My stay at the Pfister was blissful. I usually steer clear of historic hotels when traveling for work, having little time to appreciate the details and a heightened sensitivity to any shortcomings. With the Pfister, I found myself wishing I could stay longer. My room was large, comfortable, and immaculate, with elegant touches throughout. It had relatively good lighting, and an amazing view. The bathroom was spacious and well-designed. The rooms do not have good soundproofing, but I was on the side with the circular layout, which meant there wasn't a long hall for noise to travel down. Not too bad overall. The staff seemed proud of their work and were particularly pleasant and helpful, even for the Midwest. The one major complaint I had was with room service. I ordered the pasta, which was the most disgusting entree I've had in years. (The last time was an airport hotel in Dallas. These experiences prove memorable.) Anyone just looking at the dish should have recognized how awful it was. I have no idea why such a well-run hotel would overlook something like this. I will definitely stay here again -- but with different plans for dinner.

Just us, our witnesses and minister on the mezzanine of the hotel. The elegant background of the historic building was lovely. Stayed overnight in a beautiful suite. We plan to return on our anniversary and again dine in the fabulous Mason Street Grille in the hotel.

From start to finish, we received superb service. Our room was upgraded to a suite. We had access to the 23rd floor club room. The pool view (from the 23rd floor) was terrific. Had dinner at their steakhouse. Receptionist asked if we had a special occasion, which was our anniversary. A complimentary dessert was served with 'happy 19th anniversary' in chocolate.....very personalized.

The hotel itself is a nice, quaint, old hotel with a newer section. I stayed in the old section, was "upgraded" to a king suite on the second floor just above the lobby. The room was nice, but dark - as is a lot of the hotel. Bed was very comfortable, rooms clean, and great TVs. Old rooms are not accessible oriented, tight quarters. Mayor flaw - the Internet at the Pfister is absolutely the worst that I have experienced anywhere! The signal was strong, no problem there - so it had to be bandwidth. This was evidenced by being able to finally download emails and websites at 4:00 am that were essentially blocked during normal waking hours. In today's world this is completely unacceptable. I've had better internet in hotels in third world countries than I did here. Very frustrating! I stayed here as it was the "conference hotel". I wish I had stayed across the street at the Marriott - I've always had good experiences at Marriotts.
