Detailed Reviews
Everything about our stay was satisfactory except the coffee maker was right next to the toilet. Why???? I’m not about to make and drink coffee where who knows how many people have sat and taken a dump. Many jokes could be made about having a coffee maker next to the toilet but I won’t go down that road. When I asked the woman at the front desk (very nicely) about it she acted like she couldn’t be troubled with it and didn’t even get out of her chair to come talk to me. You need to do better National 9!

Pleasantly surprised to get free breakfast at their restaurant for booking online. Easy access to room by parking in front of exit door. Comfortable beds. Bathroom tight quarters. Clean but could use some updates. No iron or hairdryer. Coffee in the lobby 24/7. Best price paid in a week. Extremely nice front desk lady.

I stayed at the National 9 Inn in Gillette for five days in June of 2005. The rates were reasonable for the type of motel. The inn is older and has that look. The service was friendly and helpful. I shared a room with my daughter so we had two queen beds. The beds were comfortable. The room had a microwave and small fridge. Great additions when traveling with kids. The room we stayed in reeked of smoke eventhough it was supposed to be non-smoking. The entire motel had a heavy smoke smell to it. I went out and bought air fresheners for our room which helped. The attatched reasturant is very small and not very good. The service was poor, the food mediocre, and you sat in a haze of smoke. The hotel offers an incentive of a free breakfast. You definitely want to pass!! The hotel is on the edge of town and frequented by truck drivers. It is a little noisy at night. If I was on a budget, I would stay again.

Do not stay here! The rooms are very very dirty snd the area is seedy! We checked in and 5 min later checked out. We had 10 people in our party , 4 rooms booked and they were all disgusting! They need to tear this hotel down. The front desk was nice about our refund. We ended up going to The Ramada inn and found out The National 9 is known as the Nasty 9.

My wife and I recently stayed at this hotel on a hunting trip. We had made reservations over the phone a month before our arrival, because we stayed there the previous year and the room we had was acceptable, but did smell like smoke. We arrived and got our room keys, and upon checking in the first thing we noticed was the wood trim on the stairs was sticking out with nails and screws pulled out which could lead to a kid getting hurt pretty easily, wall paper is peeling off, debris in the hallways, the sink faucets and tub drains were rusty and the deadbolt wouldn't hold anything as all the wood around it was broken, the light-switches were filthy and broken, the floor heater was dirty and broken(metal end cap had fallen off and was bent) and it was super hot in there. We remembered that from the prior year which was why I had requested an upstairs room so you can open the windows at night to cool the place down. The thermostat did not work nor did it in last years stay. Once settled in we noticed hair on the sheets and blood stains on the sheet. Upon further inspection the mattress has a blood stain about 8 inches long and 4 inches wide in two different spots. We ended up staying on a cot we had brought along because the beds were so filthy. We didn't want to stay the first night but had already paid so we didn't have a choice, but in less than 30 minutes after arriving at the national 9 we had checked in at the Country inn and suites down the road for $20 more a night (and we got a good breakfast which was worth the extra 20) then the national 9 for the rest of our stay. We took pictures of everything and left a nice comment card but I imagine it will be thrown out by Eva, the "housekeeper". I would not stay here EVER again, we stayed there because in 2010 it was acceptable, not great. After this stay there is not a chance we would go back. When I checked out and cancelled the remaining 5 days stay and explained the situation, the lady at the front was nice, but said the bloody mattress and sheets was a "maintenance issue", not a "housekeeper issue", and she said she hopes we will stay with them in the future. I am sorry, if things are bloody housekeeping needs to inform maintenance about it so it can be fixed the same day! Spend your money somewhere else, this hotel does not care. The only positive thing about this hotel is the ice maker is big for those on hunting trips, and the tv's are nice. For EVERYTHING else go somewhere else. I cant believe this place passes state inspections, here in WI this place would be condemned and shut down.

I was surprised to find out that others review was so positive, when this Inn has to be one of the worst I have ever seen. The ourside of the Inn should have been a clue as to the inside, but was too exhausted. Te inside was very disapointing. The room had an odor that was undescribeable. Towels were grey, when should have been white. The bed was old. The showere head was for a short person, so if your tall you will have to scrunch down. The place is in desperate need of an update. I would not recommend this Inn. Stay away!

I stayed in this hotel multiple nights on a company account. The first few nights were not bad other than a poorly cleaned room. Was back a few days later and got a room 2 doors down from the original and it was much worse than the first. I was willing to overlook the poor quality of cleaning due to the fact that is where my company had an account, but shortly after being in the room and sitting on the bed I saw a bug crawling at me. I caught it and took a closer look and found out it was a bed bug, so I removed the sheets from each bed and thoroughly inspected the beds and found more bed bugs. I promptly Checked out and slept in my truck. I understand that bed bugs can happen in any establishment but adding that to an already dirty room was pretty bad!

I wasn't too sure about staying at this particular hotel because of the area but im glad I chose it! I went online and found many nicer "chain" hotels available at a much higher cost. I booked a queen non smoking room and when I got there the desk clerk was very nice and pleasant and even upgraded my room to the king for the same price. I was given a coupon for a free full breakfast the following morning. It was great...I had the biscuits (2) and gravy which came with hashbrowns and coffee. I also ordered 2 eggs over easy. It wasn't greasy and was very tasty! The waitress was very nice. I had dinner the night before....again the food was good (had a steak, baked potato, veges, soup and salad! The bar area was busy ... appeared to be regulars ( are tender used their names) and they were friendly and included me in conversations (even though they didn't know I was an out of Townsend or a local). There have been reviews of the lobby and halls smelling like smoke --- I never experienced it. The room was very clean, very comfortable bed and very clean bathroom. I would definetly recommend staying here to my family and friends and would definitely stay there again! Thank you for a pleasant stay!

We were traveling through Gillette headed to south dakota and just needed a place to sleep. We stumbled upon the The National 9 Inn and we were very pleased with our stay. Not only were the prices very affordable but we had a very comfortable room. The room was clean and neat and the beds were super comfy. I have read some of the previous reviews and did not encounter any problems with a bad room. The desk staff were also very friendly and we were close to a lot of options for food and shopping. When we come through again this is where we will be staying from now on. Thank you for a great stay! We'll for sure be back!

We do not usually review hotels visited but after booking the National and then reading the negative Tripadvisor reviews we were rather apprehensive as to what we would find.
Fortunately we we had a very good stay at the hotel. Our NS room had a microwave and frid. and was spacious and well appointed. We could not smell smoke in our room but did in the hallway. I think we had booked one of the last rooms thus our NS was next to smoking rooms. However, the hotel did block Ns rooms next to each other.
Our breakfast was included and was not an issue. We asked and were presented with a voucher to use in the restaurant. We had a selection of 4 or 5 breakfast choices plus coffee and milk or juice. I had bacon and eggs.
Lots of parking and easy to drive downtown for dinner. Front was glassed in making it comfortable to walk to ones room.
True there was smoking in the restaurant but remember Wyoming does not have a smoke free state policy yet. And the hallways could use an updating but over all the hotel was clean. A towel/rag is offered to remove mud from boots and vehicles in an attempt to keep or to reduce the amount tracked into the hotel. Seems to be that hunters are booked into the hotel and return with muddy boots and trucks. If the hotel was not of a good quality I'm sure Outfitters would not book their clients into the hotel as a satisfied client will return.
The room was of good value and below our average hotel prices we paid on our nineteen day holiday visiting Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore.
We would stay here again.
