Spent 9 nights there. The building could have been renovated nowadays because many of rooms are old stylish, but this is the athmosphare what shows real Hawaii. Staff is very friendly and the hall is adorable, where the breakfest is served. Separate kitchen, if you want to cook something, you can.

we stayed here for 4 days, and loved it. It is an old sugar cane plantation that has been converted to accommodation. The staff were very friendly and helpful, lending us an umbrella when it rained. The location is great! Walking distance into town and the local restaurants. Complimentary wifi is available in the common/breakfast area (not in rooms though)....

Wild Ginger Inn is totally awesome, gives you a view of the classic old style Big Island, food is great and the owners work on site so you feel at home, the rooms give you a wonderful vibe and you feel like you on an Island and its down right awesome, I will be back.

This is a building of older construction, that is a hostel as well as a hotel. Though we found the walls to be very thin, we enjoyed the pleasant family and other personnel, the "old Hawaii" feeling, and the fresh papaya and homemade breads at breakfast. We were comfortable and enjoyed our stay.

My husband and I stayed here over Thanksgiving weekend. We needed a cheap place every to stay close to the Volcano National Park. The pros: it had free breakfast, late check-in and free parking. The Cons: it was old looking and if you get grossed out by old peeling paint and old furnishings then this isn't for you. There was...

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in mid September. The Wild Ginger is described as a hostel/hotel as it has dormitories and private rooms. We had en-suite room 23 at the bottom of the stairs from the lobby area. Our room had a double bed, a refrigerator, TV, a microwave and bathroom with toilet, washbasin and shower...

My wife and I just finished off our first stop on the Big Island in Hilo. Our stay at the Wild Ginger in Hilo was better than what we expected (given that we did quite a bit of research and read one too many bad reviews). We are glad to experience this lovely family own and operate hotel located in...

Small, older motel atmosphere. Great for our needs, which were basically a place to sleep and shower in the morning. Pretty nice breakfast of various pastries, fruit, cereal, coffee, tea, etc. Not world class or anything, but that wasn't expected. Comfortable open lobby to settle down before going to bed.
