I don't know why, but seeing Arnott's as I'd drive to Hilo's beaches always piqued my interest. We ended up deciding to stay here during part of our most recent trip, given the positive reviews. We were looking forward to being out of Hilo's center proper, but as my boyfriend noticed, it's kind of weird to drive through the industrial... More

Aloha and thanks for the extensive review. I'm glad you finally stayed at Arnott's as you obviously appreciated the area we are in. As you said you had lived in Hilo your comment passing through the industrial area seems strange as all over the world one has to pass through less desirable areas to get to the nice areas. Did... Nicely renovated semi private facalities. Great shared kitchen. Very clean and well kept. Only 45mins from the volcanoes and 10mins into Hilo. The staff were also very friendly and was nice to help celebrate Arnotts 26th Birthday.

Reasons to stay here: + quiet location (own transport required) + good value for money + attentive staff (Brittany and Sarah) and friendly hosts + nice outside lounge area with separate TV room + 'quiet zone' enforced from 10pm + no bunk beds, only individual beds in dormitory + clean and well equipped kitchen + great shower in male dormitory... Really great location in Hawaii Big Island. We stayed at Arnott's Lodge as backpackers on their Campsite. The kitchens and "bathrooms" were clean, only that there could be more silverware in the kitchens. In the big loungearea you can hang around and have great chats with other guests. We also booked the Mauna Kea Sunset Tour at Arnott's Adventures. Our... More

We had a one bedroom suite for only one night but would have happily stayed longer if our schedule allowed. The suite was impeccably clean. Simply furnished but more than adequate in very way. The kitchen was handy to have (fridge in our bedroom). Absolute highlight was breakfast on the balcony with geckos frolicking around us. Staff were great; helpful,... More

A group of 6 of us stayed for 4 nights. The apartment was perfect for us, and the new air-conditioning was appreciated! Doug and his staff were very friendly. The mauna kea tour is a must do! The lodge is a little out of town so I wold recommend hiring a car, it's a hot walk to the nearest restaurant!

Arnott's Lodge offers a good base to explore Big Island. We loved the not so touristy town of Hilo, as well as the unique beaches of the westcoast. For travelers without car (and those who enjoy biking), Arnott's Lodge offers beach-cruiser-bicycles to a fair price. Bring food, since there's no café or restaurant close. Don't expect hikes if you book... More

Stayed at the lodge for 4 days in a group of 6. Doug, the staff at the lodge and all the tour guides were fantastic. The room we stayed in was recently renovated and all common areas made for a great atmosphere. Arnott's lodge is highly recommended and the Mauna Kea tour is a must!

Great hostel with lots of parking space and really nice and helpful receptionist, it exceeded our expectations. We liked the full equipped kitchen and the space of the semi-private rooms (we stayed twice in two different ones). Air conditioning was not necessary, a fridge in the room very useful. The best part of our stay in Arnott's Lodge was the... More

We stayed in the semi-private double for 4 nights. Very clean, great amenities, and the off-peak season meant we had the whole apartment to ourselves which was an added bonus! The staff were all really friendly and helpful :) The main areas were really nice too! Great places to sit, eat, drink, and play cards. They rent out bicycles which... More
