Everyone was welcoming and friendly. Our room was very nice and clean. Comfortable bed, pillows were so fluffy. The pool and hot tub are very nice. My husband liked the Sauna. We had a beautiful view from our room. Nice walking paths around the Marina. They have some outdoor seating. The food was delicious, I had Jumbo shrimp my husband had the white fish. Nice portions. The chef was so nice, he was cooking, waiting tables and at closing was cleaning up the restaurant. I didn't get his name, but job Well done!

The hotel has some great views & the staff was really nice. However, it needs to be updated. The first thing we noticed in our room was the funky smell. Then the run down furniture & especially the carpet. The bathroom fan was obnoxiously loud & on the same switch as the light so if you want the light, the fan turns on. There was what appeared to be mold on the bathroom walls. Towels were small & thin. No housekeeping was done between our 2 day stay so we called for extra towels which they said they’d bring to our room. 2 hours later my husband went to get them himself. They gave him 2. He mentioned we needed 3 & they gave him a very thin small one only slightly bigger than the bath mat. The coffee by the front desk was a nice touch, but was empty half the time. The potential for this hotel is huge, but I’m sure the impact of covid hit them hard.

Thank you for staying with us. We apologize that you did not enjoy your stay. Due to our staffing issues, we do not clean your room while you are here unless requested. This should have been stated to you at check in and we will address this with our staff. The staff tries to keep up with the coffee but when you have only one person working they may not get to it right away since they are also answering phones and helping guests. We are working hard trying to staff up just like all the other businesses in the area. Hopefully this staffing shortage trend ends soon but it has been going on since Covid. We do hope you try us again in the future. Happy Holiday Season

The entryway was nice. That's all I have to positivity.
The room/hallways/etc once you get into the hotel looks like it hasn't been updated in 40 years. The bathroom faucet was ice cold and minimal flow. I didn't realize I was overcharged until I got home since the lady was too busy sitting in her office to check anyone out. She told all of us to just put our key cards in the bin on the counter. I wouldn't go back unless I was desperate and half the cost of other hotels.

Thank you for staying with us. We apologize that you were not satisfied with your stay. The staff should not be sitting at a desk telling people to put their keys in the box. Thank you for letting us know and we will address that right away. We continually make updates to the hotel. In the past year there was a new parking lot put in, we painted the outside of the building and put new carpeting in all the guest rooms. We strive to give the best experience to our guests and we do hope you try us again in the future.

This hotel/resort is a time warp from the 1970’s! Outdated, dirty (gross dirty) mold in the showers, etc. I don’t think they actually clean the rooms. Shower towels are an oversized hand towel, not to mention they only put 2 in a room that stays 4 people. Not worth the $$ they are charging. Spend a few more $$ and go down the street to the holiday inn. Staff seems annoyed with a question or request.

Rating Barkers Island Inn as merely average. Had dinner in the restaurant the the food was inedible. 3 of us ordered a Oktoberfest entree and when the plates arrived, the food looked horrific. Chicken schnitzel was pounded then and instead of being sautéed in butter in a pan, it was deep fried rendering it like tasteless cardboard. It was covered in a heavy sauce. Schnitzel is finished with a fresh squeeze of lemon. The spaetzel was bloated from sitting in water and too salty to eat. It too, should have been sautéed in a pan with butter to make it crispy. The red cabbage was dried. The whole thing should never have been served. It was prison food at best. I had to order a second meal which also had quality issues. Server was inexperienced and clueless. We should have been comped. Would never eat here again. Order a delivery pizza instead.

We stayed here for a one night getaway. It was alright. But until updates are made i will not be back.
Good:
Large pool
Good views even if youre looking over the marina
Staff was friendly
Lobby is nice
Quiet.
Excellent tv channel selection

Bad:
Bathroom was filthy (mold in corners of wall, snot on doorframe, shower curtain was musty, tub didnt drain quickly while showering, toilet took forever to flush and was quite loud.)
Mattresses are old and flat
Rooms are straight from fhe 90s

With an update and housekeeping to ensure these rooms are clean, i could easily justify spending $100-165 ~ a night. Until it is updated I will not be back however.

Thank you for your review. We will address your concerns about the bathroom conditions with housekeeping and maintenance. We know our rooms look outdated and we pride ourselves on our cleanliness and our great staff. We do apologize that we fell short. I wish I could say we will be doing some renovations soon but with the hit we took with Covid I have no idea when we will be able to do any. We do hope that you try us again. Take Care and stay healthy

No issues, very pleasant two night stay! My travel companion complimented me on finding this property. I would stay again.

Desk/Gift Shop area should stock jackets or sweatshirts; they missed a sale. Instead only t-shirts, jewelry, postcards, mugs, etc.

Didn't try the pool, hot tub or sauna- but all were popular. The whole place didn't smell of chlorine. The rooms not-poolside are quieter. Great parking lot size.

You are on an island. There are few trees. Take a jacket. Great views of Duluth at night and occasional ships.

Fortunately, we only had a 1 night stay. The room is old and smells. We need a wheelchair accessible room. Yes, the bath is large enough for the wheelchair, however you can not get the wheelchair through the door. Yes, there are grab handles, however, place incorrectly. No vertical handle at toilet or to get in and out of tub/shower.
Hair dryer does not blow air. TV does not turn on after 10:00 am.
Breakfast is grab & go.... no place for someone in a wheel chair to set down a coffee and toast. I guess they forgot that people in wheelchais eat too.
This is a substandard crappy hotel. Stay away.

We are so sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us. If we would have known that you were looking for a place to eat your breakfast, we would have opened the restaurant for you to sit in. I hope you called the desk to let us know about the issues with the hair dryer and TV so we could send maintenance to your room. We hope you change your mind and try us again in the future.

The location is fun and some of the staff is nice. There was supposed to an alarm clock in the room; there wasn't. The phone didn't work. I don't know if they even attempted the wake-up call I requested (I had an appointment). The halls are LOUD - many screaming children. The property does not seem well cared for - rust in the bathroom, etc... I would not recommend staying there - unless you have loud kids who need a winter get-away with a pool.

We have come to Barkers Island several times. Though the hotel itself is aging and the exterior can use a fresh coat of paint, it was nice to see them updating the parking lot and external green spaces, and too they have made some internal improvements, especially in the lobby area. The value is great as anything in Duluth just 15 minutes away is at least $100 more a night and Barker's Island provides a quick access to the North Shore. Always have fun here!
