Basic old school motel that gives you a taste of local Hawaii away from the big tourist spots. Amazing free breakfast and friendly staff and an easy 5min walk into town where there are heaps of bars/restaurants. There are three levels of rooms here: An outdoor hostel (think like sleeping in south east asia with a bed and a mosquito...

If you're looking for upscale with carpeting, big screen TV etc. then look elsewhere. To be quite honest, most places on this island are scantily clad with few frills including people's homes. It's very humid here. Lot's of mildew. The more dressings, the more for mildew to cling to. This is an old building originally built as housing for plantation...

Let's start with the outdoor dorm. It cannot be called a dorm it is basically in the dump garage of the property, very filthy and even for hostel style accommodation really poor, worst I stayed in by far on all of the islands, and believe me I stayed in a lot. Then the "continental" breakfast, again putting out reduced priced...

Wild Ginger Inn final 2 It is a family business, Hawaiin people. A wood frame complex of about 40 rooms on 2 levels built on the side of a hill, sunken into lower level of a beautiful garden looking into the sea. There is lush vegetation and flowers enveloping the complex and the surrounding, but it is not a Sheraton...

I stayed here longer than most do and got talking to staff (not the owners) about the hotel . The good first. Very friendly staff and owners. Great location Safe Great breakfast, lobby and tropical gardens Lowest price hotel in Hilo. Now the not so good . The place was built in the 1920,s as lodgings for plantation workers. That...

I stayed in the outdoor dorm. even for hostel standards it was the opposite of luxurious... there were a lot of mosquitos and roaches and I couldn't enter the lobby/kitchen after 9pm. The wifi is not available in the outdoor dorm. The staff is absolutely lovely and the location is perfect - central and safe. If you want to meet...

Husband and I stayed 4 nights at Wild Ginger Inn during Merrie Monarch in March 2016. We found the Inn comfortable enough. Loved the reception area and friendly atmosphere. Daily buffet breakfast is basic fruit, pastry, cereal, and very good coffee. Room 25 was very clean and cozy. Bathroom shower was plenty large and had a handheld shower wand like...

If you are looking for something swanky and "upscale" this is not for you, but if you like a friendly place that feels like real old Hawaii, you gotta stay here! Fresh breakfast every morning consists of home baked treats and their own home grown fruit (papaya, bananas, etc.) PLUS every night they had something extra going on in the...

Me and my partner have been to the Big Island twice and both times we stayed at the Wild Ginger, we first picked it because it was a reasonable price with breakfast included and returned because of the amazing staff. We stayed in a private room with ensuite, there is a ceiling fan also a fridge which is handy as...

I only needed a place in Hilo for one night with an early departure, so I booked a private room in the hostel side of the Ginger Inn. The good - location is on quiet residential street just a few blocks from Hilo Farmer's Market and beach and various downtown restaurants. There is free breakfast, but it's pretty basic, I...
