We traveled to Trempealeau by pontoon and parked at the marina. The ONLY reason we made reservations at the Inn is because Tim (the owner) told us he provided shuttle service from the marina to the Inn which is a mile apart. When we got to the marina, we tried calling Tim for about an hour and he didn't answer... More

simple and clean, rooms look over the Mississippi near the locks. Tons of trains fly by day and night, fun to watch (but noisy). We loved it, the kids loved it. Sometimes during peak season in fall they require two nights on the weekend, but call anyways, and if they have room they'll get you in. (I did leave a... More

We began calling while travelling toward Trempealeau on a Sunday, hoping to stay four nights. Continually got no answer. Tried leaving messages with our cell phone numbers, but never did get a response. When arriving in Trempealeau, we stopped in, only to find a "Closed" sign on the door with no indication of when someone would return. People staying there... More

We stayed here on a perfect late Sept weekend so really nothing was going to bother us. All the rooms face the Mississippi River and is right in town. If you are not a sound sleeper you will not enjoy the very heavily used railroad only 150 feet from your balcony and between you and the river. Stay on the... More

Firstly we had rung some months ago to confirm reservation but when ringing to advise of late arrival there was no reservation in file. Still we got a room arranged without any probs. The room was comfortable. Yes it is a bit quirky and worn around the edges, but it is good value and we had a great nights sleep.... More

This was not your typical 5 star motel, but combine the cleanliness with the view, with the property gardens, the gift certificates to dine, access to Perrot State Park along with the biking and kayaking opportunities it rates a 5 star with us. This was our third peaceful stay at Inn on the River. You need to love trains as... More

My sister had seen this inn on one of her frequent road trips....so when I came to visit we stayed there. It's a small place, only about a dozen rooms, upper and lower. The room was a mix of old and new....warped patio screen door, threadbare sheets, but nice thick towels and a pedestal sink in the bathroom. The beds... More

Owner says he'll only book two night stays. We pointed out that the lot was empty and if he allowed one night he'd get paid. He let us book the single night. Wifi doesn't work here. Rooms are clean but smell old. carpet had burn holes and "drapes" were gross. No shampoo/conditioner provided in room. Decor is "homemade".

This is a lovely place to enjoy watching the trains go by (yes - day AND night) and boating (including barges) on the river. The room was clean and comfortable. A small refrigerator was included. This is not a new hotel by any means but it is clean, and maintained. No evidence of neglect or maintenance issues. The innkeeper was... More

This was our second visit to Inn on the River, this time bringing along about 15 people on a bird watching tour along the Mississippi River. We were very pleased with the accommodations, their readiness to receive us when we all arrived together as well as meeting some specific requests. Yes, the Inn is old but reasonably maintained. These building... More
