the beauty and birds chirping. Almost all the fruit she serves for breakfast is grown on her trees. She made these absolutely wonderful, moist breads that are to die for. LORI STICK WITH THE CHOC CHIPS, THEY’RE YUM!! Breakfast consists of breads, fruit, yogurt, smoothie, and boiled eggs. She packed us a to-go breakfast for our flight out too. She has a boiling teapot for tea or coffee anytime you want. Came in super handy as we brought ramen with us for snacking. There’s a community microwave and mini frig for your use on the lanai. Don’t mind the geckos, they’re more afraid of you than you are them and part of paradise. If you plan to hike or go to the beach, visit the deli at the Sack ‘n Save and they will make you sandwiches. Loved this place and would stay again for sure.…
Stayed an entire week at this property with 4 friends. We loved it! Property is gorgeous and just a short walk to Boiling Pots and 1 mile from Rainbow Falls. The host made us a spectacular breakfast every morning and even catered to my vegan diet, including fresh fruits grown right on their land. It's just a short ride into downtown or the bayfront, so was convenient for many of our activities. If you're looking for more of a local feel and to experience the true Hilo Aloha spirit, this is a fabulous place to stay!
