This resort is outstanding. Service is top notch, the beds are comfy, the breakfast is fantastic, and the views are out of this world. The people who are complaining about this place are being super nit picky. You get the feeling you are in a rustic Costa Rican vibe, with the luxuries of a 5 star hotel. Love how remote it is, and the walk up and down to the beach is a perfect workout. It only takes about 5 mins if you want to run up the stairs, otherwise 10 mins at a walking pace. There are 2 water stations near the top with incredible views, so its worth the effort. The best restaurant near the resort was

Wow! Thank you to Joe, Margarita, Eduardo, Antonio, Mario and the rest of the team! Thank you for such an amazing experience! Food - wow! For Breakfast, definitely try the potato crunch. For drinks - let Eduardo take care of you at the Beach club … real mixologist. For dinner - you can’t go wrong … everything was amazing! The view - wow! You won’t beat it! The pools and beach - great! Perfect for everyone to enjoy! The wildlife - macaws and monkeys … need I say more? We will be back as soon as possible!

Just WOW - we will eagerly return with friends and family to Punta Islita. It rejuvenated our spirits and kept us active with adventures and new experiences. We come to Costa Rica because of the amazing natural environment, but return because of the people and their choice of life mindsets. This gorgeous hotel is off the beaten path - we used a driver to collect us from Blue River Resort and bring us, so it was relaxing and easy. Victor was wonderful arranging everything we needed from our first contact with the hotel- made us feel very comfortable. On arrival, Lucia greeted us with a warm welcome, cool towels to refresh and introduced us to Joe- the guest operation specialist and our new best friend 😅. Cold drinks, a welcome visit with maps of the property and an invitation to that night’s turtle nesting walk stole our hearts. The suite was breathtaking and beautifully outfitted with locally made furnishings and art! I must say how we appreciated Joe’s encouragement for us to visit the local art center, shops and restaurants to support the town during our visit. Easy shuttles from the hotel made this quick and easy! WARM WELCOME ☺️ So much to do! Jorge took us on adventures to watch the turtles nest, see and photograph monkeys using the big telescope lens, go 4 wheeling to the organic farm where Anayanci took time to show us her work and kayaking on the Ora river that was full of wildlife! Thank you Jorge for sharing your stories of Costa Rica and life there! Tico cooking classes with chefs Hector and Erick allowed us to meet new people from all over, while Jorsen from the Macaw Preserve project gave us the history and lifestyle of those working tirelessly to reintroduce the Scarlet and Green Macaws to Costa Rica. We saw the Scarlets every day in the wild, but the best photos are from the preserve - take the shuttle and go! SOUL FILLING ADVENTURES Breakfast, lunch and dinners were exceptional - fresh, locally grown and prepared with layers of flavor. We ate a lot and still lost weight due to the activities and great fresh food! Other reviews mentioned a dinner menu that was lacking, but their new menu was excellent and had wonderful variations. Can’t say enough about the waiters and bartenders - Antonio kept us laughing, Mauricio, Kervin, Minor, Geraldo, Felipe and Margarita the dog whisperer- we miss you all! TOP QUALITY FOOD AND STAFF BECOME LIKE FAMILY We both enjoyed the local craft classes for the sea bean keychains in town with Llobeth and shopped there at the art center as well as the hotel gift shop 😂 - will definitely do more of the classes next time, since others recommended them highly. Suggestions? Come to soak in what Costa Rica does best- this is not a wild party spot, but a place for warm interactions, respect for nature, adventures, new experiences and healthy, amazing food. We met people from ages 6-80 who were their best selves here. The world can learn from this Pura Vida. You’ll want to stay here longer than you think 😅Thank you all for providing this experience!

Our family of 5 stayed at Punta Islita in August 2023. The location is amazing. We loved the individual rooms / villas. The location is private with both beach and nature. The dining and bar service we received was amazing, especially from Randy, Kervin, Antonio, Margarita, Jacob, and Minor. The staff is all very friendly and helpful. Joe was great to assist us with booking activities. We did do the canopy tour, which we highly recommend. Our guides, Ronald, Julio, and Naron, were amazing and made it very fun. We also did horseback riding. We also did some of the activities which are included in the stay (Candle making and Mazamorra). They were all excellent, especially the Mixology class with Kervin. There are 2 restaurants available as part of the hotel. Our only complaint is the dinner food. The food was not great at all for dinner, and the prices are high. The breakfast and lunch menus are good and we enjoyed the daily breakfast choices. We also enjoyed dinner at a local restaurant that was just a few minutes from the hotel (transportation dropped us off). Just a few other tips--visit the nearby town, transportation (shuttles) are readily available to go to the beach, gym, or nearby town. However, you can walk to the beach (5 minute walk). Also, I would not recommend this resort for small children (8 and under). The water in our room (glass bottles) tasted great. None of us were sick drinking the water (house water or from the bottles).

We arrived at Punta Islita for the last two nights of our first Costa Rican vacation, and realized very quickly we should have planned more time at this incredible Autograph resort! We were greeted with cool wet wash cloths to quickly refresh, followed by an offer of welcome drinks. I opted for the delicious hibiscus tea. Our Marriott Gold Bonvoy status was acknowledged & appreciated. The Concierge, Joe, introduced himself and provided an overview of the available activities during our stay. He shared his whatsapp contact info, so our family could discuss the activities of interest, allowing us to easily request for him to coordinate on our behalf. As we arrived early, our room was not ready, so we quickly gathered our swimming gear and the shuttle whisked us down to the Aura beach club. We enjoyed lunch overlooking the beach, followed by drinks at the swim up bar in the pool, before venturing into the ocean. The afternoon was picture perfect with sunny skies, before we were ready to enjoy the plunge pool with our room. The shuttle brought us back up to the reception area, where we grabbed our key, while the bellman gathered our luggage. We had splurged on the Honeymoon Suite (Room 31) and highly recommend this suite for anyone seeking a luxury stay with incredible views. As you enter the room, the eye is quickly drawn to the view of the plunge pool overlooking Punta Islita beach. Absolutely breathtaking views! We enjoyed the plunge pool for a couple hours, taking in the views. Once we decided to get ready for dinner, we were able to enjoy the incredible bathroom – double shower heads in an open tile area, with sliding glass doors providing a panoramic view of the beach and surrounding flora. There are two sinks on the counter with a wide window view into the rain forest. You literally feel as though you are in a tree house, with décor that combines the beautiful outdoor environment with luxury bath amenities. Dinner at the Alma Restaurant was lovely, as we enjoyed the views of the infinity pool. The restaurant staff is attentive, flexible and accommodated our requests for substitutions. Later, as the rain poured, we enjoyed another glass of wine with our dessert. The domed roof of the Alma whisked the water away, and we were able to enjoy the showers, while staying dry. The next morning, we opted for the Monkey Quest tour, and were delighted to find a family of holler monkeys. Manrique and Naron were great guides in locating the monkeys and were happy to share info and tips on what to search for in the trees. After the tour, we brought our 10-year-old son down to Aura beach club for a beginner surfing lesson on the beach. After 5 or 6 tries, he was up on the board! We enjoyed lunch at the Aura beach club (highly recommend the guacamole app and the grilled fish salad). After a couple hours of relaxation poolside, I took the shuttle to the Spa for a massage and facial. Nela alleviated the stress in my back and shoulders, and I drifted off to sleep a couple times. My husband enjoyed a group of macaws having a loud happy hour in an almond tree outside of our door. We enjoyed a quick dip in the infinity pool, which the views are STUNNING. Our last morning was enjoyed with a 6am bird tour (saw macaws, black headed trogon, blue crowned motmot, and long tailed Manakin) with Naron. We then enjoyed breakfast at Alma restaurant (asked for scrambled eggs with a side of fresh fruit, which was delicious!) before heading to another surf lesson for our son. As our shuttle driver was heading down the hill, he stopped and put the van in reverse a few meters back up the hill. Quietly, he suggested that we look out the left windows to see a lovely male holler monkey munching on leaves just a short distance from us. It was an incredible experience to be so close – Pura Vida! So many wonderful memories at Punta Islita for a 2-night stay, and the highlight of our first trip to Costa Rica…. Highly recommend a longer stay at Punta Islita, the honeymoon suite, and encourage folks to sample the variety of activities to experience Pura Vida… Engage the staff as they are lovely and will help with information or tips to make your trip exceed your expectations. We hope to return soon!

The photos looked great, but I was disappointed that it didn't rate up there with other "Autograph" locations I have stayed at. The rooms are dated. The stick being used as a TP holder might have been interesting years ago, but seriously? The fixtures in the shower were loose and were hard to adjust. I know a Pinot Noir is supposed to be a little cooler than some reds, but not colder than a Chardonnay. Staff was very nice though and the beach club is worth a visit. Be ready for a slow bumpy road getting there once the pavement ends.

We just returned from our first vacation in Costa Rica and stay at the Punta Islita and were very happy with our stay. Let's start at the beginning, it is a little of a journey to get to Punta Islita. We landed in LIberia and the shuttle took about 2.45 hours to reach the resort (our trip back to Liberia early on a Saturday was only 2.3 hours). We were in traffic, behind slower vehicles and unlike the US, there are no interstates so you travel at the pace circumstances will allow and enjoy the ride. You do wonder if the destination is worth the ride but it is as you arrive at a mountainside resort covered in a beautiful canopy of trees with the ocean laying in front. You are great by an incredibly friendly staff (Victor was our receptionist) that provides a cool towel and a lovely beverage to initiate you to the relaxing stay ahead. The property is lovely and our two bedroom suite with pool (Flora Blanca) was divine. Throughout our week we enjoyed resort activities ranging from Zip Lining, horseback riding, kayaking, making ceviche, and most beautiful of all, the sunset at the top of the mountain enjoying cocktails and ceviche with new friends. The beach club was wonderful as is the staff. Briner made wonder cocktails with exotic fruits and Margarita was a charming hostess. Randy served us both at the beach club and at the resort up the "mountain" and was most entertaining. Most of our activities were staffed by Naron who was charming, informative and a lot of fun. Joe, one of the guest service coordinators, was always around making sure everything was going well. We had massages on the beach, two of the best massages we had ever had. A wonderful and romantic experience. The food on site is good. Our breakfast, which was not included in our package, was very nice, especially the breakfast burrito. Dinner was okay but our best meals were at two of the local restaurants , Don Ramiro's and Kimbute, just down the street from the resort (shuttle service provided). That said, as my experience has been in Mexico, the Caribbean, Honduras and now in Costa Rica, the food is all very fresh, local, healthy and delicious. So, in looking at Punta Islita, do not worry about the journey there, check on package deals, plan on eating off site a night or two (seperate reviews but amazing food) and enjoy some of the activities they have to offer. You will have a great time, feel relaxed and look forward to coming back.

Punta Islita has a wonderful staff who try very hard to accommodate their guests. The guides for their excursions are good and the excursions are fun. We went looking for sea turtles, went on a kayaking trip, and went looking for monkeys. However, the resort itself needs to be updated. It is pictured as much more luxurious on the website than it actually is and doesn't live up to other Autograph collection properties we have visited. The bathrooms haven't been updated. We had to move rooms because the pool outside our unit broke during the night. In the next room, the safe was broken. The clothesline mechanism started to fall off the wall when I tried to use it, etc.. None of these are major things yet they add up. There is only one dining room for breakfast and dinner. The beach club area is nice but service is slow to get lunch there. For a resort that is so isolated, I would expect more food options, such as grab ad go salads, or a coffee bar with pastries. Instead you have to sit down and be waited on and the food is mediocre. Breakfast is not included in the room pricing. Do not miss two wonderful restaurants in town-Don Ramiro and Cabinas Donde Cambute. You can walk to them. Cabinas Cambute is more casual but excellent. Don Ramiro is a restaurant I would love to have in my hometown. The chef and owner Miguel makes a new menu each night and his dishes are delicious. Get reservations in advance and plan to go there more than once during your stay. It is also expensive to go on excursions and the price would truly add up for a family to do anything other than enjoy the beach during the day. The beach is absolutely gorgeous. If you want to to go on a vacation where you enjoy the pool and beach, this would be a fine choice. If you also like to explore and go on adventures, I would look elsewhere. Costa Rica is an amazing country filled with kind and welcoming people, nature, beaches, etc... Also be aware that Islita is very isolated. You have to drive on very windy, bumpy gravel roads filled with potholes to reach the resort. It limits your ability to visit other beach towns, particularly if you wanted to go out in the evening to a different town. We had a driver take us to the town of Samara because we didn't want to drive there ourselves. Be sure to follow the hotel direction to put in Nicoya first and then Islita or you will spend even more time on roads that hard to navigate to get to Punta Islita.

We were here for our honeymoon and it has been glorious! Breakfasts are amazing—great combo of local and global cuisine. The infinity pool is perfect in the afternoons and we loved the privacy of the junior suite. The Aura Club on the beach is fantastic for spending the day and for sure try a treatment at the Equilibrium Spa just beside it—the couples massage was unbelievable, in a private cabana just beside the ocean.

We stayed in the private 3 bedroom villa Ilan Ilan and it was perfect for our family of 8 (3 generations). It was paradise - private pool, stunning view of the Pacific ocean, beautiful villa, scarlet macaws everywhere. We enjoyed having access to a golf cart to easily get to the beach club and restaurants. The beach is black sand and the waves are great for body surfing or learning to surf. It’s a lovely little town set into the hills, but it’s not easy to get anywhere. The hotel food is great, and we also enjoyed using our kitchen for easy breakfasts and lunches. Grab groceries on your way there or at the tiny market in town.
