Home for 4 days now, and I'm sitting here trying to come up with words as to how to describe what I experienced at The Lazy L&B Ranch. You can't put it precisely INTO words. You just have to go. The others reviews are great, but notice how long they are! All trying to describe this life-giving experience. I'm at loss as to how to thank Deb, Jason, their daughters and staff for what they've established and gave us last week. It was like going home. They presented the scripture of nature in a place lost to time, where days felt like two or three. The community, conversation and the magnetic presence of the area draws you in. The food was hands down incredible and added to the ambiance. Thank you Lazy L&B Ranch family for an unforgettable experience. I can't wait to come back! If you're searching and came across this review - just stop your search, and commit. You won't regret it.

An exceptional place to have the experience of a lifetime. We love it so much that it is our 4th stay as a family and we are already planning our next stay. We love the location of the ranch that allows a great diversity of trail rides through rivers, valleys, forests, canyons and mountains, riding with views that stretched endlessly in every direction, without any sign of human presence. We love how the Halmays family is able to create a very special atmosphere, with all the staff gently taking care of us. The quality of the food and the lodging is great. If your looking for a western experience riding you should really consider it. If you want to read more about the ranch and Wyoming, there was a recent article in the New York Times that speaks about the ranch by Claire Thomas.

Only because this place is so amazing I don't want more people to know about it and to fill it up! But then again, the owners have created such a quality place it would be a crime to not give them their due. Frankly, all the other 5 star reviews highlight everything that I would - the food, the wranglers, the setting, the horses, the cabins, etc. I would note a few extra things - great wine! First off, Deb and Jason have hand curated an amazing selection of wine (for purchase, with very modest markup however) - I was worried I'd have to drink crappy wine all week, instead I was imbibing on all my favorites in an amazing setting with amazing people - what a surprise. Secondly, there is a "light separation" of the kids from the adults early on - my kids (13/14) have always been very reluctant to do "kids camp" type stuff - this time? I barely saw them! They loved the kids activities, the independence of going to the petting zoo, the river, etc - they were just gone and doing it - sooooo great. Lastly, the overall "cadence" of the place is great, with maximum flexibility for length of rides, time for yourself, whatever. We did plenty of hikes on our own, I did a daily cold bath in the river with friends I had met, enjoyed the Internet in the main house (but equally enjoyed not having it in my room - a sort of mini-digital detox). Things I was worried about ended up not being worries - very few bugs, very dry so no humidity and room temps were good despite no AC. If you're a coffee snob (which I am), it might not be strong enough coffee that is served for you. Also, if you're sensitive to water smell the well water is a bit like well water - so I'd pick up a 24 pack of bottled water before to stock your in-room fridge. But other than that, no real issues. So many awesome things to say. It was a unanimous vote from our very well traveled family that this was the best vacation we had ever been on. Can't wait to go back.

There is so much to say about this enchanting location. The vistas are gorgeous, the accommodations are cozy, and the people are incredibly welcoming. The horses were well cared for and reliable. I would be remiss if I did not mention that the food was incredible at each and every meal. It is like being at family camp. You are given a schedule of events and all you have to do is show up. We had been looking forward to a dude ranch vacation since our children were small. This hit all of the boxes. The kids got to experience riding and other activities and gain a sense of independence. We adults got to enjoy our freedom and drink in the beauty of this special place. The rangers are professional and approachable. They were willing to accommodate some special needs within our party. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this unique opportunity to make memories as a family.

This was a long sought-after trip and was excited about the chance to do a Dude Ranch. I did a lot of research on all the ranches around the area and felt that the L&B provided the best mix of activities and hospitalities. My wife and I loved the entire week. The staff, including the owners, Deb and Jason, were always around and going above and beyond to make sure everyone was enjoying themselves. Each horse ride brought new breathtaking views, and the wrangles were knowledgable and accommodating. Each meal was incredible - even the packed lunches left you full and impressed. You could tell they cared deeply for the horses and all the other animals on the farm. Would highly recommend going to the Square Dance that is held in town during the summer. If you are on the fence of going here, don't hesitate - this was an incredible trip!

Last June my daughter and I took a father daughter trip to the Lazy L and B ranch. From the minute we arrived we enjoyed the professionalism from the owners and staff. You could really tell that the three daughters had been taught the importance of hard work and service to their guests. Summer, Felicity, and Julia were great working to accommodate all of the guest needs and wishes when it came to the different rides and activities. The wranglers were very friendly and the views were amazing on the daily rides. Another highlight was the great food and fellowship at the nightly dinners as well as meeting guests from all over the world. It was great spending time with my daughter and getting away the from crazy daily schedules of life and we hope to make it back soon.

We felt welcome from the moment we arrived. Everyone was extraordinarily friendly and professional. The team did an outstanding job pairing us with our horses for the week. The trail rides were along scenic routes and no two were the same. We had plenty of chances to spread out on the rides so we weren’t just nose to tail. The food was consistently excellent - especially the fireside meals. The cabins were comfortable and well maintained with small refrigerators and Wi-Fi (which you may find yourself not needing). An excellent trip and unlike any other vacation. We plan on returning.

From being greeted by Deb as we pulled in, to every single employee, the staff is awesome. The best!!! Caring, warm, informative, friendly and welcoming. I felt invited into their home. Enjoyed the cozy, lower number of guests feel. The food:: 5 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ It doesn’t get much better. Family style to sit down bison tenderloin. Happy hours great. Even the sack lunch for the all day ride was great!! Thank you chef, and the sous chef who made sure he was seen and available at all times. Most gratitude to Andrea who graciously took care of everyone’s needs with ease and charm. Cabins ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ are cozy with top of line bedding & towels, roomy and each with a rocking chair porch, listening to the river running. Ride scenery varies depending on which direction you head. Dessert, mesa, canyon, mountains. Brandon was a favorite.despite the ranch rules to ride nose to tail for hours. He kept it safe & easy going but you didn’t feel like an elementary kid. Great at answering questions and proving info. Only disappointment is that rides were single file, nose to tail, walk, walk, walk. Only 1-2 stars ⭐️for riding. Again, horses nose to tail, single file at a walk all the time!! Not the most fun for anyone who knows how to ride even a little bit.Often felt like riding the grocery store electric pony. Other than riding and eating, not a whole lot more to do so plan to relax. They had a short fly fishing, rifle, roping hour activity and there was corn hole and a hot tub. Would have loved a mini guest ridden rodeo where we actually got to interact with our horses. Ride or hike to point out native flowers, trees and wildlife. employee ridden competition, more horse interaction. Food, lodging, scenery, employees, Deb, Jason & family and horses, many thanks!! Hate that the actual rides were one of the biggest disappointments. Matching the riders experience to the rides ( length of rides, scenery and topography ease/ difficulty, level of actually being able to “ride”) would help make the entire experience one of the top. “Welcome to our home and enjoy your stay” they hit on the mark! A week for an average to experienced rider? might be disappointed because you don’t really ride. Value for your money? Yes.

Response from Deb Halmay, Owner at The Lazy L&B Ranch
Responded Jun 20, 2022
Sandy, Thanks for taking the time to highlight what you enjoyed about your time at the ranch in addition to letting us know that you found the riding disappointing. We wish you would have mentioned it to us while you were here so we could have given you a better experience. As Jason says at the safety demonstration, we want you to let us know if there is anything we can do to make your time at the ranch better and we will do our best to make it happen. We would have been happy to have you grooming and loving on the horses if you’d let us know that you wanted to interact with them more and it would have been no problem to put you on a ride with a bit of trotting and/or loping if you had let us know that was something you wanted to do. We appreciate your feedback as there are opportunities to spread out on rides where the terrain allows so we revisited this with the wranglers to make sure they are letting guests know where and when they can step out of line if they’d like to. Thanks again for taking the time to write a review and we’re sorry that you didn’t enjoy the riding at the ranch.

Our family of 4 (mom, dad, 18 and 9 year olds) visited Lazy L&B the in late May/early June 2022. We were hoping for a week of family bonding and adventure. The Lazy L&B delivered that and more! We arrived in late May, greeted by unseasonably cold and wet weather. The ranch is about 11 miles down a dirt road far off the beaten path in Dubois, WY. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Julia and Deb and assigned our cabins. Our cabins shared an ample front porch, with each "side" providing exceptionally comfortable accommodations and a private bath. The girls took one side (2 twin beds) and we took the other (one King). Each cabin was casually appointed and equipped with its own space heater. After checking in, we moseyed down to the corral for horse assignment and saddle/stirrup setting. The first night included a happy hour, with the opportunity to meet other families (there were about 20 of us in total that week). We lucked out with a group of about 7 children age ranges from 4 - 11. The kids enjoyed campfire dinner with the wranglers and the adults enjoyed a scrumptious dinner of bison tenderloin in the lodge. The food...oh my. The ranch's chef and sous chef prepared fresh, delicious meals 3 times daily, including breakfast, lunch and dinner. Other reviews don't give this nearly enough emphasis. I have traveled the world, but the meals at Lazy L&B were consistently above and beyond any I had ever enjoyed! Even the sack lunches provided for all day rides were delicious (including turkey sandwiches on homemade bread, Italian sandwich with olive tapenade, etc.). Thanks again to Jonathan and John! The children immediately bonded, and after dinner enjoyed board games and mingling at the lodge until bedtime. On all remaining nights, the kids sat at their own, exclusive, no parents allowed table in the dining room (they decided this on their own) for meals. They also rode daily together, with the option for parents to join if desired. I joined the last day's ride with the young ones, and I was amazed at the professionalism and patience of the wranglers as well as the experience they provided in choosing trails for the rides with the kiddos! Our first ride was after a night of snow, with the snow still falling. I had never ridden a horse before, so I was terrified (but excited). The wranglers were patient (Brandon rode with the adults, and Ethan with the kids <-- they LOVED him!), knowledgeable and professional and made us feel right at ease. My assigned horse for the week (Babe), was sure footed and I quickly learned to trust her abilities to navigate the trails, the river crossings (yup - first day!) and hills throughout our ride. Each of our family members was assigned a horse for the week based on riding experience. These assignments were spot on! As the week progressed, we settled into a routine of early rise (7 AM), breakfast (730 - 830 am) and rides (900 AM - ? depending on if you chose a full or half day ride), with lazy afternoons. Dinner was promptly at 630 each evening. The kids continued their bonding, spending all days riding and nights playing games with each other. I thoroughly enjoyed the company of other adults and parents (and my little one when she felt inclined to check in), and settled into a routine of playing Trivial Pursuit with my oldest every evening. Given that the weather was cold and wet for the first half of the week, the pool was not open and we did not have an opportunity for fly fishing (river was high), but clinics were offered with great tips for future excursions. There was also a music night, with a local song writer and artist sharing his experiences with popular country music artists and songs he had written for them. This was one of the highlights of the week! There were also opportunities to learn roping, rifle shooting (.22s) and much more. Our experience at the Lazy L&B was, by far, one of the BEST my family and I have ever had. It fulfilled all of my personal wants and dreams for an authentic Western vacation, complete with amazing staff (Deb, Jason - you and your staff are AWESOME), delightful company and truly breathtaking vistas. As others have mentioned, our day of departure was melancholy - appreciation for the amazing experience and the time with the Lazy L&B staff, our new friends AND my horse, but sad to have to depart (I still miss my horse!). If you are considering a ranch vacation, this is THE PLACE, whether you are traveling with or without children. The food is above par, the accommodations exceptionally comfortable and the staff, from the food service team to the wranglers, is top notch. I hope we have an opportunity to visit again (definitely would go later in summer when it's a little warmer), but until then, THANK YOU DEB AND JASON and the whole team for a memorable and first class experience!
