My wife and I visited Bitterroot Ranch for a week of horseback riding. This was the best vacation of my life. Wide open spaces, great horses, riding lessons if desired, riding adventures led by friendly and energetic wranglers, perfect family style food, and rustic cabins for accommodations. The Fox family who own the ranch are the most amazing part of the trip. They make you feel at home. It was hard to leave at the end of the week. This won’t be our last trip to Bitterroot.

Sue's hands-on demonstrations allowed me to feel how the horse experiences me as a rider. She helped me to learn nuances which allow me to ride in synch with my horse. As someone who has ridden for decades, I found her classes eye-opening, to say the least. I highly recommend her course. And, I highly recommend the Bitterroot Ranch. There is no other place on earth like it! Their love for horses is ever present.

Our reason for choosing to stay at Bitterroot Ranch was to fly fish uncrowded waters for trout but we found so much more than excellent trout fishing at Bitterroot. From our welcome to our departure we were treated as long-time friends by both the Fox family as well as staff. The family's concern that their quests receive a quality experience at the ranch was evident throughout the week. Personal conversations with members of the Fox family added to our knowledge of the area and increased our appreciation for the wonderful history of Bitterroot Ranch. Dining was beyond expectations with our personal dietary needs considered at every meal. Menus were varied and well prepared with fresh vegetables from the ranch garden regularly included. Our authentic log cabin was rustic but accommodating to our privacy and comfort - clean and well maintained. We came to fish and we were not disappointed! The cutthroat trout fishing in the East Fork of the Wind River is excellent. The owner Bayard Fox advised us by sharing his extensive fishing knowledge of the area. He was also willing to guide us to very productive waters. It was an honor and a privilege and a very unexpected bonus to have been able to fish with Mr. Fox. The hiking on Bitterroot Ranch was another exceptional and rewarding experience. Although many opportunities exist on the ranch for scenic mountain hikes, the opportunity for possibly seeing the Wind River wild horse herd was of special interest to us. Our elation when we were able to view these magnificent animals was a highlight our stay at Bitterroot Ranch. We highly recommend Bitterroot Ranch, not only for its renowned horseback riding, but also for it's excellent fly fishing and hiking opportunities. -Dan & Lee VandenBerg

My wife and I just spent the past week at the Bitterroot Ranch. This is our fourth stay there over the past 15 years. As always, we had a great time! The riding experience is outstanding, as is also the hospitality and food. This is a family owned enterprise that is second to none. If you are looking for a great family oriented getaway, with an extremely high focus on ensuring your safety, matched to riding ability, incredible mountain views, outdoor experience and quiet private cabins, then you've found the right place. They even offer yoga to get your body back in alignment, after a hard days ride, which I desperately needed a couple of times during the course of the week. We attended a "centered riding" class that was outstanding, and were able to combine that with multiple outdoor rides to put what we learned to test. Suffice it to say, we love the Bitterroot Ranch and all it offers. Where else can you watch nearly 200 horses run wild yet be so docile, due to hands-on training and attention by ownership. My wife, Debbie, especially liked spending time with the new foals, which they encourage, to make sure they love humans. Bayard, Mel, Richard and Hadley Fox are the epitome of wonderful hosts. They offer an experience that you won't find elsewhere. We are planning to go back next June to attend another class and get rejuvenated. We encourage you to check it out and do the same.

I recently participated in a one-week, horseback riding summer session at Bitterroot Ranch in Dubois, WY, from which I returned a better and physically stronger rider, thus achieving my sport vacation goal. It was also most enjoyable! While I've ridden sporadically throughout my life, the much needed instruction in Western-style riding that I received from head riding instructor Hadley Fox was excellent -- precise, constructive, spot-on. Attention to the rider's comfort, safety, and enjoyment are the focus of Bitterroot's equine professionals. Specific horses are selected for each rider based upon his or her height and weight, riding ability, and spirit of adventure -- this information having been obtained prior to arrival through a questionnaire and an evaluation on day one. I was placed in a group of riders with similar abilities, and matched to sure-footed, well-trained horses. The variety of scenery and terrain made each day's rides new, interesting, and challenging.
