If you want a resort and expensive restaurant by the pool scenario, this isn't for you. If you want quiet, starry nights, and room for your kids (and yourself) to roam around, then this is your place. It's the first place we've ever booked our next stay before we left. I even had mixed feelings about leaving a review and finding it harder for myself to book! We traveled with our 9 year old daughter. Hawi is cute and has Nakata market for groceries. Heading to Pololū valley for a sunrise hike is strongly recommended.
My husband and I had a lovely four nights at Miles Away cottage on Puakea Ranch recently. 1/30/20 to 2/4/20. The cottage was very sweet, charming, and all it was promised. There were several days we never left the farm. Christy and Josh were great! This place is an amazing slice of Old Hawaii updated beautifully. Don’t stay here if you expect a resort atmosphere with clubs, etc... It is a VERY well run quiet, small upscale farm. We loved it,
After a 3 day stay at a resort on Oahu we were happy for the world to slow down and experience authentic Hawaii at Puakea Ranch. From fresh eggs in the morning to the beautiful private pool and grounds, we enjoyed every moment of our stay at this rustic private spot. I was nervous about our 2 teenage sons acclimating to a slower lifestyle, but they settled right in and explored the ranch, adopting Humphrey Bogart the dog, who visited us throughout our stay. We stayed at Cowboy House, which was comfortable with a beautifully appointed bathhouse. Would highly recommend a stay at Paukea Ranch
Our kids were skeptical when we left the beaches of Mauna Lani for more remote Hawi. That skepticism ended upon seeing the pool, garden, and ranch animals. The kids loved fetching eggs, picking herbs, playing with the ranch dogs (Bo the favorite!), picking mangoes and swinging in the trees. So much so that they wanted to stay put vs explore local sights (we drug them anyway). Cowboy house was well appointed, providing all we needed for a couple nights’ comfort. One bedroom is not connected, which was fine for us but with younger kids take note. The bathhouse is spa-quality, but does take a few steps outside to get there. Josh was super helpful. We’d come back if local again!
We stayed at "Yoshi's House," which is near the top of the property, with a spectacular view of Maui and sunsets into the ocean. The house is wonderful, with plenty of space and a very nice kitchen. The property includes a lovely pool and a very nice bath house, and you can walk down to the garden to gather vegetables and herbs to supplement your meals, along with fresh-laid eggs from the resident chickens. You feel like you have the place to yourself (there are only four rentals on the ranch). At the same time, it's easy to get to the small town of Hawi, or wind your way inland to Waimea, or drive down to the Hale I'a (Da Fish House) for fresh-caught fish to cook back at the ranch, or head down to the big resorts. All in all, the perfect getaway from daily cares.
