The Osiligilai Maasai Lodge is a spectacular scenic eco-lodge. Our houses are build as traditional Maasaihouses, with private bathrooms and comfortable beds. Situated in the midst of Mount Kilimanjaro & Mount Meru our guests can enjoy the serene and vastness of the Maasai steppe. We have various Maasai activities and entertainment like, nature walks where you will learn how the Maasai take use of the plants and herbs for both food and medicine. During the nature walk you will see the amazing rock climbing tree, historical maasai cave and maybe even some wild animals depending on seasonal variations. We also have donkey ride with the Maasai for children. In the afternoon you can enjoy an unforgettable sundown over Mt. Kilimanjaro while the Maasai dance their sundown dance, and after sundown we gather around the fireplace for Maasai BBQ and storytelling. Our friendly Maasai staff will tell you all about the Maasaiculture and their way of living.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed at the Osiligilai lodge on the last night of our Tanzania trip, following a 7 day safari and 9 day Northern Circuit Kilimanjaro trek. The stay was arranged by our tour company, Trek2Kili. We had asked for a 1 day ‘Maasai experience’ to fill our final day in the country before our evening flight, and they arranged for us to stay at this lodge as a way to ensure we got a full experience before needing to depart for the airport. We had no idea what to expect, but having just gotten off the trail from Mweka gate, we were really looking forward to hot showers. The drive from Moshi is about 2 hours, primarily because the lodge is well off the paved roads because it is is located in the countryside among numerous Maasai settlements, pretty far from any towns.
When we arrived, we were greeted with a welcome song and fruit juice from a gourd, and then were led to our room by our local guide, Gabriel. The rooms are individual structures built in the style of the native Maasai huts. They are more contemporary than the native dwellings, however, with modern beds/furniture, concrete floors, electricity (solar powered), a western-style toilet, and - best of all - plenty of hot water for the shower. In fact, the power was more reliable and available than even places connected to the local grid. After we cleaned up, Gabriel met with us to show us the grounds (the lodge has a restaurant/bar, and relaxing outdoor swimming pool and lounge), and show us the best place to watch the sunset as Kili poked out of the clouds. Gabriel was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide, who was able to walk us through the intricacies of Maasai culture.
Our stay included meals, and the breakfast/lunch/dinner we had were tasty. My wife is vegetarian and they were able to accommodate that diet. One thing to note is that for (at least) the first night of your stay, you participate in a welcome ceremony with the Maasai staff. This involves a large bonfire with a goat cooked on the fire. The traditional Maasai welcome is sharing the goat with guests, and that’s what happens at the lodge; the staff cook goat pieces on stakes in the fire, and when done, they cut off a piece and share with the group. It was definitely not something we had expected, and quite the unique experience. There was a more conventional restaurant dinner following the goat.
The other cultural experiences that Gabriel introduced to us included a spear throwing demonstration, a visit to one of the local families to see their house/farm, a nature walk to see the local plants, and numerous discussions of the local customs and lifestyle.
Overall, it was both a relaxing way to unwind from our trek and an interesting, informative visit with a local tribe with a very different lifestyle. The lodge facilities were great, even so far from urban areas, and the people were welcoming and friendly. We learned a lot about local traditions while still having enough time to sit quietly on the porch of our room and take in the stunning views of the savannah stretching out to Kilimanjaro before catching our flight.

Osiligilai Maasai Lodge is a special place, William and his staff of authentic tribal Maasais drawn from the neighboring homesteads were very warm and friendly in their welcome. My friends and I loved the traditional cultural vibe mix with necessary modernity’s of showers, flush toilets, swimming pool and excellent service at the lodge. The rooms all face Kilimanjaro and have amazing sunrise views. The food served is a nice mix of local delicacies and conventional foods. We loved the goat soup and nyama choma!
I must go back to Osiligilai for a longer stay.

As stated by others, our stay at Osiligilai Masaai Lodge was the best part of our trip. This lodge has really sweet traditional houses with lovely Masaai decoration (you could call this a boutique hotel or lodge), the luxury of a flushing toilet, sink and hot shower from the solar bioler, and a spectacular view. It's great how they use solar power for their energy, local materials for their buildings, and support the local community from the profit, such as a school. The food was delicious, the stories and meat roasting at the fire was delightful and the hike down into the valley up to the zebras and wildebeasts was one of the most wonderful experiences this holiday. Where else can you walk towards the wildlife with a Masaai warrior as guide, and no other tourists around? A really authentic experience.

Wow, nothing short of amazing! We had such a wonderful time at the Osiligilai Maasai Lodge, what an authentic and special place. We stayed two nights at the lodge and boy did we get the royal treatment! From the time we arrived we were greeted with the warmest welcome. The entire team at the lodge greeted us with traditional songs and dance, adorned us with beautifully beaded neck pieces and warm hugs. I was unsure of what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised at the beautifully decorated traditional Inkajijik (houses) where we stayed. I loved how well they were decorated and stocked with all needed items. One of my favorite things was the shower, and how the bathroom was laid out. The food, the hospitality, the lion hurt (simulated :) ) the fire pit and let me not forget the beautiful hill top dance as we took in the breathtaking sunset. Osiligilai Maasai Lodge is special for so many reason, one of the reason's I loved it there even more was that it is owned and operated by true Maasai, they provide you with a peek into their everyday life, all while you enjoy all of the amenities of a hotel. Your every needed is anticipated and attended to. You won't go wrong when you stay here, you won't want to leave. We truly enjoyed ourselves and plan to go back soon.

Masai lodge
I booked a 6 days Safari with Kwesa Tours and 6 days Kilimanjaro climb. Because of change of plans I had to do one day Masai before Kilimanjaro, and I fell in love with Masai lodge immediately. They have a nice authentic place with a lovely team of workers who is welcoming you as family. Gabriel was my primary host and he is really informed and good telling history about the Masai. The view to Kilimanjaro and Meru is outstanding, and the chef is super talented as I come as vegetarian. The rooms are toooo cute to relax and sleep. After climbing Kilimanjaro I had to come back for relaxation to more nights because I just needed to spend more time there and know more history. They also have nice local projects with the kids in the area educating them, you meet the local Masai family and see houses, free safari, beauty sunset and best view from the room. Big recommended from Denmark
Best regards Sofie

Osiligilai Maasai Lodge is an extremely welcoming place and everyone should visit for an authentic experience of Maasai culture. We met William the manager at Osiligilai and he has become our close friend in Tanzania. A particular highlight of the lodge is spending time with members of the Maasai community that have been coopted as staff and part owners; very friendly, humble people and good performers of local songs and dance. The views of Kilimanjaro and beautiful landscape are magical. The food was great, especially the roast meat prepared by Maasai Morans in their traditional way.
It was great staying here knowing that Osiligilai supports the local community in many ways.

We had an excellent stay at this very authentic and beautiful Maasai lodge. The staff were professional and friendly, the food was excellent, and the accommodations were very comfortable with great attention to detail and stunning views. This lodge offers a unique opportunity to learn about the Maasai culture through optional events that are included in the price. Special thanks to our guide Gabriel, whose personal attention and fascinating information shared about the Maasai culture made our stay unforgettable. Top marks for this lodge!

The eco lodge is locate between Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru . Its very unique project run by William and people from this community. My friends and I spend only one day ( wish we can stay longer) at the lodge but we had blast. The atmosphere was amazing. Warm welcome, lot's of attractions, delicious meals , hand made jewelry and the sunset... We learned about Massai culture, tried our Tiger hunting opportunities, danced traditional osingolio ,relaxed at the pool and made friends for life. What else can you ask for. That was the most unforgettable experience.

The Osiligilai Massai Lodge is a stunning eco-friendly place where you can relax and also enjoy with the amazing views of Kilimanjaro and Meru mountains.
We were a group of 16 people and we experienced the real and pure culture from Maasai people; William and Josephine made us feel at home.
Food was delicious and the chicken in sauce was yummy.
The huts were very spacious and comfortable and they used solar power to heat the water.
Thank you very much for your welcome reception, you made us feel at home.
Good good luck with your Educational Project!!!
