We had a two day getaway at the Kickapoo Valley Ranch and it was, in a word, wonderful! Cowboy Joe was wonderful to work with, easy to get a hold of, and tremendously reassuring in these uncertain times. Everything about our stay was lovely but some of our favorite highlights were: the cookies, oh the cookies, I wanted one for every meal and snack - I think Cowboy Dave gets the credit for those. The bedding, crisp, clean, and white, it was easy to lay down and relax knowing that the bedding was clean, safe, and comfy. And the details, from everything being meticulously clean to the individual packages of delicious local coffee beans, Cowboy Joe thought of everything!

We have traveled in state several times since Covid, and We were truly impressed by the cleanliness and safety practices at the ranch. Much better than what we have experienced elsewhere. I think this is the cleanest place we have ever stayed.
We stayed in Slick’s Joint. It had everything we could have wanted or needed. The views from the porch were absolutely beautiful. We loved sitting in the rocking chairs at night looking at the stars and in the morning sipping our coffee and tea. The fall colors were stunning.
The ranch is so quiet and relaxing. It was just the getaway we needed. We did some hiking at Wildcat Mountain State Park and visited a few wineries.
Cowboy Joe was so nice and helpful. He gave us great recommendations and tips about the area. Cowboy Dave’s cookies were delicious. We also ordered a carrot ginger cashew cake, which was ready when we arrived and also delicious.
We loved seeing the llamas, horses, and kitties on the ranch. The wi-fi worked great. No TV service, but there is a HUGE selection of DVDs you can borrow.
Everything was perfect and we can’t wait to return.

When COVID gives you lemons, make lemonade! I'll be honest, I don't think I would've found a place like this without the current travel risks and need to "get away from it all." This place was a sanctuary and it was so hard to leave! The cabins are very well-maintained and you can tell the owners put a lot of love and hard work into making sure each guest is comfortable.

Want to take some amazing nature shots from the comfort of your back porch? Want to reconnect with your artistic side? Have that book you've been meaning to get to but couldn't find the time? Well this place is PERFECT for all that and more!

My fiance and I will definitely be back for a winter visit. Oh and the cookies are AMAZING!!

We decided on a 2-day get away...not from the snow and cold, we weren't going that far, but away from our 4 walls to someone else's 4 walls. We made a wonderful choice at the Kickapoo Valley Ranch. We arrived late afternoon and our "cabin" was ready for us. To welcome us to our "get away" were fresh cookies baked by Cowboy David and they were delicious...the cabin was clean and sanitized. There were coffee beans to ground and we, in our cabin, had a full kitchen. Our cabin faced the east looking into the Kickapoo Valley forest preserve. Snow still covered the ground but the drive to the cabins had been cleared and the short drive to the cabin was safe. Since we were only staying 2 days we had packed lightly, not planning on hiking or looking for things to do. Now for the best part. There is no TV reception or cell phone reception. We knew this prior and had taken "The Crown" 3 seasons to binge watch while we were there. The facility doesn't offer anything to the guests other than peace within the woods. This is not an inconvenience, it is a choice to unplug from our conveniences for awhile. I will say this is not a "primitive" place because there is "kick-ass" wi-fi available so there is a possible connection for anyone interested. I happily and gladly give Kickapoo Valley Ranch the highest rating possible.

The cabins at Kickapoo Valley Ranch are noticeably well constructed and maintained. The moment we walked inside, it looked spotless, sturdy and cozy. The feeling of cleanliness never went away during our whole stay - as I walked barefoot, the floor never felt dusty or sticky! Each of the three table lamps in the cabin was unique (one had canoes!), while maintaining a western feel. The bed was simply luxurious.

We came prepared with enough groceries to cook every meal for three days, and we succeeded in doing so because the cute kitchenette was very well stocked.

We relished the vast green view, which included some deer in the distance. We also enjoyed the sounds of nature and the absence of traffic noise. Plus, being so close to the reserve, we hiked one day and canoed the next.

Best of all, Cowboys Joe and David took the time to chat with us and graciously answered questions we had about their lives on the ranch. They really are gems in the area.

I don't think I have ever stayed at a cabin that was so clean and so impeccably thoughtful. Individual servings of coffee or toiletries or napkins to accommodate the pandemic, perfectly clean floors so I always felt comfortable being barefoot, quality blankets and furniture that felt like they wrapped you in a warm embrace. I came here for a solo getaway and my only complaint was that I couldn't stay longer. It is exactly as described but better. I think it's perfect for a solo getaway, couples getaway, or with a small group of friends. It isn't the place to party or for a family reunion. It is the place to have a sanctuary to yourself. Can't wait to come back.

I am still in awe about KVR. Everything was perfect from the minute we met Cowboy Joe walking to check in until we had to leave.

First off, this is a cabin. Very well built, spacious and just enough modern touches to offer the basic while keeping it as rustic as possible.

The cabins are well hidden, far off the road. The views are breath taking. In 2 days I think we heard 2 maybe 3 cars.

This is a place you come to disconnect from the world. (Yes they have internet if you must), Sitting on the porch with the breeze and sounds of nature while reading a good book is what this place is all about.

During the day we drove around the area, which is well populated with Amish. There are many shops, bakeries, and bulk stores in the area. Since you are in Wisconsin, there are several cheese shops & factories in the area.

I HIGHLY recommend pre-ordering a cake from the bakery. By far one of the best cakes I have had. The frosting was a little too much for me, but the cake was still amazing!

We felt like we were a million miles from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Even though it was just a short 2 hour drive back to reality.

This place is great for people who want the simple things in life. Peace, quiet, serenity, nature, and a simple life.

There are no restaurants on site, there is no daily housekeeping, there is no ice machine (sorry Joe I had to add that). You bring and cook your own food (they have a great electric grill on the porch), clean up your own mess, and bring a bag of ice if a normal ice cube tray isn’t good enough for you.

KVR has done everything right. This is going to be our new go to place to get away.

In cabin living this place is 5 stars!!!!!!!!!

The best experience ever!!! In a time where are lives have been so turned around, we found peace and tranquillity at Kickapoo Valley Ranch. The setting is beautiful and waking up to the horses each morning, brought so much joy. We travel often and rarely say in our room. It was opposite for us this time. We didn’t want to leave the cabin and when we did, we couldn’t wait to get back.

In this current state of a pandemic, traveling was a concern. I am a crazy germ person and now even more. I can only tell you, that I have never felt so comfortable. They have implemented the best cleaning procedures. We felt completely safe and had price of mind while enjoying our stay. There’s wasn’t a speck of dust anywhere and you could smell the cleanliness of the cabin.

Cowboy Joe was amazing to work with. Our treats from Cowboy Dave were scrumptious. We can’t wait to book our next trip to this hidden gem. See you in the fall.

This was yet another wonderful visit to the KV Ranch. The cabins are spotless and the setting is serene. We returned for our anniversary and we look forward to spending more here in the future. Cowboy Joe goes out of his way to ensure your stay is perfect. We enjoyed relaxing by our own private fire under the starry country sky. Traveling during COVID can be challenging, but it is clear that at the KV Ranch, all precautions are taken, and our cabin was extra clean and sanitized. We took a dozen of Cowboy David's cookies home, and as usual, they are superbly delicious! Thank you for a great stay.

We have been yearly visitors here for a decade, so of course we have always appreciated the exceptional courtesy and care given to the comfort of our visits here. Every detail in the cabins is given exceptional care. Nothing is ever missed. We have stayed in most cabins and each is equal in the high level of accommodation and furnishings. The ease in booking, with fast responsive communication is a huge plus. The natural beauty of the area in any season is what keeps us returning to discover more. The Amish community with picture perfect farms and kind humble people is heartwarming. The occasional sound of trotting horse drawn carriages on the nearby roads adds tranquility to our evenings. The county is also peppered with round barns that simply represent the historical nature of this area. Yet, the cabin will be so comfy that we have spent some days going nowhere but staying in, enjoying the tranquility of the room, the porch, rocking chairs, and view.
The generous cookies at arrival are yummy!
Regarding the cleanliness of our cabins - I have a serious allergy to dust mites. They reside and multiply in carpets, beds, pillows, blankets, draperies, and dusty surfaces. I don’t need inhalers, here, ever! The floors and surfaces are clean, the bedding is high quality and sparkling. The extra blankets in storage are encapsulated in plastic, the window blinds are always dust free. Nothing is missed,,,Thank you, Joe and David!
Lastly, the beds have been beyond comfortable and cushy. We highly recommend the accommodations, tranquil location, and the hard working prkprietors here with high regards and appreciation.

no, the closest market is in hillsboro and lafarge. we eat out the whole time we are there because we travel on a chopper with a backpack. Bringing food would be great if possible! (except for dessert because Daves cookies and other things are awesome!!!!!)
