Pros: Frank Lloyd Wright-esque architecture, and hosts seemed interested in pleasing guests, relatively clean. Cons: Badly rusted radiators in bathroom, some stains on ceiling, road noise during the day (though it did not keep us up at night). Biggest Con: Owners required copies of our drivers' licenses and additional documentation for an 8pm check-in. Felt very much like an invasion of our privacy.
Wow. I don't know if it was the corrugated roofing material covering the windows or the unfinished plywood ceiling that did it for for me but I can't believe I paid $200 for a night in this room. I'm hoping the weak wifi signal lets me transmit this review! I had a bad feeling when I noticed letters missing from the highway sign, I grew concerned when I saw the weed filled landscaping, then almost barfed at the overwhelming musty smell when I opened the door. The peeling paint on the exterior soffits and posts to hold up the corners of the roof were also concerning. I do feel sorry for the owners because repairs to bring this place up to Red Roof standards would break the bank. I know it was designed to FLWs Usonian standards but whatever architectural charm this place has died a long time ago. $200!!! I feel cheated.…
My wife & I enjoyed our stay in the Signature Room at the Usonian Inn. We came to Spring Green to see Taliesin and we were so glad we found this lovely inn. The room could of very well been in Taliesin itself, from the plywood ceiling to the tiled walls and stone & wood floors. The inn was built in the late 1940's by an apprentice of Wright and our host Carolina & her husband are bringing it back to its Usonian simplicity. Carolina was a very attentive host and we were pleased how clean the room was. This is a very quite inn in which we were able to relax in peace and quite after a long day of touring Taliesin.
While the accommodations were comfortable and rooms clean, we were met with a very antagonistic owner who upon our arrival complained that she couldn’t leave. Later she literally yelled at us for having a bicycle in the room and responded with disdain when we respectfully asked about alternatives. Finally, she insisted that we leave at 11 AM on the last day and argued when we responded that we were packing up the car and would be leaving shortly. I honestly can’t think of an experience in the hospitality industry where I was treated so rudely.
Unfortunately this place is soooo run down. Rooms are musty, towels look like they came from a dorm room, air conditioner barely works. It’s a shame that this historical inn has not been maintained…. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.
Heather and I thoroughly enjoyed the mix of retro and Euro in our room. Comfortable accommodations with a corner window view of cranes rummaging in the harvested cornfield. Easy walk into town. And Carolina has some truly distinctive Romanian wines for sale as well as some very eco-friendly products.
i booked a two night stay and when we arrived we were informed that they were working on the water pressure and would be entering my room when we were away. when i said that was not acceptable, instead of offering me alternative accommodations or offering an apology and having us check in a bit later so they could complete repairs, I was told i was being difficult. i said i wished to cancel and find a different hotel, she said it was not a valid reason and i would still be charged. If you enjoy non working rooms or the idea of staff completing repairs in your room while you are away with your belongings, you may love this. Not for me. Cant say anything about the rooms as we never completed check in, but the water pressure needs work.
We stay here every time we go to the American Players Theater. While the rooms are compact, things are well arranged. The bathrooms have been recently redone using very unusual and elegant fixtures. The motel was designed in 1950 by a student of Frank Lloyd Wright under the supervision of the great architect. The walls are thick enough to block out traffic sounds more effectively than any place I have ever stayed in. The grounds are beautiful and during warmer weather, there are plenty of places to relax outside. Spring Green is also, as I accidentally found out, on my 69th birthday, that Spring Green is a "Birthday City" and businesses offer many free things and special offers on one's birthday.
The owner is a liar and will drum up charges once you've left. They will charge your credit card for things that did not occur and will lie continually about the condition the room was left in. I wouldn't stay here if you paid me.
Usonian is a hidden gem located on the beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright Trail surrounded by gorgeous Wisconsin views. The owner, Carolina, recently renovated the entire property. The rooms are very clean and extremely cozy. I was treated with respect from the moment I booked my stay until the time I was checking out. The location is close to a charming downtown area with delicious food options and fantastic shopping. Overall, an enjoyable experience. 10/10 would highly recommend.
