This was our first visit to Punta Islita and we cannot recommend this wonderful place enough. The staff was friendly and helpful, food was excellent, and the facilities were incomparable. Our villa was comfortable for our family and our kids loved the plunge pool in our private yard. Viales took care of us zip lining, monkey viewing/hiking, and horseback riding- all on the property. Definitely recommend renting a car to explore the local towns and be prepared for some walking to get to and from the beach. The hotel has a connection to a local lab for return travel COVID testing and arranged for us to make a reservation when we checked in. We met the doctor in the next town over (20 min drive to Estrada) where he has a roadside “pop up” testing setup for hotel guests. He emailed us results same day- very easy. We loved how private this resort is and the seamless connection between it and the local jungle, complete with parrots, monkeys, Macaws, and deer. We will definitely be back.

We had an amazing post-vaccine getaway at this hotel. We had a junior suite with a hot tub that overlooked the Playa Islita bay. The food at both the restaurants (Alma for dinner and Aura on the beach for lunch) was creative and delicious... The best fish tacos at the swim-up bar where Margarita serves drinks with a smile. The staff was incredible. They were very helpful and accommodating. Viales and Donald were knowledgeable and fun guides for our twilight zipliing and kayaking excursions. Marvin, at the first desk, was always there to help us, and made all the arrangements for us to get our Covid test and results in time for our flight home. Also, a shoutout to Pepe, who picked us up and returned us to the Liberia airport.

We have stayed at this property probably 15 times over 5 years and rarely had anything but positive experiences. A new buyer bought the property late 2019 and kept the team mostly intact through the pandemic and shutdowns. The people who work there make this experience worth the cost. New ownership has made some good changes and some changes we are less than excited about, however overall it is still the best property in the region.

We were looking for a more authentic, less touristy beach vacation for part of our Costa Rican vacation. Hotel Punta Islita delivered. We stayed in a junior suite with a whirlpool tub. We were thankful to have our personal hot tub with the afternoon rainstorms (best place to ride out the storm IMO). We did a few activities (Nature Walk, Horseback Riding, Kayaking) with Viales. All worth it and fun in their own way. Mixology down at the beach pool bar was also fun and a refreshing way to end a day down by the beach. Saw a lot of wildlife (macaws, monkeys, foxes, lizards, frogs, snakes, deer, many different types of birds, fruit bats, etc) and took lots of naps in hammocks with macaws flying overhead. Would recommend water shoes for walking on the beach. Views are breathtaking. This place is off the beaten path and a little harder to get to... but totally worth it!

The property is just gorgeous. The COVID testing increased in cost by $300 per person from the day before we arrived to our arrival day. Although we did not book pre-paid, we were told that we wouldn't receive a refund (they charge the full stay when you check in) if we left early due to the COVID test costs. During our stay, our casita flooded 2 inches & we received late & little help resolving. There is no hot water or water pressure. The activities are really fun &, other than the COVID/refund/water issue, the staff is attentive & helpful. We've now waited 6 weeks for our $3000 refund w/ the "accounting is working on it" as the ongoing excuse. The hotel is not of the same qualify of service that Marriott loyalists would expect and seems more like a seedy local resort.
