Travelers' Choice
Standing at the gateway to both Holkham Hall and the Holkham National Nature Reserve and beach, The Victoria, affectionately known as ‘The Vic’, is a classic English inn owned by the Coke family. There are ten elegant, individually designed bedrooms, with an additional ten across the road in one of the oldest buildings on the Estate: Ancient House. The sympathetic refurbishment of Ancient House in 2015 has retained many of the building’s original features, such as the bay windows and Tudor chimney pots, combining authentic charm with luxurious modernity. All bedrooms have been designed with an emphasis on comfort and quality; guests can opt for a double or twin bedroom, or a spacious family attic room, or from a choice of four suites in Ancient House which have their own attractive sitting rooms. For guests with disabilities, there is a ground floor double room with full access and a wet room. The rooms are made up of mix of contemporary and antique pieces of furniture which add to the charm. The rooms are all named after shooting drives on the Holkham Estate, and you will find nods to this theme in the décor too. Dogs are welcome to stay in the rooms at The Victoria and are also allowed throughout the ground floor of the inn. The bar and dining rooms offer a relaxed blend of style and comfort, as well as incredible views over the nature reserve. The Victoria serves delicious locally sourced food, much of it grown and raised on the Holkham Estate with a bold emphasis on freshness, simplicity, and value.

Just returned from a three night stay in Room 19 suite in Ancient House. The weather outside was awful but the room was so warm and cosy that we spent quite a lot of time relaxing in our lounge. It is difficult to fault anything about the Victoria Hotel. The reception and restaurant staff were friendly and very efficient. Breakfast, which was served at the table, was full of nice choices and served promptly. Dinner was excellent with menu changes each day. Tasteful decor and open fires made a nice ambiance. We combined our stay with a matinee at the Thursford Christmas show and on our second day, the candlelight tour of Holkham Hall which was stunning. We added dinner to our tarfiff which we consideded to be worthwhile value.

Having been previous customers of the Victoria several times over the years we knew that it was the place to go for a drink and snacks after a pleasant 4 mile walk along Holkham beach/woods. We were a party of 6 with a small dog. All fine of course, or so we thought. Upon trying to get in, we were stopped at the door and told that we could only come in if we were residents or if we intended to order full meals from the menu. Not the height of summer, no lockdowns, and as it turned out, plenty of staff and lots of empty seats in the restaurant (one of our party saw this as they nipped in to use the loo). Not sure why The Victoria had adopted this policy, but we decided to go to The Hoste in Burnham Market instead, and probably will next time too.

Hi Dan - sorry to hear of your disappointment when trying to have drinks and snacks at The Victoria. The Victoria Inn has been very busy, fully-booked with residents and often fully-booked at lunch and dinner times. Due to how busy we currently are, and still being aware of the current pandemic, we're operating less as a pub and more as a restaurant & hotel. This means pre-booking meals is advised and we aren't currently accepting walk-ins for drinks and snacks. We understand your disappointment, as this is how it was prior to the pandemic, but until further notice we would recommend pre-booking for one of our lunchtime slots.

A wonderful cosy hotel with exceptional food and very nice dining areas. The restaurant and conservatory are lovely places to eat, and the service is excellent. Very nice breakfasts too! Our room was clean and well appointed, with beautiful views across to the coast and into the Holkham estate, which itself is well worth a visit. I highly recommend staying here, it feels exclusive yet warm and friendly at the same time.

We had been to Brancaster Beach, so were dressed in old clothes as it was a damp day. Decided to pop in for lunch, sadly to be informed they were full, and you had to have a reservation, that's fair enough. Then a couple behind us got shown to a table that had become free, they hadn't booked, but were dressed the part in tweed. Wasn't too impressed, restaurant bar staff weren't that helpful. Being told "I think the cafe at the house would suit you better" wasn't nice.

We are concerned to read your comments, this is certainly not what we would expect from our team. With our position right on the edge of the north Norfolk coast, we are very used to our lovely guests arriving straight from the beach or nature reserve and certainly do not have any kind of dress policy. We would be keen to discuss your experience with you, could you kindly email Ben Hunter-Watts, general manager, at victoria@holkham.co.uk?

The Victoria Inn is a real treat. You have to book well in advance because it gets booked up fast, but once you've been, it makes total sense. Our room was spacious, clean, quiet and had a very luxurious bathroom with heated flooring! The decor was modern and relaxing. Spotted throughout the Victoria Inn was fresh flowers which was a nice tough of elegance and homliness. The restaurant had a large fireplace which was lit and very welcome after long walks on the beach with a bracing wind! The food was great - huge portions, speedy service and a good variety of both vegan and vegetarian options. If I had to be really picky, I'd say it would be nice to have USB chargers in the rooms as part of the wall plug - but that is such a minor detail. We'll definatly be back, it was a real treat.
