From the moment I arrived the world was a better place! Fresh air, horses, mountains, cozy cabins and gourmet food...what else could a body need....yoga in the pavilion , laps in the pool and a lovely glass of wine. Fly fishing and an afternoon watching ranch polo topped off my 3 days. It was a quick respite from the world as it is but next time I’ll be staying the week. Accommodations are cozy and well appointed and they even have WiFi if you must! The wranglers and guides are all delightful and knowledgeable. Can’t say enough good things!
Stayed one week at Red Rock Ranch and all the aspects I was hoping for to be good, turned out better quality and beyond my expectations: safe and fun horses, friendly, genuinely caring staff, comfy bed, sparkling clean cabin, pool and hot tub and the most delicious food for every meal and snack, I felt cared for, cared about and included in a high quality adventure program that could not have been better in any way! 5 Stars and a big Thank You to everyone at RRR!!!
My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week in August - seeking an escape from NYC and some quality outdoor time. I figured we'd do some hiking but the wranglers led such great day rides we opted for horse riding almost all day every day. Two days we did packed lunch rides on various trails - and other days we did morning and afternoon rides, all on different routes. The surrounding landscape provides so much variety and the views from your cabin, the lodge where meals are held, and the barn are just spectacular. We stayed in the Navajo room and loved the books in our room about the ranch and the flora and fauna of the region. It's a very personalized experienced - the family who runs this is invested in making sure you are having a great time, as well as keeping the horses and you safe. You can ask for more greens in your meals (I added veggies to a morning omelet) and they accommodated my gluten-free diet well. The BBQs are probably the best meals. This is a great place for families with kids (probably ages 6-12 as the sweet spot, but they say 4 year olds able to ride a bike are welcome to come too). However, we were one of 2 couples that week without children and it was great they had smaller group rides without the kids and some meal times without kids as well. I highly recommend Red Rock! The setting is amazing, the facilities well maintained and the staff are fabulous - many of the wranglers and other staff have had various careers and are quite accomplished humble folks. The conversations on our rides were memorable and the attentiveness throughout the week very much appreciated. Just go!…
This summer we had to escape the heat, escape the backyard, the forced homeschooling, the N95 mask all day at work... you know the chaos of 2020. Wyoming is very familiar to us, so we thought, "why not?" Red Rock Ranch (RRR) was close enough for us to drive. With our 6 year-old and 9 year-old in tow, we trekked across Idaho into Jackson (yikes! all the tourists are there for sure!) and into the Wind River Range. Red Rock Ranch was exactly what we needed, a world away from our crazy lives. Always westerners, we weren't sure about being "dudes" but, RRR wasn't so much about that. Red Rock Ranch is a place with a culture of kindness and simplicity. Sure, they have got the trail rides, private lessons to increase your skills, and even team penning. We are well traveled with these kiddos and RRR was the most relaxing vacation EVER (caveat with kids) . No dropping them off at some glorified daycare center at the resort hotel, no crowded lines for bad food or fights for lounge chairs at the pool. However, you want to bring kids that are at least 6 years old so that they can ride. Besides the outrageous beauty of the place (horse country and the Wind River Range), it's the people that own the ranch and work there that will knock you over with how friendly they are. You can tell it's inherent in their nature, not just an act for the job. Scott Cooney, the manager and his wife Freda Nicole will blow you away with their experience and how charming they are. Every crevice is clean and well cared for. Well prepared and friendly is how I would describe every wrangler... just world class people. Chole, Jayden, Ellery, Mary Grace (kid wranglers) Nicole, and Maddy were sold...nuff' said. Russell Stimmel, the coral boss/jefe was knowledgeable, funny and always on point/organized getting the riders off the ground and on the trails. The food was undeniably Western and really good. There was no shortage of second helpings. I hope you like homemade cobbler! The dining and kitchen staff were top notch and never batted an eye at making something special for a little dude having a rough time or a picky pallette (off menu! just ask). The horses were well mannered and well taken care of. Joe Mac Stimmel, the resident fishing guide, taught me to cast flies. I caught and landed two fish in my first two hours on the river. Lets say mu husband could never teach me that and now I'm hooked. I loved that I never connected my Wi-Fi even though there is one in the dining area/lodge. There is no cell service...maybe that is why its sooo relaxing. But you should keep your laptop at home! I do recommend bringing some warmer clothes for the night and in the morning as you get a little chilly up at altitude. The sun is also intense in the afternoon, so bring a button down with some SPF, wide brimmed hat and some SPF chapstick and sunscreen. The hospitality of the Stimmel family was incredible. Harley and his wife Carolyn were always around checking on things. Harley even took the kids out on a ride and then told a campfire story about their antics. He knew EVERY little dude's name. Now that's incredible. Their four grown boys work on the ranch and they are as nice as can be. Ever present Steven Stimmel kept the office, photos and day to day needs handled smoothly and Jake Stimmel is in charge of running the day to day Ag of the ranch. Watching all the family go at it during a short polo chucker was great fun. So, basically this is a warm outstanding crew of people. The culture of the this place exceeds the majestic beauty and iconic western landscape. People make this place for sure. So the real question is, "How do I get back to Red Rock Ranch?" Hint: I'm booking again for next year.…
Special place! Owners and staff are warm and caring and their sole goal is to make sure guests are safe, comfortable, and having fun. We had only a short visit (3 days), but they helped us pack in a full experience in that time - gorgeous horseback rides in the Tetons, fly fishing lessons, horse vaulting lessons for kids, a hilariously wacky cattle sorting and penning contest, cocktails over a family polo match (the family are pros, so they really put on a show!), and delicious meals. All in this incredible, remote setting flanked by bright red cliffs, green bluffs, the majestic Tetons nearby, and incredible glaciers peeking out from behind the mountains. I was particularly impressed with how understanding and gentle every single wrangler and trip leader was. I'm afraid of heights and was considering not riding because many of the trails are up and down hills and mountains. But they were wonderful to me, listening to my concern, checking in frequently, modifying ride routes, and giving me strategies so I could make myself comfortable while enjoying really special time with my family. Two thumbs way up. We can't wait to go back.…
