Eatons' Ranch is a dude and cattle ranch located on the magnificent, pine-covered eastern slopes of the Bighorn Mountains. Just eighteen miles of Sheridan, WY, the Ranch consists of 7,000 acres of beautiful open country with rolling hills, grassy meadows and hidden valleys. For over 137 years, we have offered guests a western experience and shared with them a way of life.

My friend and I went to Wyoming on a 10-day trip. Eaton's was our second stop. The Ritz Carleton it is not. It is rustic, dusty, remote, and everything that two burned-out city professional women wanted. It was 102 degrees when we arrived. Our cabin had no air conditioning, and it was two days later that we found a box fan in our closet. That would have made our first night much more pleasant. Meals are served in a large dining hall. Due to Covid, parties were seated at separate tables. Food was not fancy, served buffet style when many guests were expected. On our last days fewer guests were on site and meals were prepared to order, which was very nice. Horseback riding was the best part of the trip. It was fun to watch the herd being brought to the barnyard from the mountains in the morning before we had breakfast. We were fitted for saddles before our first ride, and our skill levels were reviewed before mounts were chosen for us. Our wrangler, Lila, was knowledgeable, skilled and a pleasure to ride with. On our last morning, we woke to 6" of snow. Lila took my companion out that morning, for what she described as the best ride of the trip. We could have spent a month there (which some people do!) and been very happy girls. It was truly our adult summer camp.

We just returned from our fourth trip to Eaton's. I recommend this venerable, wonderful ranch to everyone. Great for family vacations, regardless of your riding ability (they have a horse for you!). The scenery is spectacular and the old-fashioned Western ambiance is just as it should be. Don't go if you're expecting some lavish gourmet experience or a luxury setting - visit for the authenticity, super-friendly people, and a relaxing experience amid scenery that tops any Western movie.

While some non-horse activities were suspended in order to maintain social distancing, the horse activities were unchanged. The staff -- wranglers and servers, etc. -- wore masks. Meals had grab or outdoor options but the dining hall was open and able to maintain social distance. Grandkids loved the ride opportunities and didn't miss one!

I would've given Eaton's 3 stars, but the scenery was so breathtaking I bumped it up to 4. We planned a x country trip based on Eaton's, because my stepdaughter loves to horseback ride. Desiree in the front office was a pleasure to work with and I know she did her best in light of the pandemic throwing everything into a tailspin. Because of Covid, no other activities but riding were being offered which was a disappointment, especially for the price point. I felt like they could've thought more out of the box on how to keep guests entertained. As other reviewers have mentioned, communication is very poor. Example, we rushed to get to the ranch on Saturday in time for the evening ride, only to arrive and be told there was no evening ride on Saturdays...grrrr. We stayed in Storybook Cabin which was very spacious and private. At night we would sit in the living room and enjoy the fireplace. Cabins were clean, but old...screen door broken, holes in the bedsheets, rust stains in the toilet..if you're like us, you're spending more time outside than in, so you just line up with it. The staff is young and friendly. We really enjoyed getting to know everyone from Bonnie the bartender to Emily our server to Jess the wrangler. Food is very average- don't be expecting any gourmet meals. If you can get past these issues, you will be blown away by the scenery on the horseback rides - those vista views will stay with me forever. They do let you take horses out on your own and canter, which seems risky to me if you're not an experienced rider, but there aren't many rules at this ranch. My stepdaughter had a fantastic time, which is all that really mattered to me and it is a beautiful part of the country.

You couldn’t have a better experience than visiting Eaton’s Ranch. They treat you like family from the moment you step onto the Ranch. The staff are amazing, the food is wonderful and there is no way to describe how beautiful views are all over the ranch. The horses are a dream to ride and the trails are breathtaking. Don’t miss a chance to visit. Remember, this is not a 5 star resort with spa and butler service... It is a 5 star experience. There is a difference and one that they make sure you know on the website. If you read the information on their site they describe in detail all the housing and amenities. The family members still running the Ranch really care about the ranch and its guests. You will quickly feel like part of the family and will want to return year after year. I travel the world for a living and there are very few places that make you feel this welcome and loved. You will not find a better experience of this kind anywhere else... don’t miss out! P.S. If you get a chance to ride Roger... tell him Kevin said hi!
