I visited the Lazy L&B ranch with my dad, and our week could not have gone better. The weather (unseasonable rain and lighting and thunder) threatened the riding itinerary, but we got to ride every day we were there. They’ve got 85 horses on site, so if the one you’re paired with isn’t the best fit for any reason, they’re happy to swap out your horse. Most of their herd are quarter/draft crosses, so the horses are sturdy and sure footed.

The host family (Jason, Debbie, Julia, Felicity, and Summer) are wonderful people. Their interest in ensuring everything was just right is extremely evident. They mixed things up such that each day had a different itinerary with lots of activities to opt into or out of: roping clinic, leather workshop, fly fishing clinic, etc. A few meals were cookouts, which was a nice change.

Speaking of meals, their kitchen staff were true professionals, including a dedicated pastry chef (all cookies, muffins, cakes, pies, etc. were hand made daily) and a former private chef to a billionaire. Everything was made from scratch! Our first evening meal was filet mignon with a huckleberry Demi glacé. It was a top 5 steak of my lifetime (I’m 49). Well seasoned cast iron over fires were common. Bacon every morning! Eggs cooked to order along with huge spreads of fresh, delicious, and healthy food.

The wrangler staff, 3 of whom were the owners’ daughters, were outstanding. They were all patient, knowledgeable, and helpful. By the week’s end, you’ll have a chance to ride with all of them, and every one of them becomes your favorite. The rides were varied terrain with breathtaking views and high wildlife viewing probability. During our stay, we saw pronghorn, moose, coyotes, and—my far and away favorite—wild mustangs! We got within 40-50 yards of wild horses that have never been touched by a human. Unbelievable!

The ranch itself is a gorgeous spread in a rivered valley with cottonwoods aplenty. The river was flowing too quickly to fish well while we were there, but their private pond produced rainbow trout for those who like to fish. They have a store with western apparel, Lazy L&B swag, and miscellaneous sundries (sunscreen, lip balm, etc.). There’s a brand new pool that was heated to 78 degrees and a hot tub just a stone’s throw from the rushing river. The hot tub has powerful jets that actually helped relieve sore muscles.

If you make time to speak with Jason and Debbie, you’ll appreciate their values, story, and demeanor. They make you feel welcome, and your enjoyment is clearly of utmost importance to them. Without question, I would return to enjoy it all over again. You won’t be disappointed.

For reference, I have stayed at 5 other guest and working ranches, so I have an informed basis for comparison. This is definitely one of the good ones!

My wife and I always tend to stick with what works, which is why this was our third summer in a row to visit the Lazy L&B. You couldn't ask for better owners than Jason and Deb Halmay. You will see both of them several times a day, along with their three daughters, as they work hard to make the guest feel at home and well taken care of. The wranglers do a great job of making sure you have the right fit with your horse and saddle, and they will lead you on some awesome rides thru some beautiful country!! The daily rides are in small groups depending on skill level and the staff is always accommodating. The chef(s) and kitchen staff are awesome to say the least, serving three meals a day, so don't worry about going hungry! The cabins are rustic and very clean and comfortable. Of course this was the year of Covid-19 and I have to say the staff did a very good job implementing procedures to keep the guest and themselves safe. One of the things we like most about the Lazy L&B is the seclusion. This ranch is off the beaten path, but close enough to the little town of Dubois should you need anything. We felt very insulated, and isolated from all the problems going on in our country during these difficult times. If you want to have a relaxing vacation, look no further- this is the place to be!!

An exceptional place to have the experience of a lifetime.
We love it so much that it is our 4th stay as a family and we are already planning our next stay.
We love the location of the ranch that allows a great diversity of trail rides through rivers, valleys, forests, canyons and mountains, riding with views that stretched endlessly in every direction, without any sign of human presence.
We love how the Halmays family is able to create a very special atmosphere, with all the staff gently taking care of us.
The quality of the food and the lodging is great.
If your looking for a western experience riding you should really consider it.
If you want to read more about the ranch and Wyoming, there was a recent article in the New York Times that speaks about the ranch by Claire Thomas.

This was our second trip to the Lazy L&B. They have a schedule that keeps you busy trail riding daily but with the option to skip the riding if you want. You can sit on your log cabin porch to read or watch the ranch’s mule go by, visit the petting zoo, fly fish, hike, and swim. The meals are delicious and the portions are big but you can ask for less and tell the kitchen if you have dietary restrictions before you arrive. They’ll have meals ready for even the pickiest eaters. The evenings are different every night with happy hours, entertainment or campfire dinner. Night time star gazing is endlessly beautiful. The staff is super friendly and Jason and Deb run this place as if they’re welcoming you home. I should say that because of CoVid we followed their guidelines to maintain social distance and it was easy to do for meals and all of the other activities. Great trip!!

Last June my daughter and I took a father daughter trip to the Lazy L and B ranch. From the minute we arrived we enjoyed the professionalism from the owners and staff. You could really tell that the three daughters had been taught the importance of hard work and service to their guests. Summer, Felicity, and Julia were great working to accommodate all of the guest needs and wishes when it came to the different rides and activities. The wranglers were very friendly and the views were amazing on the daily rides. Another highlight was the great food and fellowship at the nightly dinners as well as meeting guests from all over the world. It was great spending time with my daughter and getting away the from crazy daily schedules of life and we hope to make it back soon.

I visited the Lazy L&B with my family growing up (~20 years ago now), and loved every minute from the tailored rides and activities to building friendships with others my same age from across the country.

As an adult guest, this trip was the highlight of our year. Hailing from Boston, MA a group of four of us spent a wonderful week full of approachable all day rides, delicious meals, very accommodating accommodations, and taking in the most beautiful and diverse territory. Anything I could write would pale in comparison to how perfect the trip actually was, but I have to call out a few highlights:

> There were large families there, and we were consistently impressed by how engaged and inclusive the youth program was (from afar!).
> We have stayed at other ranches that are not nearly as thorough with tailoring mounts and riding experience to best match guests interests and experience
> Wranglers were experienced, confident, and friendly. Our inexperienced group members felt fully prepared and comfortable.

We will definitely be returning to the Lazy L&B, and expect our friends and relatives to accompany us as we continue to become redundant in our praises.

This ranch trip/experience was memorable and exceptional, from start to finish. The ranch location in the unspoiled WY high country and the serene layout of the ranch work in unison to melt away the daily grind stress we now live under 24/7. The horses are all maintained and trained to the highest standards. You will establish a special connection with your assigned horse, and you will miss your horse when you have gone back home. The wranglers are all patient, knowledgeable, and professional. Each wrangler brings a unique touch/perspective to his/her guided ride, and no ride is ever the same, but each ride is spectacular. The cabins and food were outstanding and contributed to the experience. The ranch staff are all attentive, courteous, and polite. We traveled with our 14-year old son & he quickly made new friends (including his horse) as did we. The unique intangible to this ranch, its atmosphere, and its surroundings for me was the re-connection I made with my family and with nature, and the connections we made as a family with the other guests, all free from the distractions of phones, social media, and the internet (there's no need or desire to connect when you are on the ranch and riding the WY high country on a beautiful horse). Many heartfelt thanks to Deb, Jason, and all the ranch staff for this unforgettable trip and the lasting memories.

If you are looking for your "Home on the Range" for a week, look no further than the Lazy L&B Ranch. Located in a historic and Picturesque setting that is absolutely stunning, the Lazy L&B is a non-commercialized, authentic western experience you will never forget. Jason and Deb have done everything right here, from cozy, comfortable, private cabins, to quality horse stock, to a smiling and very friendly staff willing to do everything they can to make your stay memorable. The food was high quality and exceptionally prepared, and chef Johnny went out of his way to even make sure gluten-free options were available. We made this trip with our adult children and they are still talking about the amazing experience they enjoyed. The wranglers made sure every ride was a different ride and equally amazing in views and wildlife experience. If you want to play where the antelope play, and truly experience Wyoming instead of just visiting it, book your stay now. The Lazy L&B will not disappoint!

The Guenthardt family. Thank you Jason and Deb, it was worth the wait!!

We have been looking forward to visiting the Lazy L and B for a long time and we were finally able to put it together this year. My wife, four kids, and I were thrilled by all aspects of this beautifully situated, charming family-operated ranch. The location and surrounding area are stunning. The daily rides are well planned, and the wranglers are knowledgeable and fun. The food is terrific; the staff and proprietors are charismatic, outgoing folks with a flair for the business. Many thanks, Jason and Debbie for memories that will last a lifetime!

We just returned home from a week at Lazy L & B Ranch! I can not say enough wonderful things about this ranch. Deb and Jason and their girls really go above and beyond to create such a magical experience for everyone. My kids ages are 13, 10 and 9 had the time of their lives! They were the first ones to greet the animals at the petting zoo in the morning and the last to say good night to them in the evening. We all fell in love with all the new babies on the ranch.
Every day we rode to a new destination with incredible views, pictures just don't do it justice.
The food was spectacular, their chef really goes above and beyond to make sure everyone is happy.
It's truly like living on a ranch for a week! We had such a wonderful family vacation that we are coming back in 2022! It can't come soon enough!
