Detailed Reviews
I am trying to be fair in this review. We booked two nights here in August and were informed three weeks before we got there that they had to close early for unavoidable reasons. They were honouring the reservations but there would be no facilities. We thought this would be okay and went anyway. It is a lovely location by the lake. The lady who checked us in was very friendly. From what we saw of the indoors of the main building it looked very nice and would have been a nice place to eat or spend and evening at the bar.
The cabin was nice and cosy. We enjoyed the small porch at the front with its chairs and nice view of the lake. Inside there were comfy chairs to sit it, a TV, fridge and microwave. The fridge wasn't terribly clean, we found a dead moth in the ice tray. There were also bugs in the windows and the floor felt a bit dusty. The bathroom was okay, but the shower was tucked into a small corner of it where there was no lighting, so it was a bit dark.
However, the beds had lovely clean sheets on them and we were warm enough at night. In fact I had one of the best sleeps of the holiday here.
I think, had everything been open and working it would have been a lovely place to stay. The only downside is that it is 9 miles outside of Pinedale, miles away from anywhere, the last 2 miles of which are down a very bumpy and pot-hole filled dirt track with no lighting. There is no Wi-Fi and no cooking facilities in the cabins. The nine mile trip to get something to eat was a real pain,. So in the end we only stayed the one night.

I appreciate your review. We apologize again for our early closure this season; we certainly wish it hadn't been necessary. We kept cabin reservations available for those who wanted to keep them without restaurant amenities primarily to make sure those people with eclipse accommodations had a place to stay since rooms were scarce at that time. But we did notify everyone to make sure guests had the opportunity to make other plans for restaurants or cancel their reservations. I hope you will visit another time in the future

This is not listed as a restaurant, so I will have to review it here. We stayed last fall in their wonderful cabins, and it was beautiful, comfortable and I hope to do this again. But we adore the Half Moon Lake Restaurant and have recently ate dinner there. They have a chef, not a cook, who actually comes and checks on his customers. We started with the bacon wrapped shrimp. Only three pieces but enormous and insanely delicious. The bacon was crispy delicious and the shrimp was moist, fleshy and juicy. I have had worse in San Francisco. On the pier. Then I had the salmon cooked on a cedar plank- the flavor permeated the fish, leaving it tasty, and it has a sauce to die for. The rib eye my husband had made him say it was the best ever. We had to take a break, sip wine on the deck, enjoy the view and the sunset before we tackled the carrot cake. Good thing we split it because it was so rich and creamy and homemade that it should come with grandma in an apron. This is medium expensive, but a genuine treat for a special occasion, or tomorrow.

This classic western resort is tucked into a spectacular mountain lake setting near Pinedale Wyoming. If you enjoy hiking, fishing, photography, or horseback riding then look no further---you are home. Just by breathing that crisp mountain air you can feel all the"city stress" melting away. The dining experience was exceptional which is all the better because we seem to eat more when we are in the mountains! All of our expectations were exceeded by a wide margin--from the classic western cabins to the warm friendliness of the staff. Two insanely star worthy items of note: the prime rib on Friday and Saturday night and the Jack Daniels root beer floats( I know it sounds crazy---until you try one) The Randolphs

My wife, our friends and myself visited the marina on July 4th 2020. We set up a boat reservation for 1pm. When we got there they told us that it was overbooked. They told us we could take another boat out once they finished putting a new motor on it. So, we decided to wait and they didn’t offer to pay for a drink or food. Instead, we spent very good money on drinks and food. When the boat was ready( two hours after our reservation), they gave us a radio in case it broke down. One hour later the boat broke down. We called in on the radio for over an hour with no response. If it were not for a gracious civilian who towed us back in we would have been stuck out there with no help. When we finally got back in no one was there to assist us with the boat At all. I went in to return the radio and explain what happened. The manager just said “we’re sorry”. I had to say that we were not going to pay for the boat rather than her communicating to us that it was on them. She didn’t try to offer us a drink or any type of voucher to make up for their mistakes. It was a joke and they will no longer get business from us or our local friends.

I made a dinner reservation for seven (7) family members for Tuesday, August 15 two weeks in advance of our arrival. We arrived on time and there was no one around to seat us - had to go into the bar and ask to be seated. There were no other guests in the dining room, three (3) guests in the bar. We initially ordered four beers, one cocktail and one glass of wine - took forever to get our drinks. Subsequent refills were almost an impossibility because the bartender was too busy conversing with her three friends in the bar. Finally had to go into the bar and confront her to get the second round of drinks. Our meal was a huge disappointment as well - steaks overcooked, lamb chops overcooked and tougher than my boot sole and our meals came out of the kitchen cold. There was a time when Jack McMurry owned the establishment and the food/service was five star, but no longer under the new owners. Don't waste your money going to the Half Moon Lake Lodge you will be sorely disappointed. Try Stockmans in Pinedale, they are under new ownership and the service and food is out of this world.

I used trip advisor to choose good places to ride horses to see more of the country. Got to the Lodge and they tell me wrangler is gone for the year. (end of August) Never offered to set me up with someone else. More of a fishing lodge I think. Cabin rooms were average and rest rooms had a bad odor. Worst lodging experience of 10 day trip.

Turned off blacktop onto pothole road. Cabin 7 had no internet or TV. Cabin 7 was part of a Tri plex , cabin 8 was arguing, we could hear every word, when they got there after bar closing. Our bed was full of hair. Ick. No phone to call front desk. Went out on our deck, the man in cabin 6 was also out on his. No privacy. Air smelled of sewage. Ick. Next day we moved. Cabin 1 has no screen door. The bed sucked. Basically a pad on top of board. Cars and people pass by within 10 feet of front door. Coffee cups dirty. The insects inside cabin were terrible. Maybe they came from the crack under the door. I think the mattress is over due to be thrown out.

At the risk of sounding like Gordon Ramsey from "Hotel Hell", you may want to consider booking elsewhere. The lodge is located about two miles from the main highway on a passable dirt road. However, the cabins are located uphill on poorly maintained "roads" that aren't suitable for many sedans.
Our cabin (#2) was clean but the fly swatted came in handy. The view of the lake was awesome but the fishing pond was nearly drained and the remaining water was fetid. The mattress was cheap and squeaked. Complimentary coffee was available in the room but all of the cups were dirty.
We had a drink on the patio that overlooks the beautiful lake. The nachos we ordered were huge and tasty. Later, we had dinner in well appointed dining room. My wife and I both ordered pasta. It was okay. On the plus side, a beaver swam by while we were eating.
Breakfast isn't served I the restaurant so we had to drive nine miles into town. When we tried to check out at 8:00 this morning, the door to the lodge was locked so I had to enter the lobby through a side service entry.
Overall, our visit was a disappointment.

We were excited to stay at such a beautiful spot, lake, pines, gorgeous. But.....the room, although clean, had a horrible bed. We both tossed and turned and were up by 5 because the bed was so miserable. Headed down to dinner later and every dish we had was expensive and nasty! Won't be going back

This is an amazing resort, it has something for the whole family. The chef here is wonderful and the view from the restaurant is spectacular. We also did a dinner cruise on the boat, which was truly one of a kind. Great staff, wonderful place. Couldn't ask for a better getaway in such a beautiful state!
