Excellent situation which allows them to charge a premium but a common thread through a lot of the reviews re building appearing tired. Second floor lake view room was ideal for us, could hear the sea pounding outside (weather was poor) but so much of the hotel and dining room needs updating. It was clean, comfortable but it deserves better. Dinner was o k in the restaurant but the service was slow, it was quiet, and the menu seemed very restricted. We just used the $5 voucher for breakfast which was fine. If competition is coming to town they will need to respond pdq.

My wife and myself stayed one night in a lakeside room which was clean, comfortable, and larger than most rooms with two queen beds in comparable hotels. That’s the good part. The disappointing part, for me, was how dated the property seemed. From the older-style furnishings in the room to various small not well maintained details in the bath and the restaurant area (heating grills were literally hanging / falling off the wall in the dining room near the windows). So, it’s an OK place to stay but with a new hotel scheduled to open in town soon the owners are really going to need to plow some money into the place to freshen it up and improve the condition if they want to compare well to a new place. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad place and we didn’t have a bad stay but, that said, I expected more based on rave reviews from others. I’d stay again because it was clean and service was good everywhere around the property but to rate higher (for me) they’d need to deal with the maintenance issues (at least in the dining room).

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review GoneOffTheGrid. We're glad you enjoyed your stay and to hear that you'd come back again. Being a private, family owned business, part of our charm is the decor. There are always upgrades to be made and we are continually working on them, though not always as fast as we'd like. Now that tourist season is over, there is more time to work on those projects. New locks are being installed today and new dining room chairs were delivered yesterday. Plans for re flooring the bar and banquet hall are in the works, as are a few other projects. We believe that the Lighthouse Inn is successful because we ARE "different" from chain hotels. Being "different" sets us apart and helps us stand out. GoneOffTheGrid, we truly appreciate your honest feedback and are thankful for your input. We will make sure to work on the restaurant heaters as quickly as possible. Hopefully you're back soon to see the upgrades and changes we're making!

The room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. Microwave, refrigerator, and coffee maker. Also a recliner which helped with a great night sleep. Bed was a little hard. Breakfast in the restaurant was great especially with the $5 voucher. View fantastic! Price was reasonable. Will stay here again!

We came here on a last minute weekend getaway and were very happy! Staff was very accommodating to our last minute reservation. Views were fantastic, restaurant in the hotel had great food. Room was fine. Not fancy but clean and comfortable with a microwave and fridge. The indoor pool and hot tub were wonderful as well! Also close to parks and the beach. Already planning our next visit in the winter!

Great location right on Lake Michigan. Good walking/bike trails along the the lake are available. Good restaurant on the premises with a great lake view. Breakfast included by ordering from a selection of offerings or applying a $5 credit per person from any item on the menu. Nice rooms but overall dampness created a slightly musty aroma.
