I came across this hotel when looking for a stopping point in a drive across Wyoming and I’m so glad that I did. What a lovely lovely place. We loved our room. It was very comfortable. Bed and linens were superb and the bath and shower were great. Very comfortable. We enjoyed dinner in the restaurant and Lauren, our server, was wonderful. The steak and salmon were both wonderful as was the shrimp and French onion soup. Kudos to the chef. We enjoyed breakfast in the morning and the French toast was out of this world good! It’s a bit off the beaten path, but if you are in the area, please go and visit The Historic Elk Mountain Hotel. You will not regret it!

$170 per night. The rooms walls are super thin and you can hear even the quietest conversations from adjoining rooms. There is a gap under the door to the hallway that is about 3 inches allowing a lot of light in. They only give you one key, and it is required for you to lock the door to the hotel's main doors as you leave, meaning if you leave with your wife still in the room, you either have to leave her without a key or you have to have her follow you to lock the doors and then make sure she's there to unlock to let you in. The rules in their guest book state that you are not allowed to bring any outside food to the hotel, though they require a reservation if you decide you want to eat breakfast or dinner with them. The beds are INCREDIBLY uncomfortable. I felt like their attitude was that I was lucky to be able to stay there instead of them being happy that I chose to stay there.

We contacted the manager of the Historic Elk Mountain Hotel early in the afternoon on a Monday in late July. Although the website had indicated there were no rooms available, we were told there were so we arrived just in time for dinner that night. The chef had come in on his day off to cook for us and the meal was excellent! After a little fishing in the river behind the hotel and enjoying some wine on the porch, the staff all left and we were the ONLY guests for the night! The hotel is very comfortable and full of fascinating history! The next morning, we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast (the BEST French toast I have ever eaten!) and bid our hosts farewell. The area around Elk Mountain is stunning! Do ride through the Medicine Bow National Forest for breathtaking views! I highly recommend this hotel and we will certainly return!

This was our halfway point on a trip from Montana to Southern Colorado. We liked it so much we stopped there again on our way home. The food, atmosphere, and staff are a pleasure. There is nothing like it for hundreds of miles.

Traveling from Michigan to Oregon we were looking for unique places to stay and this one fit the bill in early March 2020. We were the first guests after the hotel was shut down for some reason for a month. If you like antique stuff, you will like this place. Very comfortable and it was in transition from one owner to another, all very nice folks. Food was absolutely excellent (not included with your stay). No liquor license at that time, but they did provide ice and you could bring your own bottle so no problems there. Posters on the second floor corridor were from the 1948-58 period when the hotel brought in big bands to play for the locals.

Thank you so much for your review! We enjoyed having you, and appreciate your patience during our transition period. Shortly after your stay we received our liquor license, so no need to bring your own anymore. Cheers!
