We had the rehearsal dinner the night before our son’s wedding at Sara & Collins “Kitchen/Inn”. It was an evening to remember. Sara & Collin worked with us, the parents of the groom to design a menu especially to meet the soon to be married couple’s tastes. The menu ranged from a uniquely flavored artichoke and roasted red peppers dip with locally baked focaccia to entrees and sides such as jerked chicken sliders and local grown pork brats with wonderfully flavored lemon Caesar salad, potato salad with charred sweet corn and roasted garlic and a pasta with dill and mint dressing. Though their pub/outdoor deck was a snug squeeze for our group of 30, Sara, Collin and their team executed our drinks and dinner with warmth and style to perfection. Collin even curated both a craft beer selection and a thoughtful playlist to our honored guests complete satisfaction. We will be back no doubt and recommend Roots to our friends and all of you happily. Mary & Mike O.…
My husband and I stayed a night here and absolutely loved it! We arrived late. Our key and a lovely little note from the owners was waiting for us when we arrived. The entry is homey, and beautifully decorated. Our room was just up the stairs. We were greeted with a cozy room that was super clean, neat as a pin with tasteful furnishings and a super comfy bed. Breakfast and coffee in the morning on the back deck was relaxing. The food was excellent, and locally sourced. We really couldn't have asked for more. The owners have thought of everything, and it shows. We will be back!
We stayed in the Backpacker room for 2 nights. The room was tight but worked for 2 people. It was very well decorated and surprisingly comfortable. I understand the other rooms are bigger. Like most B&Bs the place is a little quirky, but this time only in the best ways. The location was about half a block from the main business district on a quiet street. There are several coffee shops, ice cream parlors, and restaurants nearby. The breakfasts, (especially on the first day), were excellent. We didn't try the food at other times. The B&B was very clean and the owners and staff were very friendly. The upper Door County area in general had a positive vibe. They seemed to be cautious not to spread Covid using common sense. People respected each other's space and were courteous. I would definitely want to come back to the area and to the Root Inn & Kitchen.…
SO grateful to have a place with such amazing vegan options! I’ve been here twice and pretty much tried about 85% of the menu and wasn’t disappointed with a single thing. The Mac and cheese waffles are incredible, zucchini fries I could eat all day, tacos were so fresh and flavorful, truffle chips were salty and rich, broccoli wings were surprisingly delicious… I could eat here every day!
Other than a hiccup with our bill, we had a wonderful time. We made reservations in August 2020, with our confirmation stating the lodging rate for our room was $179 per night. We stayed in July 2021. We were charged $185. I’m assuming the rate increased alter the first of the year. We were also charged for 2 beer draws and an appetizer at the bar area, which we did not order. I’m sure the Pepper Dip was excellent, but we never ordered or tried it. We were promptly refunded for those charges, which was very much appreciated. That being said, I rated this place 5 stars. The location was perfect, within walking distance to shops/restaurants/the beach & piers. The two breakfasts provided by Collin & Sara were amazing! The breakfast tacos are probably on my list of the top 5 (maybe even less) breakfasts I’be ever had—so delicious!! Roots Inn was very charming, with beautiful grounds in the back, and the history of the building is interesting. Collin & Sara were absolutely wonderful hosts. Would highly recommend!!…
Amazing vegan friendly food menu, lovely tree top patio, tasty beer selections. The hardest part was deciding which delicious sounding food to try. They were very clear what was vegan, what had nuts, and were willing to modify to remove nuts/leave off non vegan selections based on allergies/dietary restrictions. Great little spot, can’t wait to go back.
I’ve visited Roots Inn and Kitchen several times now with a group of women and the place never disappoints! The food is meticulously crafted from farm fresh ingredients in very creative, gourmet preparations by the owners who are always on site to make sure everything’s up to their standards. The bar and restaurant have a great vibe and the outdoor dining space is both private and pleasantly arranged—a great spot to enjoy a drink or dine. Just can’t say enough about this place if you’re looking for a memorable experience at a special spot.
We stayed in the Woods room. It was small, but adequate. There was no TV. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfasts were gourmet and excellent. Sara and Collin are gracious hosts and we very much enjoyed our stay with them.
If you want super clean and super cozy this is the place for you! We stayed in the Water Room. The bed was very comfy. The air was set at a comfortable temp. The nights were cool so we opened window. The breakfasts were so good and beautifully presented. We ate lunch at the Inn and had the Asian Tacos. They were so good. We had them on the corn tortillas. You got 4 and that was plenty. We had the Bread Pudding for dessert. In my opinion that is a must have on the menu.
Collin and Sara were fantastic B & B hosts. The breakfast was wonderful each day and we enjoyed the rooftop patio. Plenty of room to social distance. They took a personal interest in us, took care of our bikes and made sure our needs were met. In spite of the COVID restrictions, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was very spacious and comfy. It was our anniversary/birthday week and they offered excellent recommendations on things to do and places to eat. They reached out via email several times leading up to our stay and even sent us a thank you email after we got back. This we our first time to Door County and when we go back we will make sure to stay at Roots. It is conveniently located in downtown Sister Bay near our favorite sandwich shop, The Creamery.
