Right from the minute we were picked up at the hotel till we were dropped off at the airport, our experience was exceptional. My husband and I stayed in the beautiful Josephine cabin, that overlooks the Flat Creek. Horseback riding, fly fishing and hiking was excellent, but boy did we love the hot tub and sauna after our long days of playing. The food that Adam prepared for us was out of this world. From all the different places we have visited around the world, the attention to detail and service was second to none. We have already booked for next year and would like to thank the staff - Trey, Shelby, Dani, Scott, Jamie, Nick, Ang, Connor, Leo, Robb, Adam and Adam for the best vacation we have ever had.
What a treat! The staff were amazing, the cabins very nice (including a Yeti filled with all sorts of drinks), and the food was fantastic. We had a great horseback ride - not a nose to tail ride at all -and learned to fly fish on Flat Creek. They give you equipment and you can go whenever you wish. Guided hikes are offered and you can hike on your own (there's bear spray in each cabin). Canoe or paddle board on the beautiful little lake. Worth every penny. I'd love to go again.
My family (wife, two boys 13 & 15, and I) had an amazing trip to the Flat Creek Ranch in late June. A ranch trip was on our family vacation bucket list, and we chose this one because of the beautiful, unique setting and reviews. I also liked how we could spend less than a full week -- which allowed us to spend time in Jackson before driving to the ranch. This was a totally new travel experience and budget level....and totally worth it. I'll touch on a few things: Lodging: Staying in cabins with over 100 year old history was fascinating. They were obviously rustic but restored to a pristine, even luxurious, condition. The Cissy Cabin was perfect for our family. Check out Google Maps for 360 images of several cabins and grounds. Activities: After visiting the busy national parks, it was refreshing to hike with only our small group. Staff & horses made for a very chill and enjoyable ride. We liked the lake watercraft (SUPS, kayaks, canoes, etc.). Finally, fishing was good, though if you want a more guaranteed catch, you may want a guided session. People: The staff (Trey, Shelby, Dani, Scott, Daniel, etc. and guests were wonderful. We enjoyed the friendly and relaxed vibe among everyone. My wife was dealing with long-haul Covid/mono, and they made special accommodations to ensure that she had a wonderful stay. She truly felt cared for by all of the staff (with a special shout-out to Dani). Dining/Lodge: It was an amazing treat to walk a few steps to the lodge (no car, no UTV, no cart) where we were spoiled by Chef Daniel!!! Not only is he a fabulous and creative cook, but he is also a good guy who makes you feel connected to the food experience. It's worth knowing that meals are eaten with the guests and hosts (so about 16 people gather around two tables). That was a new experience for us, and we enjoyed it. Service: Small touches like coffee dropped at our cabin in the AM. Sending a pre-trip questionnaire to allow you to share preferences (e.g. food allergies or food requests). Tips: Stay in Jackson 2-3 nights ahead of your visit. You'll be in the groove & used to the altitude. They provide great concierge recommendations for the surrounding area. Highly recommend FCR!!!!!…
This place is simply wonderful. Flat Creek Ranch ticked all the boxes for us. Great food, locally sourced, inventive, we were never hungry (check!), direct, unlimited access to fishing on a private creek and stunning lake (check!), top notch service with unforgettable personality (check!), small in size but big on inclusive amenities, fishing, hiking, horses, and more (check!), elegant yet charming (check!)… Flat Creek Ranch absolutely exceeded our expectations. We plan to return someday soon!
My Husband and I were blessed with best cabin there. Josephine. We had a view from bedroom of lake and mountains. I enjoyed watching an Osprey scoop down and grab a fish and be chased by bald eagle one morning. On a group hike to Teton Overlook we saw an incredible Mule Deer. Our first night at the ranch we were spoiled with dinner under the stars, taking in the lake while enjoying best Lamb and chicken we have ever had in our lives. Spoiled by all the creative fresh meals every day. Staff were polite and friendly. Cabins were clean and stocked.
My husband and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary at the ranch. We took the advice and did a few days exploring the parks and the town of Jackson prior to arrival at the ranch. The ranch exceeded our expectations. Great attention to detail like wildflowers on the morning coffee tray and a personal note accompanying a bottle of champagne was truly special. Daniel’s food is something I will never forget. Unforgettable horseback riding, hiking, and fishing. Thank you trey, Shelby, Daniel, tor, Jamie, munch, and the rest of the crew for a wonderful stay. We are referring all of our friends and family.
We had an amazing time at Flat Creek Ranch!! Booking was easy and Dani answered any/all questions for me via email before arriving. We took advantage of everything we could during our stay. We started off with 2 nights at the back country camp with Nick and Scott. It was a blast! Scott led us on a ~1.5 hour trail ride. Nick greeted us at camp where everything was set up. The two of them took care of everything for us...guiding us on a fantastic hike, making delicious food (ribs, breakfast burritos, buffalo bolognese, etc), and being all around fun hosts! Awesome time! We rode the horses back to the ranch and stayed in the Josephine cabin for 3 nights. Josephine cabin was excellent - we had such great views of the lake and the creek. It was clean and well-kept. We used the wash room to shower instead of the bathtub in the cabin — easy, clean, no issues. We wanted to learn to fly fish and Dani rearranged the whole schedule so that we could learn from Brad in the morning and fish all day. Brad was an amazing guide — he was patient and encouraging. In the end we wound up catching a bunch of fish (this place really is magical). The next day we hiked up the Sleeping Indian. Scott was the best guide we could ask for! He is really knowledgeable and answered any and all questions we had. He pointed out different plants, edible berries to try along the way and any wildlife that popped up (like big horn sheep). He even took photos of us completing the hike. It was a tough climb but he made it really enjoyable for us! Overall, this place felt like the breath of fresh air we needed. The atmosphere and most importantly the people are what makes this place special — everyone goes above and beyond. There are a lot of little things that they did - from coffee in the morning, to book recommendations, singing (Jamie) and playing the fiddle (John), delicious food (Marco), and just asking how our activities were— that made us never want to leave. Thanks so much to Trey, Shelby, Dani!, Scott, Nick, Brad, Jamie, John, Munch, and Marco!! This was our first trip out, but will definitely not be our last. …
Flat Creek Ranch will exceed your expectations. My husband and I stayed in the Josephine cabin July 27-31 and also did the two night camping experience prior to our ranch stay July 25-27. The ranch itself is in a stunning setting with the Flat Creek rushing by most of the cabins. There is also a beautiful lake right there and many lovely trails through woods when you go horseback riding. The setting could not be lovelier. The cabins (only 5! ) are spotless and beautiful. "Josephine" has, hands down, the best view with a lake front view from the front porch and a side porch/balcony over looking Flat creek below. The cabins are beautifully decorated and larger and better appointed than they look on the website. If you're from Chicago like I am, you'll love the history of the place with a tie back to Joseph Medill of the Chicago Tribune. The story alone of the Countess and the Cowboy is so much fun. The food is excellent (kudos to Chef Danny!) and exceeded our expectations as well. They call it "Fat Creek Ranch" and I can see why. The food was varied, fresh and of the highest quality. I loved the little touches like - coffee delivered to our cabin every morning at 7:15am. The tray even had a small vase of flowers. You can go horseback riding, learn how to fly fish (fantastic and hire the great fishing guide Brad), hike or just relax and read in your gorgeous cabin. We also enjoyed our two night camping experience in the beginning of our stay. The camping site and meadows filled with wildflowers nearby will stay with me forever as will the wonderful family we met (shout out to the Eichbergs) along with Sarah and Nick from Flat Creek. The staff is super friendly and hard working and we loved them all. Thank you Shelby, Trey, Dan, Nick, Sam, Sarah, Munch and everyone else who made our vacation one of the best we have ever taken (and we travel alot!). This property is great for couples, families or even a girls or guys group wanting to get away. Faye Z.…
So this is a special place. 6 miles up an unpaved road, at the base of the sleeping Indian, there really isn't a more beautiful spot. Sitting on your porch looking out over the rushing creek, or riding your horse through dense woods opening onto crystal clear lakes, with no one else around, hiking up a steep hill to reach the top and the majestic view of the tetons beyond. Really no place like this. You kinda can't believe it's as lovely as it is. The team that runs the place is top notch, from Trey and Shelby on down, couldn't be more helpful/friendly. Brad took my son out fly fishing, couldn't have been more patient, one of the highlights of the trip. And the food is really amazing; Daniel makes magic in the kitchen at every meal. One breakfast he produced the 2 best breakfast foods - chilaquiles AND blueberry pancakes - at the same meal. Really THE SAME MEAL. And the history of the place is fascinating and adds to the magic (the story is on the website, but there are books at the ranch about the founder that my wife devoured). If you get a chance, go to Flat Creek Ranch. You won't forget it or regret it, and will feel privileged to have experienced this truly special place.…
Our family of four just came back from a road trip to Grand Teton and Yellowstone that was kicked off with a 3-night stay at Flat Creek Ranch. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to stay here. You couldn’t ask for a more picture-perfect setting! Everything about our stay was perfect. Our family loves to be in beautiful places outdoors but we are not really the “roughing it” types. Flat Creek Ranch was perfect for us. Our cabin (the Cissy cabin) was very clean, the beds incredibly comfortable, the bathroom was perfect, the towels were fluffy and the custom soap and bath salts were a nice touch. Our cabin had plenty of room for the four of us with a twin day bed with trundle for the kids and a queen size bed for my husband and me. The cabin even had a small kitchenette though there is no cooking in the cabin. We got to be in an incredibly beautiful spot that would otherwise have been inaccessible to us and yet, we had a toilet, a shower and a comfortable bed each night! The chef that was there for our stay was Marco. We all wish that we could take him home with us. Every single meal was over the top delicious: perfectly cooked salmon, grilled pork chops with the tastiest seasoning, salads so good that our teenage son and daughter devoured them, oysters that were shipped in overnight served both baked and raw, locally grown beef that made for perfectly cooked steak, scrambled eggs for breakfast perfectly cooked and like nothing we have ever had before. We could go on... And when you reserve your spot you are asked about food preferences, which the team at Flat Creek really do take into account. Our daughter doesn’t like salmon and instead, they provided her with delicious chicken. Each day starts with your breakfast beverage of choice (we had coffee, hot chocolate and tea) served on a tray outside the door of your cabin, announced with a knock at 7:15. If you want to sleep in you can request the night before that breakfast be provided in your cabin the next morning. Otherwise breakfast is in the lodge at 8. Lunch was packed for us for our horseback ride and for those going on the hike. Dinner was at 7 each night starting with your beverage of choice. Included in our stay was a half day horseback ride. We are essentially beginners on horses but we felt completely comfortable even though the terrain at times seemed a bit daunting. “Lean forward, it’s a steep uphill” or “Lean back, it’s a steep downhill”! My daughter and I also opted for an additional ride on Sunday while husband and son went on the half day hike. Everywhere we went was just beautiful! We tried fly-fishing for the first time at Flat Creek. We spent the afternoon with Trey on the creek. He made it look so easy! Though we all caught something, we laughed about how it was really Trey catching it and us looking good bringing the fish in and holding it for a picture. He was so patient with us and made sure we all had a great time. The other thing that we appreciated about the ranch is the option to stay for something less than a full week. Being able to couple the stay at the ranch with a visit to both Grand Teton and Yellowstone was only possible with having the option for a 3-night stay, which most of the other ranches do not provide. Though this does make for more work for the ranch, it was definitely something that worked out well for our trip planning. Flat Creek Ranch is not only a special place but it is a place with special people. Our visit started with Joe on the phone to confirm the logistics of our arrival and then we met Marsha at the meeting point for our Covid temperature check. The dedication of Trey and Shelby to the ranch is clear, especially in this season where they and their staff have had to work so much harder to deal with Covid while ensuring that their guests have an incredible experience. Munch showed up with water bottles for our drive in (more on that below), Dani was so welcoming at orientation and was always there at the lodge with a smile, Brad was so helpful during the fishing clinic and Jamie was great leading the trail ride (and make sure to ask her to sing and play the piano for you!). We’re sorry if we have left anyone out. We’re so grateful to everyone at Flat Creek for making our stay so special! A few thoughts re Covid: The staff always wore masks and gloves when serving food. Everyone had to have their temperature checked and a Covid questionnaire and waiver signed before heading to the ranch. We didn’t wear masks when outside when social distancing was possible. The small size of the guests (no more than 14) and the attention of the staff made us feel completely safe. Two tips: First, make sure you bring strong bug spray; Flat Creek does provide it, as well as sunscreen and bear spray but we probably needed something stronger to keep the bugs away. Second, we drove ourselves to the ranch and in hindsight, we would not have done it again. We had an SUV but it was a crossover (a QX60) and the road to the ranch is ROUGH. As we were driving out there, we were getting pretty nervous and kind of regretted our decision to drive. Our advice is to save yourself the anxiety and either leave your car in town or park it at “midway”, unload all your stuff into one of the ranch’s Suburbans and let the pros do the driving. Thank you again Flat Creek Ranch!…
